What do the redshirts have to offer ?

They both have the potential to be solid contributors in time
But, just like with Owens, don't expect too much too soon
They each have 1 year of experience at the D-1 level and didn't play a whole lot
It will take time for them to assimilate into our system
Having said that, they both came from great programs and were highly recruited
In time, I think they will be solid additions and integral members of our rotation

Clark played two years at msu and I feel will be ready to showcase more offensive game than under Izzo. (3's..lots)

I get your point, but Clark played two years at MSU. However, not starter's minutes as noted,

It is always a bit of a guess but from what I have seen of Clark I think he will be a great addition for this team. As a Freshman he was in the rotation on a Michigan State team that made the final four. As a rule Izzo players are generally disciplined, play excellent defense, rebound like crazy and improve greatly over a four year period. Clark can shoot it from three and rebounds very well. Additionally he is physically stronger than most of our current players. Although it was just a glimpse in an exhibition game he looked absolutely great during the Red White scrimmage. I think if it were not for injuries disrupting his development we would have never gotten him here.

As for Simon. He was very highly ranked out of High School (37th in the ESPN top 100 in the class of 2015). He came to Arizona as a Freshman and they were so guard heavy that he did not get that much playing time. He is advertised as a point guard with very good size, who is good in the open court, a very good passer and can defend well.

I think we will be greatly improved with these two players next year.

That said the biggest void we need to fill is muscle, size, rebounding and scoring on the interior. If we can find that (maybe in a fifth year transfer) then I think we can do some real damage in the 2017/2018 season.

You're right, Mase and Paultz, mea culpa
An old age brain fart after tonight's exciting win
I went to the "Tip Off" event in November when both Simon and Clark participated
I was impressed with Clark - he looked good in the scrimmage
I know that doesn't mean much but he looked very athletic and fluid on both ends
I am hopeful that he will help shore things up inside (rebounding & defense) next year
I also think that he has the skills to contribute offensively as well
I just hope that people don't expect too much too soon

Owens has been better than I expected. I really think the year helped him as it did Lovett and both they and the staff deserve credit for that.

We'll be a lot more mature team next season. I expect some rebounds from both and a secondary contribution in the size department in the front/back court but neither meets our primary need of a banger with some hands.

Owens has been much better than I expected and improves every game
I just hope that we can keep the nucleus of this team together next season
I want to see Simon and Clark add to, not replace, the good pieces that we have assembled

I think people are sleeping on Simon, which is fine I guess. But he will surprise people imo. Hes got great size for a guard and will contribute defensively immediately and be an additional ball handler.
The question will be whether he can shoot well enough to be a major factor.
I think he will. I think he becomes a swing man for us and a combination of Ellison and Rysheed Jordan. Better slasher than jump shooter but good size and athleticism.

Highest rated recruit of the Mullin era so we hope you are right but I think some of us have learned the lesson of talking up recruits and giving him a chance to make his own noise.

I agree with you about Simon
I think he will be a good contributor as well
People may be more focused on Clark because we need more help in the front court
Right now, the back court is the strength of our team
Simon will add to the depth and will be a rotational guy IMO

Marvin Clark offers a couple of good things
1) A big man who can shoot the three
2) He gives you rebounding. I'm confident he would lead the team in rebounds if he was playing right now.
3) Comes from a great program ( MSU)

Justin Simon
1) A big body point guard ( could be a great insurance policy if Lovett leaves)
2) They say he's a great passer.

Very fair Paul.

I remember well being burned by numerous Mets prospects the organization over hyped ... Pulsipher, Wilson, Isringhausen, Milledge, F Mart, etc. So I took that wait and see approach with the young pitchers and lost and behold they turned out to be the real deal (so far).

I believe Ponds is ranked as the highest recruit in the Mullin era.

Edit: Yeah, Ponds is 36 and Simon is 37.

How about Roasrio and Szapucki :)

In a word hope. Unlike some here who are impatient or expect an instant turnaround, these guys are another step in the rebuilding process. I get as frustrated as anybody here, I didn't/couldn't/wouldn't watch the sh game from about the 16 minute mark of the first half, but by Monday I had moved on. It's a process and you're either in it for the long haul or not.

Clark is well built and put up decent numbers as a senior against mostly juco teams -- 20 and 9. I think Paultz reported via a practice observer that Simon is super athletic.

Hopefully both just needed a change of scenery and can give us something.
