What a Mess

Left with 12 minures to go. Saw a team that did not come to play. A coach who came who did not come to coach.

No hustle, no spirit and AN I DO NOT CARE ATTITUDE, that is our team.

Foul shooting is really shot put practice and Obekpa at this point in time you know to keep his hands up so he can at least pretend to defend the other center.

There has to be problems in the locker room we can't be this bad.

Garrett was in spring traning today not MSG. Branch should have more surgery maybe he will see where his passes are going.

Harrison did not go to the hoop against Rutgers agains a big and slower guy so today he decides to drive with whole GT teams in the lane.

Give me a break.

I wll eat my season tickets.

enough is enough

I was at the game and appalled by the poor performance. On paper, this should be a team that competes every night with Harrison and Sampson as potential NBA players, Chris OBepka monster inside presence, an actual point guard with Branch who is still learning but has flashes of brilliance, and an adequate supporting cast. I don't claim that this team is Louisville but we are underachieving. I put this on Steve Lavin for now preparing his team adequately. The foul-shooting is embarrassing. It's essentially a turnover if there is a foul and the shot is missed. He needs to make some serious changes to the system

Sorry Sampson is a one trick pony!

Sampson has potential to be an NBA player, but he needs another season or two of collegiate hoops. Harrison isn't an NBA player.

With Obepka shooting 25% from the line we can expect him to get fouled everytime he shoots resulting in the equivalent of a turnover. If gets 5 blocks a game and goes to the line 6 times, he's in effect a non-entity. (yea, I know he intimidates).

He needs a shooting coach!

. Things looked so good in 2010 we were winning w Norms players ,getting great recruits, etc. We were high on Lavin. Now we are again a bottom feeding BE team, that isnt improving. Frustating.

NBA 1950 Fake the outside shot and drive to the basket. Problem you need to be able to make the outside shot.

These guys are a joke. Glad I slept late and didn`t watch this mess. Expect another blowout loss on Tuesday vs. ND.
Again anything under 17 wins this year is a failure. Where`s the improvement from last year???

Our only chance next year to be good is if Harrison and Sampson stays and Lawrence comes aboard.
Just need Obekpa for rebounds and blocked shots anything extra would be butters, Sampson and Lawrence at the 2 forward positions with Harrison scoring from the outside. Branch and/or Jordan would be getting 5/6 assists a game or you`d think so.
But then again if those things don`t happen then we`ll suck again next year.

Block shots dont necessarily result in getting the ball, He is altering some shots and you could even see that today. But mostly when he blocks a shot, it goes out of bounds or into the hands of the opposition.

Dunlap had a sub .500 record last year, the only year he coached.
That team lost Harkless, this team added Obekpa and Sampson.
I just don't see why everyone if so diappointed in our play.
BTW, G'Town blew us out twice last year.

Team littered with Top 100 kids.
Plus the PR machine = high expectatations.

*Gtown games last year were tight and wheels came off. FT induced 'blowouts'

on here.

I want to be very fair in this breakdown of Lavin's recruiting.

Year 1: Lavin had an entire roster to fill, and had to recruit for a program completely in the dumper. He was literally starting with virtually no program - a ten year record at the bottom of the Big East, and was going after guys that other coaches had a 2 or three year jump on. Hauling in Harkness and Harrison as the prizes, Lindsay (who tanked here), Garrett, Greene etc was a pretty nice start, along with Team Lavin turning NRs losing team into an NCAA tourney squad. All in all an A plus job or rebuilding

Year 2: Slowed by cancer, he comes up with Sampson, Branch, Obepka Balamou, Bourgault, Can't overstate how much the loss of harkness hurts. Sampson, Branch, Obepka are nice addditions, and with Harkness here, and Sampson as a third option (with offense from Greene and Branch) we could have beena tourney team.

Year 3: So far we haven't struck gold for next season, and that is a concern.

When you look at it this way it doesn't look horrible at all. Had Roberts left a squad with 3-4 underclassmen of Bif East ability (at the talent level of the starters that was on LAvin's 1st team) we'd be talking entirely differently today. So yea, as much as I'd hate to admit it, we are still in the hole that Norm left us in, and it will likely be felt until at least next year, and possibly won't be gone until the following year.

lol you`re kidding me right? Why I`m disappointed??? ok well where`s the improvement from last year? No depth, all first year players and got 13 wins, this year with depth and some 2nd year player do you actually see more then 13 wins, seriously? It`s not like I was expecting a miracle and for them to go something like 23-7. Yeah ok in the beginning of the year I was hoping for 20-10 but I seen that was a mistake so then I said 17 wins but unless somehow someway they improve a whole lot in February then 17 win isn`t happening.

So what do you want Tom? Give Lavin another pass this year after giving him a pass his first 2 years? Why not make him have some accountability?

Tell me you are inebriated at a bar on 7th Ave. None of what you said justifies the current play of our team...none!
Last year, Dunlap had to manage a team of 5 freshmen and forget the record....they came better prepared than our current group of 12. Game management was much better also. Roberts excuses after hauling in 7 top 100 players??
LMAO!
FYI........Georgetown had 5 freshmen and 5 sophs on their team today.

What exactly did you give lavin a pass for in his first year?

#stjbb's Lavin on recruiting: “If we don’t sign anybody, that’s fine. ... Only going to bring in somebody if they fill a need."

Why would I start my post-game analysis with a Lavin Tweet?
Because if this coach would be "fine" if we did not sign anybody, given we have needs at (a) Center , (b) point guard, (c) shooting guard, (d) power forward, and a bench that can actually contribute points, well,  I would say our coach may be settling for bottom-feeder status indefinitely.
He is not going anywhere this year but if next season we cannot crack a top 25 ranking, he will be gone. You just do not spend what we do on a Giorgio Armani staff and accept .500 records.  Especially if you are actually recruiting at least two top 75 players every year.

So what is the problem? Other than not recruiting one pure shooter who also can do other things like pass and defend, our talent evaluation staff is focusing on players who are merely athletic and one-dimensional.
Chris Obekpa can block shots.....period!
Harrison can be a streak shooter...period!
Jakarr Sampson can run and dunk.....period!
Branch can handle well and has an offensive game and is the best passer on the team........but when Harrison and Sampson leave their offense in the locker room, Branch has no other player to give the ball to.....today, he took the ball to hoop and a few jumpers himself....out of necessity....not by design.

Design? That comes with game preparation.  I find hard to think we have a sound game plan that the players understand prior to games.  I have yet to see them come out with fire yet.....even against an NJIT.  We can make a case for the absence of Mike Dunlap but that would make the current coaches look inept and overpaid.  Yet, I now question the role of coach Keady and the recruiting and scouting ability of one of our assistant coaches.  I expect that coach to be at another school next season.  I also expect at least 3 of these players to be at other schools next season.

Which brings me back to Lavin's puzzling Tweet above.  Needs?  He has them at every position.  Prospects? He has few!  So, what gives?
Lavin may have decided to dance with the one that he brought to dance....regardless of outcome and needs.  If that is the case, he may have given up already. I hate to sound like a cruel non-caring guy, but there are at least 3 players that need to be released from their scholarships and one may leave on his own.
That means we should have been recruiting (hard) at least 3 players with serious offensive skills.  Except for Harrison, who is a one-dimensional streak  shooter, our offensive abilities may be as low as our Big East ranking.
Needs? You cannot be serious coach????

Finally, the game.....there is nothing positive to say about any facet of today's game.......NONE!
So, rather than beat up a few teenagers who came poorly prepared and got their collective asses kicked, I will give them a pass this game and expect to see a different team against ND.  No, not skill-wise, but in mental preparedness and a coaching staff with a smarter game plan than..."just give the ball to Harrison".

You see, I did not mimic FUN's prose style this time.  Today was no fun for all the fans that trekked to the Garden at an ungodly hour and for our one coaching treasure who not only had to suffer surgery but had to suffer watching such poorly prepared players at 88 years of age.

Lets be fair tho 72. Gtown doesn't roll many players. They run 2 Jr's in starting lineup. 4 Sophs and 1 Frosh.
