Welcome Zach Brown

He's a lefty. Same with Lovett and Ponds, I believe. Who else? Three lefties on the floor at one time is pretty unusual. Just on that front could give opposing team fits.

and another Lefty sitting on the scorer's table!

Lefties are incredibly difficult to guard. I played at a pretty decent level of competition all around the area for a long time and even for guys I had played form the time I was 12, a head fake right before you take off left is a lot more effective than a righty doing the opposite. Defenders just are not programmed to guard the 20% of players who are lefty since we do everything backwards and many of them in an unorthodox way. #Mullin #Zendon #Berry

I trust the staff on this one. Having said that, based on all that has gone on with this kid, and the fact that a lot can happen in a year, I put the chances at no more than 50/50 that the kid ever suits up for us. Regardless I still think the kid deserves another chance and is well worth the risk. Hoping for the best, but not getting my hopes to high.

I'm guessing he won't be majoring in our criminal justice program.

On
The contrary OLV
He might be well suited for it - unfortunately - bringing a unique perspective etc.
We all (at least most in this site) wish him the best as a person AND as a player!

We could look at it as a no lose proposition
At worst it does not run its course
Hopefully he helps himself as a person dealing with a HEAVY past
And we benefit by his play

I am not sure how many of us could have endured what he has..,

All the best young Zachary Brown!

Very little downside with a huge possible upside. We have 12 good to very good players for 2017-2018. Zach would be our 13th player on the roster and the only freshman. We will have centres in junior Sima and 4th year junior Owens. If Brown misbehaves he will be gone and we will still be set at the 5 with experienced players. If he gets his act together , and the staff becomes the parent to Zach that the prior staff should have been to Rysheed, his upside is huge and the staff will be praised for helping this kid with a checkered past.
As you are all aware I was very high on French, but he would have had little pt over the next two seasons and would have really only been a contributor as a junior. This kid will contribute from day 1 and will be a story the whole ball worlds follows.
Best of luck to both staff and Zach.

Exactly why I'm fine with this move.

North, this stuff is not linear. X amount of effort does not always yield Y amount of outcome. We cannot know the effort that was made just as we cannot know whether there were actions that backfired or external forces that superceded the impact of good intentions.

The next couple teams will be very stacked and without a high risk of playing leaving for the NBA after a year or two. Really like our future.

Thinking that one of the main reasons that the school signed off on this is because Zach has a year + to prove that he is on the right track before actually suiting up. There will be close to zero tolerance between now and then. If the kid messes up, the school has an out. If he doesn't, we've got ourselves a potential immediate impact player. Once again, I don't see the downside to this at all.

If all our scholarship players return after the 16-17 season, won't we have a full complement of thirteen?

I would not worry about that, some kids will move on. That's nature of the game today.
