Welcome Zach Brown

Wow, incredible piece in the Post, thanks for sharing the link. Second chances are part of life, for everybody. If Chris and the staff are confident, I trust they are taking a very wise gamble.

CM had a second chance too so I'm sure he can recognize a man who has chosen the straight and narrow.

Can anyone help me out with our scholarship situation? I feel like I should put together a spread sheet.

Good Luck Zach. I look forward to watching you dominate the big east for years to come.

Currently we have no ships available for 17 but some combination of Amar, Williams, and/or an unhappy guard over playing time should open up ships.

Shalom Zach,

We wish you all the very best in your future endeavours and you have made a decision to go with a staff that will be there for you every step of the way.
Welcome aboard. We are thrilled to have you.

To those relatively new to the board I have been following the team intently for 35 seasons but this is the first time ever that we have had three (3) very good recruiting classes in a row.
This staff is on to something very big.
By the way Barry who ?

what to me is most encouraging with this now over Lavin is several months ago we had completely struck out with the 2017 class and it was late in the recruiting cycle. Things really didnt look good. BUT playing the transfer game is much better than taking a total reach of a player for 4 years and by locking the 2 transfers down it gives us the opportunity to take a chance on a kid like Brown and all the sudden we go from nothing in 2017 several months ago to a potentially very good class

Let's see some improvement on the court and hopefully really propel us down the road

All aboard the Zach Brown Band (wagon). Sorry, could not resist. Let's hope the grades and support system are there to help him become an asset to the program.

Matt came to us from a school that turned itself into one of the most exciting programs in the country by handing out second chances.

And our coach would never have made the Hall of Fame without a second chance.

Anyone who is not a fan of second chances should find a new team to root for, because this won't be the last time this happens under the current staff.

I am not adverse to second chances, but this kid has already had his. The staff has much more information than I, and I trust they have done their diligence. That said, I am not in favor of this move.

While it seems he will be cleared of the armed robbery charge, he is still charged with credit card fraud and "robbery by sudden snatching". It takes a certain kind of person to snatch someone's personal belongings. Now, I wouldn't want anyone to judge me by decisions I made when I was 17 years old. But, Zach Brown is still very immature and we are taking quite a risk here.

I would have a short leash on this kid. After all, his next incident will be his fourth. I hope Zach proves me wrong.

You bring up very fair points. I'll give 2nd chances to any kid with a lot of talent unless they joined ISIS but I'm not going to fault anyone who feels the way you do

I would rather recruit character not characters
Having said that, I trust our staff and wish Zach well and welcome him to St John's

He's a lefty. Same with Lovett and Ponds, I believe. Who else? Three lefties on the floor at one time is pretty unusual. Just on that front could give opposing team fits.

I don't want to turn this into a Lavin bash, but unlike the last regime that specialized in last-second recruiting, we have a whole year to see if this turns into a mistake. And if it does turn into a mistake, we still have a lot of talent anyway.

Yakwe is lefty too....

I watched his documentary and there were a few disconcerting things. His adopted father for one, who is supposed to be a positive figure in his life was rambling on and on about the NBA and Sprite and Nike and whatever other sponsorships he couldn't wait for ZB to get. Seemed like a very well off guy not sure why he's pandering. The boy has had plenty of obstacles and has plenty more ahead. Meanwhile this adopted father is talking about endorsement deals. Should be focused on the kid developing as a student, person and athlete. Hoping we get him on campus ASAP so he can get someone like CM and the players to serve as an example.

I really wanted French, but even a competent 7 footer gives you an advantage in most D1 games. This kid looks like he could be much more than that. From looking at just the tape he seems wayyy ahead of Moses Brown. Hopefully he gets his life in order and has a great senior year prior to joining our seemingly loaded team.

Lovett
Ponds
Clark
Yakwe
Brown

How many times has a team started 5 lefties before?
