They have to deliver, but this is a solid, well respected staff. Now let’s compete in tough BE this season, nail some 2020 high quality players, set the tone for 2021 harvest and get the program on a positive track. No lock to achieve that, but I like the foundation.

Well said, Paultz.
We might have to 'weather the storm' a bit next season up against a stronger Big East and a tougher OOC schedule, but this Staff should reap fruit down the road.
All in, it's a good time to be a Johnny Fan.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we have 4 recruiters on staff? CMA and his 3 ACs? Wow.

So Mike Anderson's staff: TJ Cleveland, Van Macon and Steve DeMeo. Tons of experience on this staff. #sjubb

As someone who was often critical of non-traditional, inexperienced, and sub-optimal nature of last two staffs, appreciate the return to basics and compiling a staff whose core professional competency appears to be coaching college basketball. As others have noted, this isn't as complicated as SJU basketball has made it seem for the better part of 2+ decades.

Any chance DeMeo could get his JUCO studs from last year to reconsider their D1 commitments and come aboard? Had #1 kid in country in combo guard Duarte commit to Oregon and #17 point guard Hamlet commit to N.Texas. #53 Jackson combo guard to E.Carolina, #55 6'10 PF Vila to UTEP. #73 Henry SF to Jax State.

I've got no clue how that works, but Duarte 'signed' I 'think' last November and Hamlet, a great Juco PG, 'signed' in April I think with NT.
Duarte's gotta be 'gone', but if Javion Hamlet or Villa, for example, 'decommited' would they have to sit out??

Are we fortunate, or what?
Is there reasonable cause for optimism?
Wow.
The past two plus sullied decades are fading into the rear view mirror.
Mike Anderson ( yep he’s not perfect and yep there are no guarantees ) and his staff have a history of success on the court and along the recruiting trail. Every indication and reason for hope that this style will continue.
Great time to be a fan and heal our wounds.
:)

Mike Anderson’s staff is now complete, and it is heavy on experience. The new St. John’s coach made his last assistant coach hire by bringing aboard Steve DeMeo on Thursday, sources told The Post.

DeMeo, a Queens native who attended Cardozo High school, has spent the last six years coaching JUCO power Northwest Florida State and compiling a 170-27 record. Before that, he worked as an assistant coach at Hofstra, Providence and Iona. A Buffalo alum, DeMeo has been an assistant on four NCAA Tournament teams and won a junior college national championship in 2015, along with three Elite Eight appearances. He was also named the JUCO National Coach of the Year in 2016.

He joins another Queens native, Van Macon, and T.J. Cleveland as Anderson’s three assistant coaches. Cleveland, Anderson’s nephew, has coached with him at UAB, Missouri and Arkansas while Macon has plenty of experience as well, having coached at Hofstra, Rutgers and St. Louis.

Macon and DeMeo give Anderson two assistant coaches with local recruiting ties, which he has said was a priority in filling out his staff. Macon was the lead recruiter on three-star wing Julian Champagnie, a Brooklyn native who verbally committed to St. John’s on Wednesday.

How refreshing it is to feel that the leadership is qualified and committed.

Will be excited to the product that is on the floor this year and beyond

I bet I echo the sentiments of many -
Great news. Wonderful developments.
Why since our staff or lack there of was a major, chronic annoying concern, I could not have imagined a better outcome from the
“ Bermuda Triangle “ aka St. Johns basketball (disappearing under mysterious circumstances ) of a mere month ago.
AND it’s only
May 2019.
Imagine what Mike Anderson can accomplish in another May or two.

Waiting ever so anxiously to hear “Goodies” response to MA’s completed staff.

Could not possibly be happier with the staff CMA has put together!! It is nice to have multiple recruiters now and to start out already landing a local kid in Champagnie bodes very well for our future. I really think we are about to start operating like a real program again!!

With the current AD and the new coaching staff if the various boards will stick to financial and educational matters and leave the basketball matters to the above SJU appears to be in great shape.

Ah c’mon, Enright.
Great sentiment man, but we’re St. John’s hoops fanatics.
Full of spleen and vinegar, what d’ya expect?
Lol.
But you nailed it, I do not recall when we had as solid and experienced a Staff, including the HC, as we do now.
Looking forward to witnessing and cheering how they build their legacy.
To repeat myself and others, this is looking like a great time to be a Johnny Fan.

I really want to get excited, with the staff and everything, but after the last 2 staffs, I just can't.
I'll wait it out before that happens.

Jusf sick of being disappointed.

I can't wait for the summer recruiting season to start to read the increased number of top 100 ranked recruits Coach Mike Anderson and his hard working staff are involved with.

There is no substitution for hard work on the recruiting trail and by every indication Coach Anderson and his staff are hard workers.
