Welcome Bryce Hopkins

Any idea how he is on the defensive end?
I’d say he’s an 8 maybe 9 out of 10 in terms of strength, so he will do better on 5’s and 4’s than Scott or Luis.

Not as quick as either, so guards will be an issue I’d imagine. Balance and coordination are top notch so he won’t be a liability on anyone, but he’s not as fluid as Scott.

After watching some video the last two days, the thing that stood out is he has really long arms.

Statistically the thing that stands out is averaging 6.8 defensive rebounds two years ago playing with two monsters in Croswell and Carter. That’s more than 2.5x Aaron Scott gave us.

Conditioning will likely be an issue early.

Take that fwiw.

I remember watching this kid in his Freshman year and thinking that I would love to have this kid on SJU's roster. He's a winner.

Welcome aboard Bryce!!! We're happy that you're here!

St. John's is trying to get fans to forget about the tough loss to Arkansas by making waves in the transfer portal. Five days after Arizona State transfer Joson Sanon joined the Red Storm, Rick Pitino lands another big fish in Bryce Hopkins. I'm joined by Zach Braziller of the NY Post who spoke to Hopkins to discuss the major addition. Forming the best front court in the country with Zuby Ejiofor, the status of his knee, what kind of player is St. John's getting and more.

Man I'm worried about the knee, but we are something else if healthy.

I agree and having had 2 knee operations there is a risk of re- injury .

Not even the best of the Orthopedists can predict risk of additional injury .

Hopkins is listed at 220 pounds . I’m sure Pitino wants 10_15 pounds off that scale . That’s if the 220 is correct and not a less than accurate Program weight .
And , surprised that no one has mentioned , will Bryce be able to keep up with the tempo that Pitino likes to play ?

Hopkins , isn’t considered a NBA prospect at age 23 in September .

Doubt his NIL is close to Zuby’s . And , shouldn’t be .

Sealy not explosive? Huh? Totally different player than Hopkins but Sealy was an incredible athlete and incredibly explosive.

Agree Boo, people comparing any Playervto Malik Sealy is a bad look .

Sealy was one of the best players to wear a SJU uniform .,
A 5 tool player , if we could use that term for BB .
Not much Malik didn’t excel at on the Court . Yes , he was Explosive and Uber Athletic .

NBA draft prospects irrelevant he’s a terrific college player.

Pitino wouldn’t have taken him and paid him a hefty NIL if he didn’t think he could keep up with his style of play, that much should be pretty clear.
