Vince

See the Euro Leagues. All guys on one year contracts. Its a year to year proposition in the NCAA
It's not just us, it's every team. This is the new norm when every player in the sport is a free agent every year. We may not like it, but we should get used to it.

I liked Vince and thought he was a good backup center. That said, whether it's Prey or someone else coming in, I'm sure Pitino and Matt have it covered.

Thanks Vince for being a redman. Good luck!!!
Yes Vince was very decent kid and very likable. Never complained or brought negativity.
When I open this topic this early morning, I thought it was about him staying, and I said good for you Vince! For me, there is tinge of sadness and it’s a shame about a lot of these kids. We will never get to see develop and improve.
I often think of a player like Willy Glass - from our Final Four team - from what I remember was solid and gave us a good four years improving along the way.

Where have you gone Willie Glass, the Johnnie Nation has its lonely eyes on you.
All the very best Vince. Hi shoot them hoops!

Pretty sad that the last 4 year player was Amar Alibegović

Amen SS&G - completely agree.
Vince thanks for being a great Johnnie and wish you lots of success in your senior year.

Seems like a great kid and I thank him for his contributions to the school. I was hoping for a step forward this year under Pitino but I guess it's not to be. I'll be honest, I always cringed a bit when he came into a game last year, the results were usually mixed.

Not happy about Vince leaving. You cant teach size and I think another year with Pitino he would have shown major improvement
while I agree... unless he's playing Zuby and Vince at the same time... how is Vince seeing the floor for more than 10 mins/game?

Yes injuries can always happen... but with 1 year left for Vince to showcase his capability... his transfer makes the most sense out of anyone on last years team.

He could really do damage at the A10 level... would be cool to see him at Fordham

I think Mug has it right - with Mitchell coming in (which I have been strongly in favor of from the beginning) and needing minutes that means Prey gets shifted from the 4 to the 5 and takes Vince's minutes, at which point Vince wanted to go play someplace (for which nobody can blame him).

I tend to agree with Marillac that there's no reason why Prey can't fill a dozen minutes at the 5, especially with frontcourt help from Mitchell and Hopkins. And I have to assume the staff will go find a large body someplace that they can develop and play in case of an injury.

The roster also has a fair amount of duplication and flexibility now (outside of PG).

Zuby - Prey
Hopkins - Mitchell - Suljanovic, Ayo
Sanon - Sellers - Liotopoulos
Jackson

Add a PG and another C and you can go big with Zuby-Hopkins-Mitchell-Sanon-Jackson or you can go smaller with Zuby-Hopkins-Sanon-Sellers-Jackson while still retaining decent rebounding.

*Forgot Suljanovic, edited to put him ahead of Ayo, had to offset agreeing with Marillac

And sometimes you can't teach a 7'1 kid to play like he's 7'1.

Backup center was our biggest weakness as a team last year. I think Vince would have improved mildly, but those minutes he gave us represent the easiest path for us to improve as a team. If Pitino finally allows Prey to play the five, I think that raises our ceiling as a team. You also bring in another big body just in case we are getting abused by a Kalkbrenner type.

What is in Vince's best interest now is to go to a school that will keep him in the lane and either pay some kind of zone or switch just 1-4. A school that will guarantee him a starting job and 25 minutes.

Outside shooting was our biggest weakness last year. Vince and Prey were serviceable as backup centers.

Good luck Vince and thanks.
