Speaking of technicalsl Wright went wild in their last game and got one. Today he was ready to charge the court and was held back. Several of his outbursts today could have warranted one. Watched several Nova games and he does as much complaining as Mullin does. Just maybe it's the poor officiating that we see each game.
 
we played pretty good defense when they tried to push the ball inside . The problem was that as our defense collapsed inside the ball handler looked out to the three point line to a wide open shooter . This hurt us badly in the second half. especially Di Vicenzo .

Wright gets respect from the refs as a top notch coach so they give him slack
 
The effort was clearly there - the kids played hard and never gave up
As mentioned, we do not have enough muscle underneath to compete
We were killed by their offensive rebounding and inside scoring
I watched Ellison closely today - he has really improved as a defender
My beef with our team is a lack of fundamentals

Some examples:
1. Sideline violation inbounding the ball - can't remember last time I saw that
2. Blindly saving the ball under opponent's basket, which led to an easy hoop
3. Not calling out picks (Ponds got hammered on one around midcourt)
4. Falling for pump fakes all game - something you teach coaching junior high ball

With our margin for error so thin this year, we have to play hard and much smarter

When we are down near the end of the game mullin need a to play his best outside shooters and they are lovett, ponds and mussini. And Mussini needs to get touches.
 
Last four losses not a surprise. Hopefully they come to play Monday in game they should win & give them a little bounce in their step. Otherwise they could go on big slide and discourage everyone.

Also, for those who were there, how great was Bandwagon Cam during that one timeout? It was a bit crude, but I admit, I laughed.

For those who were not in attendance, the Bandwagon Cam showed Nova fans on the board, and then put funny captions on top of it, like "Diehard Nova fan since April 4, 2016", "Doesn't know what state Villanova is in", and "Never been to Pennsylvania in their lives." The fans who were picked on seemed to take it in stride.
 
We need Ahmed as third scorer, but he's in a big funk.

Indeed. When he hit those two corner threes to begin the game, I thought this was gonna be a real close one. He's just so reckless and not reliable. Simon is a big piece next year hopefully he can score the ball
 
it could have been blowout but at least we covered the spread ( my new years resolution of not being a glass half empty person )

biggest negative of the game was eating penn station food and falling asleep on the train and missing my stop for the100th time in my life
 
I thought our defense against Hart and Brunson was excellent, however our rebounding both defensively and offensively sucks. Did we even get one offensive board? How many second and third chances did we give the NCAA's champions? Obviously we get little offense from Owens and Yakwe. Number one priority for Mullin and staff is to recruit a transfer or community college big man who can provide offense and rebounds.
When will someone stop Ahmed's wild drives anggd have him pull up for a short jumper. Villanova was overconfident today.

i was at game and could project every possession. We shoot, one shot, we never crash boards, Nova comes down floor, get three shots and put it in. Nobody on the boards. Empty possessions and one shot and done is what kills a team. Another frustrating game to watch. Honestly getting tired of being frustrated. Hate to say but I don't see us becoming a contender with Mully. Love him as a player, a coach.....not so much, even though in year two, I don't like our direction.

Ironically I lost half my bronx play ale too. It was a freaking tragedy today and then I had to get online and get another one

You are right. A lot of similarities to Bangura. Bashir a better shooter. Bangura a better finisher and even more athletic but overall very similar. Both could be frustrating to watch being so single minded and too often not making the good pass.

I think some of it is theatrics. Sees his guys not giving 100% and wants to fire them up.
 
why no Williams? He rebounds at least. Lovefest with Ellison is killing me. 3 players on this team are actually BE caliber...Ponds, LoVett, and Owens. Everyone else needs to play like an old time blue collar johnnie, and they are NOT. No fight in these guys.

Mussini is strictly a catch and shoot guy
He is very good in that situation
But if he has to dribble even once before he shoots, fuggetaboutit

We keep expecting Bashir to be something that he is not. When he is hot, he can carry us in short spurts. When he is not, he can bury us. That's who he is. That is likely who he will always be. He is not a consistent viable 3rd scoring option regardless of how desperately we need him to be and want him to be. Hopefully next year we can find a suitable replacement for him.
