Villanova, Sat. Jan. 14, 12 Noon, FS1/570AM

We keep expecting Bashir to be something that he is not. When he is hot, he can carry us in short spurts. When he is not, he can bury us. That's who he is. That is likely who he will always be. He is not a consistent viable 3rd scoring option regardless of how desperately we need him to be and want him to be. Hopefully next year we can find a suitable replacement for him.

Having heard that he was a JUCO All American, I expected a lot more out of Ahmed
I really thought that he had the potential to be a major force this season
Having seen him play this year, I don't think he will ever be one for us

I'll say this about the game. The best part was that scoreboard segment called fair-weather fan or whatever it was called and they put captions under the villanova fans. That was really funny

If and when Ahmed can learn to play under control he becomes a very good weapon. He has had quite a few good games for us. This is part of his maturation. The staff has gotten Ellison to play under control and in the team concept. Lately his performance has been very good and while he is not a big scorer he is contributing by scoring , rebounding , assists and improved D. If Ahmed does not learn to play within the team concept his minutes will decline next season. I have confidence the staff will get him to play a more in control games.

We need Ahmed as third scorer, but he's in a big funk.

Has to play but is more negative than positive right now. Forced shots, forced, out of control drives, goes for every fake and loafs down court. I notice that Mullin seems to yank him when he commits one of the above. Don't think he has connected dots as yet.

why no Williams? He rebounds at least. Lovefest with Ellison is killing me. 3 players on this team are actually BE caliber...Ponds, LoVett, and Owens. Everyone else needs to play like an old time blue collar johnnie, and they are NOT. No fight in these guys.

Williams should get in before Alibegovic
They should glue Alibegovic's shorts to the bench

He forgot to wear them.

Bashir Ahmed is Durand Johnson in disguise

Bashir Ahmed = Alpha Bengura.

His tendency to take untimely, low % shots and forced drives has been stated over and over again.

That aside, someone needs to introduce him to a pull up jump shot. Once he starts to drive -- that's it even if it means driving into a brick wall

I thought our defense against Hart and Brunson was excellent, however our rebounding both defensively and offensively sucks. Did we even get one offensive board? How many second and third chances did we give the NCAA's champions? Obviously we get little offense from Owens and Yakwe. Number one priority for Mullin and staff is to recruit a transfer or community college big man who can provide offense and rebounds.
When will someone stop Ahmed's wild drives anggd have him pull up for a short jumper. Villanova was overconfident today.

41-23 rebounding deficit with 3 offensive rebounds, one of which was by Ponds. Pathetic
I just don't understand how Yakwe with his athleticism, quickness and hops does not grab more rebounds. It's not Ike he is busy in the post.

Don't share your optimism North. Hope I'm wrong.

Agree. I think the die is cast. He is a junior and, while still relatively young, is closer to the end of his college career. If we were good, he would be a good player coming off the bench. Unfortunately, we are not good (yet) ad he has to play a bigger role,

plenty is written about our atrocious defense, our offense today was a one man street game. Way too many possessions of a guy bringing the ball down the court and going one on one ( usually missing ) and taking shot. We are a much better team when we move it around to our open guy. With Ponds, LoVett, Ahmed, and Moose in the game we need to find the open shot. Its bad enough that we've become a one demintional team that only takes low % shots, at the very least find the open man AND crash the boards for the rebound!

The team played very hard today and kept it close most of the way. Can't be upset about today's outcome. We are a couple of front court players and an additional year of experience away from becoming a very good team

I concur---but I'd leave out the word "very." I'll settle for us being a good team next year.

i love this program as much if not more than the next guy...but in all reality we had 3 good games. Cuse, Butler, and Fordham. We've underachieved with this talent. They are young?? So are plenty of other teams with less talent and have more wins. Its the mental miscues that are most frustrating

Agreed. Whether we like it or not, Ellison is our 3rd scorer. I will say, I am warming up to him a bit. Plays hard, showing improvement and could be a valuable piece if he sticks around.

Regarding Williams, I just can't figure out why he doesn't get more burn. When you consider what we are getting from Yakwe, it couldn't hurt to see what he does with some extended time?

Hopefully after today coach is done with Amar and WIlliams can get more of his time that he was inexplicably getting.

Also Ellison's defense on Hart was great today. Still making mistakes on the court but his defense has picked up. Slowly.

This team needs to keep pushing.

Important that Lovett comes back or McMurray replaces him. We can run with Simon/Ellison at SF with that backcourt, and let Clark battle in out with Amed at PF. If Ahmed can't change his game, he sits. Or let him play C as part of an underwhelming, undersized, four-headed monster. At least his rebounding skills will be useful there against smaller opponents. Maybe being trapped five feet from the basket will curb his bad decisions.

Why even mention Amar Alibegovic? He was in for a couple of errors and was promptly put in long term parking.
Team continues to make mental errors due to lack of experience. We actually assisted on 6 Nova points! The rebounding was atrocious but Mullin kept shouting at them to rebound. Yakwe is constantly out of position for rebounds and nothing in his game comes naturally. He is a starter but his lack of production is one of the biggest liabilities on the team. Ellison is improving on sheer athletic ability but he possesses a very low basketball IQ for the son of a former player. He is still a better option than Mussini whose minutes at this point I would give to Holifield.
In today's loss, other than the total uselessness of Yakwe inside, Marcus and Bashir forced things too often ending in either turnovers or empty possessions. I counted 8 points off those those forced offensive drives.
Finally, our bench was mostly useless today and I credit Mullin for recognizing our Euro imports were not at this level.
This game was winnable had every player brought their A game. We continue to be the team of lost opportunities. :(

Clark and Simon will be wildcards for us.

Coming from great programs, but they are still guys who only had 10 min playing time under their belts and less then 3-4 pts/game.

I'd rather they surprise us, then expect too much... like most of us did with Ahmed this year.
