@Villanova, Sat. Feb. 4, 8pm, CBS Sports/570AM

As far as Mullin and Cooley are concerned I am looking forward to our last game at the garden against the Friars, especially if it means we have a chance to get in the NIT.

Mullin w/ early KO. Reach, conditioning. Not even close.

Thank you Simply Red for allowing that my anti-Philly screed was not in Beast's words "idiotic". Play nice in the sandbox, Beast.

Thank you Paul for your words about Beast's waxing poetic of all things Main Line. I understand why he feels that way, though.

Philly is a pretty lousy city. Obnoxious fans undeniably. Maybe only a tad worse than Boston or NY, but definitely worse.

Philly and its environs certainly embrace Villanova and a lot of sons and daughters of well-to-do suburban Philadelphians do attend Villanova, along with many students from NJ (right next door in southern Jersey), NY and CT. NJ's biggest export is college students.

When on the southern NJ seashore one sees tons of Nova flags waving outside the expensive homes in Avalon, Stone Harbor, etc., the Philly version of the Hamptons.

Over the years, at Garden games, I've noticed a level of entitlement among their alum, not drunk and obnoxious, because they can hold their liquor.

I desperately want us to reach their level of success, and can't stand when they take over the Garden, that's all. Nothing personal toward Wright and nothing at all personal to the mothers and fathers of Villanova students who themselves attended St. John's.

P.S. As a big Big East supporter, I root for Nova and all Big East teams when they are not playing St. John's and was very happy when they won the whole thing last year affirming the Big East's prominence. Heck, I still root for the original former BE members when they are playing non-Big East schools (except for turncoat BC).

I did refer to the comment as idiotic and not you - no offense to you.

Stay away from the Jersey Shore, and only go swimming to boost your immune system.

Just think about it - all those flag waving Villanovans help the school raise $620 million, surpassing their goal 17 months ahead of schedule and counting. Imagine what SJU could do with Nova's donor base?

And their Marketing Department.

I'm betwixt and between playing a zone against Nova. Reason being we pretty much stopped their big scorers at the garden with our man defense. Hart-11pts., Brunson 8pts., Jenkins 10 pts., (7 from the foul line - his fakes behind the 3 pt. line ) And of course the surprising Donte Di Vincenzo who scored 19 pts. Can't allow that to happen.
Our offense wasn't very good, hence we only scored 57 pts. So if Ponds, Lovett , Ahmed and Ellison can do better then 13, 12, 11 and 10 respectively at the first get together we should be competitive Saturday.

Nova is so good at controlling tempo and defending. Just hoping we can compete and hang in there late. Tough though.

Living as I do in suburban Philadelphia, I can tell you that Nova is not even loved by the majority of folks here. Temple is far and away more popular. St. Joes would be second., Nova third, LaSalle fourth, Penn is fifth and Drexel is sixth.
As for the discussion on obnoxious fans, my modern day vote goes to Creighton. During the BET, they act like they own the Garden. They still can't rival the Pukes from Yukon.

I'll take SJU plus 18.5

As far as the Philly bent toward Nova, I disagree, I see way more Nova banners than Temple banners.

Beast, the southern Jersey shore, if you don't mind putting up with obnoxious Nova alum, is 10 X better than any beach on LI.

And about the Nova fans versus Creighton, I disagree, the Creighton fans I met were well behaved Midwesterners, unlike the hoity doity Nova fans.

I've never really been past seaside heights so i will take your word. Queens residents hit the rockaways in our youth and many setlled east on l.i.

I'm not sure if it is for our game or the Georgetown game but Villanova is having a "dress like Jay Wright" day, and I hope someone wears the three piece suit he owns with the vest that has lapels!.Awesome.

Jay is a slight better dresser than Chris.

Tonight in Nova nation: GO JOHNNIES!

If Villanova is some 15 points better on a neutral court than today's SJU squad they could win their second in a row.

ccnobz which way are you going on this ? I should have followed you last game on taking the points

Anyone know the inside info on the Mullin/Cooley dust up? What triggered it or, was it just post game emotion?

Possibly recruiting issues from Ponds signing with us vs Friars? just curious.

Redmen plus 18 sound good.. Wright usually is not a pile on guy. To think we might have had him instead of Jarvis or Roberts is worthy of comment somewhere.

Of course, FH was in charge then, doing his best to wreck the University and Basketball. He succeeded in both.

Cooley was basically a whiny bitch and sore loser after the game

I agree with you Mike
I don't think it had anything to do with recruiting, etc
Cooley didn't get the calls down the stretch and probably never expected to lose to us
As Bill Maher (related?) often refers toTrump, "Whiny little bitch"

I'm taking them, hopefully we can keep it close until half- they will pull away then we hit a few late threes to cover...

I think Cooley told Mullin the refs gave the game to him. Mullin responded like a New Yorker would.
