@Villanova, Sat. Feb. 4, 8pm, CBS Sports/570AM

Looking forward to this one. No pressure whatsoever. We're going in with a lot of confidence.

Wish it wasn't an 8pm game so the 114 crew would have a good excuse to go down and eat a bunch of cheesesteaks. But night before the super bowl my cholesterol is probably better off with an off day on saturday

I would really love to stick it to them at some point and their fans.

The cockiness level of their fans is reaching Duke and Kentucky proportions. Unfortunately a lot of NOVA graduates live on Long Island.
I guess you can act this way after a National Championship.
Hopefully sooner or later we win one of these games.

Nova is just not hateable.
How soon you forget the days of Cuse and UConn being in the Big East!

I have a lot of Nova friends and family graduates, they are taking it to a new level. They are already convinced they are not losing another game this year.

To your point however, Nova is not as Trashy as the UCONN and Syracuse fans.

Nova's a Philly team, where they boo opposing football players when they lay injured and motionless on the field and where they throw ice balls at Santa.

Let's pay them back for their win over us at the Garden.

It's about time.

Philadelphia, a city with no redeeming values.

That's idiotic. All of the references you cited are about Philly sports teams, not Nova. A huge chunk of Nova kids are NY, NJ, and CT kids, many kids of SJU alums, including SJU board memebers. Many root for SJU when not rooting for Nova.

Winning a national championship kind of entitles them. That's what bragging rights are.

Way back last century, when I travelled to the Final Four, the best thing about the night before and up to game time is there are 4 teams whose fans are convinced are going to win the championship. It was fun even though it couldn't last. Let their fans enjoy that - catching lightning in a bottle, as good as this year's Nova team is, is not easy or likely.

The arrogance is getting right up there trust me. Same arrogance I heard how they owned NYC when we were stuck with Jarvis but on a larger scale.

The Nova kids whose parents are SJU alums (and I know quite a few) are not the arrogant ones that I am referring to.

Jay Wright speaks to the entire Freshman class during orientation each year. One of the things he tells them is from that moment on, they aren't just VIllanova students, they ARE Villanova and part of Nova Nation. HE reminds them that from that moment on they are connected as part of a community to every single person who ever went to Villanova. Then he tells them that every single thing they do from that moment on, either on campus or off, in their own home town or in Radnor or Wayne or King of Prussia, reflects not only on them, but the Villanova community as a whole. He reminds them that being part of this great community comes with a lot of responsibility to conduct yourself as a Villanovan.

During senior year he speaks to the entire graduating class at the senior breakfast. He reminds them of that responsibility and thanks them for upholding their end of the deal to make NovaNation and Villanova bigger and better than ever.

While I don't doubt that there are arrogant asses who annoy you at games and elsewhere, Jay Wright does more than perhaps any other coach in America to connect to students and encourage them to behave with class and dignity.

I really hope Chris Mullin will do the same stuff for us very soon in connecting with students the same way.

I'm fine with Nova being the villain. Big East doesn't really have any. We all hate Syracuse but those games are always highly anticipated. Georgetown was supposed to fill the roll of UConn/Syracuse but have disappointed.

Personally I like Nova and root for them when we're not playing them. But beating them has a lot more significance than it did a year ago.

I generally like Jay Wright and Villanova but every time Villanova comes up in any way, shape or form Beast starts waxing poetic and I throw up a little in my mouth.

Reminds me of Sean Penn talking Iraq

It's not "idiotic." It is sports. Cities form rivalries and express hatred for each other. Personally, I hate everything related to Boston sports. Otherwise, it seems like a wonderful city. Sports hatred is good natured---although Philly fans do seem to take things too far at times.

The only diffetence is nearly all philly fans who attend games are from.around philly. Most Villanova students are not from pennsylvania.

I've never hated Nova in the past -- maybe disliked them at times, but never hated them -- and I certainly don't hate them now. Their winning the national championship last year -- especially against UNC -- has given the new Big East a prestige and credibility it wouldn't otherwise have at this time. For that alone -- and barring some unforeseen, horrible, out-of-character (under Wright) behavior, I'll always give them -- unlike Syracuse or UConn -- a pass in the "hate department."

About the only thing I don't like about the new big east is that I don't hate any of the other schools. I don't even hate the Hoyas in the new league.

This league is on the same mission to prove that they are as good and better than the mega football conferences.
