Villanova (MSG), Wed., Jan. 24, 8:30p, FS-1

Jenkins gave up the ball in the closing seconds for the second time that I’ve noticed to avoid the charged turnover. Zuby was man enough to take it on his behalf. Not a good look. Ledlum took one earlier in the year for him.
Well he heard you complaining about shots of his at the end of the shot clock 🤣

Great win men, don't rest on your laurels, work hard in practice and don't lose focus on the Musketeers.

Defense wins games, we got after them last night.

Loved the ovation for J O E L

Had a great time seeing and chatting with the 114 crew at halftime, what a great bunch of people, hard core fans. Even Monte and MJMJr, hey Monte, your brother's place is so spacious, you probably didn't see me there last night.

Last comment, as many on here probably do, I know a bunch of Villanova alums and fans, and boy to a person are they down on Neptune, he's losing their support rapidly.

That is what happens when you follow a legend, Mahoney after Looie, plus Jay Wright had them on top of the mountain, so these fans are not used to being in the middle of the pack.

We had a great defensive effort, and they also missed quite a few open looks...but that combo is how you end up with 50 points at the end of the game. I didn't read through the whole thread, but Ledlum is getting beat off the dribble too often. Otherwise he's an amazing fighter down low for rebounding position and an occasional block - plays bigger than he is. Taylor played both ends of the floor like a beast.

I believe a big point in this game was in the second half when Jenkins was a bit out of control with consecutive behind the back dribble penetrations where he lost the ball and was bailed out with a foul call, coach Pitino called a time out, settled him down and from there he ran a controlled offense and distributed the ball nicely. Coach got his point across that getting others involved and not trying to take it on himself proved much more productive to the team.

Ledlum is never going to get outworked for a rebound. He's not going to grab every board, because he's a bit undersized, but the best he can be is tied, in terms of effort.

Have been a Ledlum fan since Day 1. You can be taller than he is, you can be stronger than he is, you can be quicker than he is - but you can't want the ball more than he does. He and Taylor are guys who make your team better doing the work that lets other guys get the glory.

As for the game, I wouldn't get high on this win any more that one should have been low on the Seton Hall loss. The net is that the team remains on schedule - all that remains is to beat SHU and Creighton at home, don't F up against Georgetown and DePaul. Anything else (win at Butler, X, Providence) is gravy.

All coaches will concede that you cannot focus on everything, you are going to give up something on defense. So Nova got open looks but missed, those looks become much, much tougher when you are not getting anything else out of your offense. If they started to hit, that is where coaching adjustments come into play.

One more point on Dingle, never met him, never saw him play for Penn but he is obviously very intelligent, I have to believe he knew to a large degree what he was getting into when he signed to play for Pitino.
Operating on the assumption he has played most of his life with the ball in his hands and a green light, I have nothing but respect for him, he has handled the change in role and approach with all the associated ups and downs with commitment and class.
Here’s hoping last night was a glimpse into the rest of the year because shots falling come and go, good, balanced play does not. And my feeling is by reaching a comfort level with Pitino’s expectations, his offensive game will start to flow.
It's interesting; when he is driving he doesn't have a chance to overthink and he has been just fine going to the basket. On three pointers he has been terrible the last few games, and I think it's because he has a second to think about it and is in his head.
