Villanova (MSG), Wed., Jan. 24, 8:30p, FS-1

Actually I am not labeling him as a backup, just saying he can run the team when Jenkins is out. Didn’t mean he couldn’t start at the other spot. I actually wish he had another year to do a Hardy thing his second year here.
I meant backup ball handler…sorry for the confusion. I thought it would be a 60-40 ball-handling split going into this season. I am completely shocked at their inability to play together.

I think Dingle would excel with the soph version of Wilcher. It’s a shame we won’t see that.

Jenkins gave up the ball in the closing seconds for the second time that I’ve noticed to avoid the charged turnover. Zuby was man enough to take it on his behalf. Not a good look. Ledlum took one earlier in the year for him.
Are you sure a 30 second violation isn’t just a team turnover like a team rebound? Why give an individual player a turnover on a shot clock violation? Half the time the ball is loose and being knocked around by both teams when the shot clock goes off.

As I said a few days ago:
"I like our chances against Nova even with Moore back.
We should have beaten Uconn. We should have beaten Creighton and we had 3 chances to beat Marquette in the final minute.
Dingle will be back and Joel will be super motivated."

Alas, even after taking Nova to the woodshed, Marillac2 focuses on negativity about Jenkins.🤫

Great to be there tonight.

I don't know if the folks watching on TV could tell, but we really bothered Nova on simply getting the ball in-bounds. Taylor obviously was extremely active in that front, but even the guards and forwards guarding on the press.

Dingle makes such a huge difference when he's aggressive and scoring the ball. It's just what we need.

Wilcher by all accounts is a great kid with a good head on his shoulders. And if so, I think he is going to flourish with Pitino.

Zuby continues to just disrupt every front court -- hell the entire team -- when he comes in the game. He's still limited offensively, but the intensity and way he attacks every freaking rebound is admirable. Another one who I can't wait to see develop with Pitino.

Great to see Joel back and feeling good.

The Nova faithful have had it with Neptune. A few of their fan base were scattered in the back of my section, and they were chanting Fire Neptune at one point during the second half, with plenty of time left. And yes, they started leaving in droves with like 8 minutes left.

I know Nova was so adept during the Wright years -- especially his later teams -- with the drive into the lane and kick-out for the open 3. But I thought they passed up so many good looks tonight doing that. Basically everyone but Bamba.

I don't know what's happened to Justin Moore. It has to be injury-related. Because coming into this season, if he was healthy, he'd be first kid I'd pick for my team above anyone in the league based on past performance. He looks like a shell of his former self.

I don’t think any players know the actual rule. It’s super common in the NBA to pass it off to a lesser player with a second left on the shot clock in a lopsided game. I’m pretty sure it’s a team turnover in the NBA.

Jenkins actually told Pitino he didn’t want the turnover when Pitino told him to hold it. Zuby heard that and took the pass.

Taylor was as active as anyone I’ve ever seen guarding the inbounds. It was really affecting Nova. I would think you’d want Luis there with his length but Taylor so much more active.

I guess you could see it on tv too but man in person it was stunning to watch he got in the in bounders heads. I'll take Taylor over Luis on the inbounds because he jumps so much and his Predator like hair when it starts flying around intimidates the inbound too

Final thoughts on the night…Soriano, Zuby, and Ledlum might be the best offensive rebounding trio I’ve seen at St. John’s, and we’ve had a disproportionate amount of teams finish in the top 10 nationally in my time as a fan. Now we’ve got Luis in there with his long ass arms?

It’s the one thing we do better than arguably any other team in the country. And when your season and/or career is on the line in March in a close game…look out. It’s going to get wild in there if we are in a close game in March.
