Villanova (MSG), Wed., Jan. 24, 8:30p, FS-1

Final thoughts on the night…Soriano, Zuby, and Ledlum might be the best offensive rebounding trio I’ve seen at St. John’s, and we’ve had a disproportionate amount of teams finish in the top 10 nationally in my time as a fan. Now we’ve got Luis in there with his long ass arms?

It’s the one thing we do better than arguably any other team in the country. And when your season and/or career is on the line in March in a close game…look out. It’s going to get wild in there if we are in a close game in March.
Ledlum is never going to get outworked for a rebound. He's not going to grab every board, because he's a bit undersized, but the best he can be is tied, in terms of effort.

I could not disagree more, especially with the comparison to Hardy. Dingles outside shot is below average, to be polite, and his handle and quickness are no where close to Hardy or Jenkins.
Hardy shot 35.4% from deep as a senior and Dingle is shooting 33.3% and was 35.6% last year on an absurd 7.7 attempts per game. That’s pretty close, man. On January 26th in Hardy’s senior season, he was shooting only 29% from 3.

I don’t know if there is time for Dingle to assume that kind of role. He’s got a ton of mistakes and growing pains to get through.

Respectfully, agree to disagree, and I hope Jordan proves me wrong and you right. Not just because it helps the team we both root like crazy for, but also because he seems like such a good teammate and by all accounts is a wonderful young man, that I would love to see him succeed

Hey, I'm happy for you guys. Nice to win a game on defense, rebounding and Batman's return to form. As the boards self proclaimed #1 Daniss Jenkins fan, I must admit dismay over the 4 consecutive and counting sub par performances. While at least the stellar assist/turnover numbers we've come to expect returned, the fact remains that he hasn't had a good outing since the Providence game. Loyalty is my middle name so I will not abandon my Mfp. But I must admit that Drissa Traore is tempting and dreamy as anything.

One of the loudest moments of the night.

I loved that moment cause it was the fans rewarding Soriano but also going “please play like this every game” 😂
I think that is the problem
Nobody shoots 8-9 every night
It is funny for a fan base that either is apathetic or thinks all is well all the time, our best player always seems to get unfairly treated on here.
See Harrison, Deangelo.

Neptune's team couldn't throw it into the ocean last night.

My work is done here. Goodbye.

I think what last night showed is that when this team plays great defense, and each guy contributes within their skill set, they can beat anyone.

The thing I would like to see as a final piece of the puzzle (in addition to having to sustain that kind of effort etc.) is that one of our guys, whether it is Dingle, Alyene, Dunlop, Ludlum consistently be able to hit the 3 point shot. Too many times, we have open 3s that could put the clamp down and we miss it.

This not directed at Jack post but to people claiming Zuby was better than Joel.

Artest, Thornton, Grant, and Postell was a heckuva trio (plus one) during the '98-'99 season, but I can't really dispute your point re: Soriano, Zuby, and Ledlum. I expect this team, similar to the '98-'99 squad, to regularly grab an offensive board.

Biased or not, spot on, he had a very strong game.
One more point on Dingle, never met him, never saw him play for Penn but he is obviously very intelligent, I have to believe he knew to a large degree what he was getting into when he signed to play for Pitino.
Operating on the assumption he has played most of his life with the ball in his hands and a green light, I have nothing but respect for him, he has handled the change in role and approach with all the associated ups and downs with commitment and class.
Here’s hoping last night was a glimpse into the rest of the year because shots falling come and go, good, balanced play does not. And my feeling is by reaching a comfort level with Pitino’s expectations, his offensive game will start to flow.

Great game & the perfect answer after losing brutal 3 straight. We should’ve been up 10-15 while Nova closed within 5-6 at times. FT shooting is clearly an issue & you can just feel it’s far from a guarantee for any. No idea why. Everyone we face seems to hit them easily even in crucial spots.

On to positives: Joel with much needed comeback game, we played as a team with way more energy, Ledlum was denying lanes on D that he was not many games prior. D was awesome…a few times Nova was moving ball well making extra pass but our guys clearly knew assignments & closed on them to contest everything. Zuby is a beast (doesn’t show in boxscores) & it’s amazing seeing him & Wilcher improve from guys who looked clueless to contributors.

We all needed this badly. Nice easy game to watch & we stepped on their throats early enough to KO them.

Soriano came back to form last night. He just cannot get into another funk again this season.

Jenkins has some ridiculous passes last night. He is a special player.

If we can win vs Xavier and head to the garden that Saturday to play #1 Uconn, my goodness it will be a madhouse.

Go Johnnies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
