Villanova- Game 2

With a number 1 seed in the NCAA tourney within their sights, Nova has every reason to maintain their focus and intensity at home. They are more than aware of our recent success, and Wright likely has reminded them not to take us lightly. Even with a #1 seed, they could be sent far from home.

This can be a signature win, but an away loss would not be devastating in any way. Still may make the trip down if things break right in the AM.

A win lands us in the top 25, and a seed as high as 5-6 (maybe even a 4 if we won the BET) A lot at stake tomorrow for both teams.

Go Redmen.

In my opinion this has the feel of a house money game. However, I think it might be a little more than that. We can surely make a little statement by beating Villanova on their home court. At this point a senior laden team with the talent they have should rightly be thinking we can beat just about anybody, anywhere. Let's hope our guys go out and get a big win as they build some momentum into tournament play. Opportunity is knocking let's bust through the door. Go St. John's!

I'd like to see the bench get some meaningful minutes against a quality opponent. They will be needed in order to make a real run in both tournaments.

Winning today is a key step towards a sweet 16 run in NCAA. Seeding is too important and a loss here keeps the johnnies in that area of playing a 1 or 2 seed in round 2. Beat nova twice and get a 4 or 5 seed. This is the route to a sweet 16 matchup with a top team

Can't make the game today unfortunately we were supposed to go but snow and a conflict got in the way.

Wow getting 12 tomorrow

Vegas had to make it a serious number to account for road + inferior team having four guys play 40 minutes 60 hours ago. But I'm surprised it's that big. Believe that's our biggest dog of the year. I'm even more surprised the number didn't work to flow action to the Johnnies - Nova up to 12.5!

Hope we make it interesting. If not, no harm calling it off early. Thursday (and hopefully Friday!) far more important.

Just got done chanting "Let's Go Johnnies" with my three year old. My niece and nephew (his cousins) are Nova fans, so we did it over the phone.

Now I am ready. Is it 2pm yet?

I dunno, for some reason I'm having a hard time getting too excited about this game. I was really pumped for Xavier and Georgetown, and am super excited for the Big East Tournament. Being a lock for the NCAA's I guess took some of the drama away

Where is the pregame and at what time?

Looks like i'm buying crappy seats. The ones I had my eyes on are gone on stubhub. Where is JSJ when you need him? :)

I certainly believe that we can play with Villanova. During the last few years of losses to them I never have felt a big gap between us and them in terms of raw talent. The main difference always seems to come down to our depth due to foul trouble. This Villanova team has consistently put us in a hole by getting our players into foul trouble. This is likely to be exacerbated now because we only have a five player rotation (with Branch out) and no bench to speak of.

I think, to win, we will need a game where either the officials let players play without much whistle blowing or we get some significant minutes from an unexpected source (see Alibegovic, Balamou, Stewart, Joey D, Christian Jones).

Neither of these two scenarios seem that likely to me. Villanova gets tons of calls and knows how to get them, plus they are at home where the refs are influenced by the crowd. As for the scenario where we get some help from our untapped reserves, for the most part we have been very reticent to trust our bench this season (see the first Villanova game or our last game against Marquette).

This isn't much of a prediction considering how well he's been playing, but I think Sheed will have a huge game today. He's going to want the ball in his hometown.

This is from a Villanova message board. Enjoy.......

Re: Nova Opening @ -12 v. St. John's Reply
I think that's about right. Ennis will put a lid on Pointer and Hilliard will take care of Jordan. Arci holds his own against Harrison. We play an excellent game with the offense in high gear. We could be looking at a blowout. SJU goes back to their every man for himself offense for much of the second half which causes them to implode. After this happens, I don't want to play them in NYC. I'd rather play Georgetown next Friday. 3/6 5:19 PM | IP: Logged
