VCU

US News ranks VCU as the #16 "Up and Coming National University".

St. John's did not make that list.

Last I will say about this, because I agree we should keep it basketball...but "up and coming" means they aren't there yet. They aren't very established as a name brand school with prestige. SJU is much more well-known nationally than VCU so that may be a big reason we aren't "up and coming" because we are already "there" in terms of popularity, a decent education, and recognition. By the way these rankings are extremely political and schools have even been caught trying to boost their ranking by kissing up to the publishers or a publisher may be an alumni. It's not a perfect system to say the least. The reason we have a low SAT score on average is because as I've said before, we seem to target (and accept via affirmative action) the groups that notoriously perform lower i.e. inner-city, first time in their family college students who by in large don't make academics a priority as applicants at Nova and PC do. Obviously not every one fits that mold, but by in large you get the point. If we actually decided to have higher standards accepting only the top applicants with no quotas, we would have much better rankings and scores. Instead of accepting for social and political reasons, we should be accepting for academics. That's all I'll say about that, but at the end of the day I'd be for having VCU for basketball.

Or it could be that the Vincentian community has stayed true to their mission for which most of us honor them and that your need to have the ranking of your school some how aggrandize your status is of no consequence.

fuchsia,

I will respect the request by "Moose" to avoid discussions of academics on this page but I invite you to share your thoughts about the Vincentian community staying true to their mission at St. John's on the below linked "Players Lounge" section of this site.

Thanks.
