USF Game

Hello TIF,

Could not agree more about your comments and observations about Coach Carnesecca.

Difficult to believe he is 88 years young !!

Not many people left their seats for the halftime festivities.

Great to see some 60 plus Redmen basketball players and managers with COACH at Halftime.

Some names from the past who were at the game were:

Frankie Alagia, Mel Utley, Glen Williams, Bill Shea, Pete Lamantia, Gus Alfieri, Carmine Calzonetti, Felipe Lopez, Bernard Rencher, Billy Schaefer, Mel Davis, Shawnelle Scott, Ed Manetta, Rob Cornegy, and Terry Bross.

They were going to continue the celebration at The Sly Foxxx after the game.

Jack Kaiser, a true St. John's gentleman if there ever was one, had some great comments introducing Coach Carnesecca.

Both he and Coach Carnesecca were extremely complimentary of the crowd and all St. John's fans.

Mike Repole was sitting courtside.

Had the great good fortune to meet Salty Dog of Redmen.Com fame after the game.

Also met Kenny Rood, who was a great basketball player at St. Anthony's High School (Long Island), where he played for Gus Alfieri in the mid-1970's. He then took his game to Hofstra.

He was a great FT shooter and was ranked #3 in the country his junior season. He went to the NCAA's twice during his career with, then,The Flying Dutchmen.

It was a great night !

Agree on all counts Kevin.
I know your trip back to Jersey was much easier with the win.
At this point of time, I believe that the enthusiasm for St. John's
basketball is starting to come back. We really need to stay on
this path and continue the momentum that winning brings.
Great time at the party after the game.

To that point with Greene, no turnovers!! He and Harrison played very well as a backcourt IMO.

The team only turned it over 8 times for the entire game, as a whole they take care of the ball pretty well. As for Greene's shooting last night- well that's a different story.

Someone on the "other" board mentioned keady saying branch looked like a go for Sunday fwiw at the red/white reception

Impossible. Our resident doctors have scheduled Branch for leg amputation.

I was at the game, i noticed C Jones never got in or removed his sweats. Is he hurt or just a DNP?

Postgame quotes
Lavin said he came to him saying he didnt feel well.

with the 50% off ticket deal for the pitt game and nothing else happening on sunday unless you are a car racing fan this Pitt game is our biggest game of the year.

Gotta get a good crowd for this game

Nothing else happening on sunday?
what's the buzz tell me what's a happening etc.
I think National Geographic has a few re-runs.
(smile, wink, frown - have no clue how to get one of these faces attached)

all the best

I was a little disappointed that so many great players were missing. Mullin, JAckson, Berry, Wennington, David Russell, Artest, etc. Would have liked to see Jayson Williams, Zendon, Billy Paultz, Kevin Loughery, etc.

Coach C. is great, adn can still command an audience of 5000.

I felt same way...in addition to the notables you mentioned...would have liked to see guys like McKoy, George Johnson, Bootsy, Postell et al...makes you realize we've had some good ones pass through

It was a great turnout nonetheless. Many of the alums mentioned live out of town. I am sure if this were a Saturday or Sunday event some of the missing may have made the trip.

I'm pretty sure it was McKoy who lingered for several minutes at courtside after the players filteredout and chatted with a fan he knew. He walked with a noticeable limp. I don't know how it could be done, perhaps as a fundraiser to defray travel costs for guys who can't afford it. Imagine a reception where every living player was available to mingle with fans, sign autographs, take photos. I can't think of a better Redmen event. This was nice, but even to give one sentence to each player would have been nice. "At Center, 1980-84, at 6-10, Jeff Allen"

I know they wanted to do it when the stands were full but they really should have done it before the game so they wouldn't have the time constraints that they had.
