USF Game

Nice win by our guys tonight. But if they didn't win, it would have been a major upset.

Louie was in rare form tonight during the half-time festivities. God, I hope I look and act as good as he does when, or IF, I reach his age. God Bless him!

I will be at the Pitt game too and I hope we get a big crowd. The only thing that might keep the crowd down is the 12 noon start. But I hope people take my point of view, which is an early start means I get to watch my team win and then spend the rest of the day in the city with my wife. :)

Hello TIF,

Could not agree more about your comments and observations about Coach Carnesecca.

Difficult to believe he is 88 years young !!

Not many people left their seats for the halftime festivities.

Great to see some 60 plus Redmen basketball players and managers with COACH at Halftime.

Some names from the past who were at the game were:

Frankie Alagia, Mel Utley, Glen Williams, Bill Shea, Pete Lamantia, Gus Alfieri, Carmine Calzonetti, Felipe Lopez, Bernard Rencher, Billy Schaefer, Mel Davis, Shawnelle Scott, Ed Manetta, Rob Cornegy, and Terry Bross.

They were going to continue the celebration at The Sly Foxxx after the game.

Jack Kaiser, a true St. John's gentleman if there ever was one, had some great comments introducing Coach Carnesecca.

Both he and Coach Carnesecca were extremely complimentary of the crowd and all St. John's fans.

Mike Repole was sitting courtside.

Had the great good fortune to meet Salty Dog of Redmen.Com fame after the game.

Also met Kenny Rood, who was a great basketball player at St. Anthony's High School (Long Island), where he played for Gus Alfieri in the mid-1970's. He then took his game to Hofstra.

He was a great FT shooter and was ranked #3 in the country his junior season. He went to the NCAA's twice during his career with, then,The Flying Dutchmen.

It was a great night !

I was a little disappointed that so many great players were missing. Mullin, JAckson, Berry, Wennington, David Russell, Artest, etc. Would have liked to see Jayson Williams, Zendon, Billy Paultz, Kevin Loughery, etc.

Coach C. is great, adn can still command an audience of 5000.

with the 50% off ticket deal for the pitt game and nothing else happening on sunday unless you are a car racing fan this Pitt game is our biggest game of the year.

Gotta get a good crowd for this game

I was 80% going to go on Sunday since I believe to have a shot at the NCAA tourny that we absolutely need this game. Now I see those tickets will be 50% off?
So I go to MSG and I`ll get it 50% off at the window?

Kinda tough for Jackson and Artest to attend, since you know, they had NBA games to participate in -- on the West Coast no less.

Agreed. Nice to see all those players. Soooo many more. Richie Lyons, Beaver Smith, literally dozens and dozens. Just lamenting how our very best weren't there.

Biggest positive for me was 19 assists on 24 field goals. Hope it becomes the norm.

Great halftime. Anyone else notice Tomas Jasolounis(?), didn't look like himself, hope all is well with him.

I was shocked to see so many guys. Great to see. Too bad they fubared it with Shawnelle Scott and a few others not being announced until after the ceremony.

As for Jayson he was at our last game and I believe another one this year. Zendon has also attended games previously. Alums are coming back much more under the Lavin regime.

Wennington also I think still announces for the Bulls so I'm sure travel was an issue there.

Biggest positive for me was 19 assists on 24 field goals. Hope it becomes the norm.

BAll movement in first 10-15 minutes was best all season.

What I like is the assists we have been getting at a good clip all year from secondary players like Greene (as we know he's not a true PG), Dee, and Pointer. Once we can get either Branch to live up to the PG hype or a legit true PG I think those numbers will be a common occurance.

To that point with Greene, no turnovers!! He and Harrison played very well as a backcourt IMO.

Looks like the Lavin train is making stops in Moose's neighborhood again. ;)

Are you Carmine from Jungle? :)

Yeah no TO's from Greene. Not going to pile on Greene. He was 0-7. Pretty sure 6 of them were 'bad' shots. Early in the shot clock or something ridiculously off balance with 2 seconds on the shot clock after 32 seconds of dribble or drivel. He is very careful with the ball. Just a bunch of indirect turnovers as I call them.

And I swear to God he gets down the court fast but stops on a dime and pulls it out. I swear on a 1-0 break one day he will pull it back. :) Keep going to the hoop. Draw the contact. Get to the FT line.
