At lunch today I picked up a copy of the USA Today College Basketball annual publication which forecasts the Big East to finish as follows:

1. Louisville
2. Sincinnati
3. $yracuse
4. Notre Dame
5. Marquette
6. RUT-gers
7. G'town
8. USF
9. Villanova
10. Seton Hall
11. Yukon
12. PITT$burgh
13. DePaul
14. Providence
15. St. John's

The USA article predicted a DFL finish for St.J's because of the many new players.

I will be shocked if St. John's finishes DFL in the BEast. In my opinion St.John's will finish somewhere between 7th to 10th place.

This is absolutely absurd. This guy clearly has no idea that Prov will not have its 2 top prospects this year. And Nova, Hall and UConn will be struggling IMO. If I'm Lavin I tape this article in the locker room. Hell I might tape it in my room

Rutgers at 6 is hysterical. They might be 13th. I take back what I said...maybe sports writers don't have to know what they are talking about.

Prediction a year late, and that team managed to get 6 wins. This might be the best team ever to be picked last in their conference.

We finished 12/16 (the one team leaving finished ahead of us) with 6 players and 5 freshmen. We lose one of the freshmen to the NBA, but return the other 5 guys, including who I, and many of us think, was really our best player. The other 5 guys now have a year under their belt, and we added 2 JUCOS who have some college experience, a transfer who played a few games for a BCS team, and some absurd talent. Yet we are going to regress behind the teams we finished ahead of last year who don't really get better, and not catch any of the teams that lost people. Makes sense. I wouldn't give much more credence to that article than we all have, it is obviously written by someone who didn't do their homework.

How on earth is SH #10 after losing TWO of their best (and only good) players?! We lost Harkless and brought in a ton more talent to replace and exceed. SH didn't replace. Rutgers at 6 is just a joke that makes 0 sense, Pitt will be much better than 12th. How is DePaul expected to be better than us? Do they even get real recruits? Also, Providence won't have their 2 stud recruits, yet get picked above us. This guy obviously got rejected by SJ as a teenager and this is his way of getting back.

I love when pubs like USA Today put this stuff out. Hopefully people believe it. Love the low expectations just to arrive on the scene toasting teams like a Phoenix through a corn field... The headlines are more prevalent when we come out of nowhere.

Sporting News' college basketball preview issue also has St. John's as last in the conference

I get a feeling that the people writing this stuff don't even look at the rosters.

It would be nice if someone associated with the St. John's men's basketball program could get their hands on the USA Today's Big East predictions and put the article on the team billboard to motivate them.

Otis, absolutely. I would post it in the locker room and say "No respect from the media...6 ESPN 100 players and they still don't respect us. Time to make some noise boys. Time to force them to respect us".

This is a problem our program has had for a while now...no one takes us seriously nationally. Locally you can sense people know we are very talented and coming back, but nationally they have no clue. It only makes it that more crucial that we have a great next few years, get ranked at some point and make the tourney.

En fuego  ;) :p

I think we could have all stopped reading after they picked a team coached by someone who can make your face bleed by looking into his eyes, to finish sixth.

Very few if any of these writers could recite our roster top to bottom the way we can. They're under no obligation to be accurate with their predictions and can always follow up with a SJU dark horse article if need be. Nice work if you can get it.
