Up Next- Monmouth

Maybe Lavin just wants to use these early games to work on the half court game. Maybe he knows he has the horses to press and run whenever he wants but he knows he has to develop a half court game. Just thinking. It's the only explanation for not playing to our strengths.

We don't play hard, we don't move our feet; to press you need guys who are committed mentally to playing D. We don't have those. Don't see this team being much but .500 unless they have an epiphany.

If Jordan comes back. I would not play Branch anymore. Maybe we can trade him for a big man that can rebound.

Were we too fast misjudging Greene last year? I say this because he did need an operation during the summer. This guy is playing under control and with much confidence. Good for you Phil.
Ugly, ugly and ugly describes our defense, allowing Monmouth to dribble untouched through the middle of the zone. They had 20, that's right 20 points in the paint in the first half. We would probably be looking at a loss if Obepka didn't show up.
What's the story with running with our backs to the ball. This isn't our first year playing together.
Can't afford to have Harrison on the bench, especially when we face better competition.

There are days during the season when I seriously dislike a number of the posters on this board; particularly the constantly negative ones and especially the game day bozos who come out of the woodwork to stir the pot. Today is one of those days.

The team was flat. They played like they thought they'd blow these guys out, played sloppy and couldn't turn it back on. This was a painful game to watch, but that doesn't mean this is a painful team overall.

What a bunch of whiners and chicken littles some guys are on here, who will eat their words as the season moves along. Listening to some of you guys, you'd think this team has never beaten anyone with a winning record, let alone a team with a decent RPI.

Go Redmen! And, here's to eventually building a fanbase of people who actually support the team instead of knocking their every move.

This game was never in jeopardy, even when they went up in the second half. It was like playing your little cousin.

SJU clearly came out looking to establish more ball movement and perimeter scoring. I counted more skip passes this game than we had all season last year combined. Odd they didn't try to work the post more.

I like the 2-3. The 1-2-2 is good as a change up. They are still awful in man and have no idea how to handle screens.

Wagner had some very nice traps that left me wondering why we couldn't do the same.

Branch is frustrating. It's early but I really hoped for more consistency from him. He has the skill. Greene looked great again.

Overall, I think this was nothing more than a scrimmage and a small step in the right direction.

We continue to be fundamentally unsound as a team. Our talent will bail us out against lesser teams. But we do not have enough talent to offset poor fundamental basketball when we go up against the big boys. And whats with the love affair some of you guys have with Sanchez? What exactly has he done except look good running up and down the court?

I'd really like to see some offensive putbacks by Sanchez. Unfortunately, he seems to be outside away from the basket. Heck look at this guy's build and size.

Why should the game ever have been in jeopardy? They were playing a team picked to finish last in the MAAC. Top 25 teams win these games by 20-30 points.

and what does winning this game by 20-30 do for us? Absolutely nothing. I'm sure that if Lavin wanted to, he could have pressed for 40mins straight and won by 20-30....but maybe that wasn't the goal?

How does being critical of the play in today's game correlate with being a chicken? I listen to everyone on this board talk about how talented this team is. My expectations are that they play to that level. That does not make me less of a fan. I wish I could go to sleep saying in Lavin we trust and that we will go to the NCAA tournament.

they need to play man to man and press and if they dont know how then this coaching staff should teach them very quickly

I'm not concerned as we have a competitive team but does this say something for parity in college basketball when the 51st ranked team(pomeroy) is challenged by the 314th ranked team (pomeroy) for 38 minutes? Monmouth played and were coached very well. If nothing else, the highlight reel of this years team is going to be a keeper for the ages.

Maybe not. Clemson #48 beat Davidson #123 by 31 tonight. Some teams just know how to take care of business.
