Lavin is using his "We'll be there in February" mantra. Maybe we should give him time. Personally, I don't see how a team that can't hit a shot will be any different, but who knows.
BTW, I'd hate to play Monmouth two or three years from now.
This game was never in jeopardy, even when they went up in the second half. It was like playing your little cousin.
SJU clearly came out looking to establish more ball movement and perimeter scoring. I counted more skip passes this game than we had all season last year combined. Odd they didn't try to work the post more.
I like the 2-3. The 1-2-2 is good as a change up. They are still awful in man and have no idea how to handle screens.
Wagner had some very nice traps that left me wondering why we couldn't do the same.
Branch is frustrating. It's early but I really hoped for more consistency from him. He has the skill. Greene looked great again.
Overall, I think this was nothing more than a scrimmage and a small step in the right direction.
Why should the game ever have been in jeopardy? They were playing a team picked to finish last in the MAAC. Top 25 teams win these games by 20-30 points.
and what does winning this game by 20-30 do for us? Absolutely nothing. I'm sure that if Lavin wanted to, he could have pressed for 40mins straight and won by 20-30....but maybe that wasn't the goal?
What?!
You think coach knew he could've won the game easily by doing X, and chose not to? Are you insane?
The goal is to win our first round game in March not beat a patsy by 30. The game was never in any jeopardy.
I think we walked away a better team. A handful more of games like these and we could be in business.
