UNLV Coach Fired

Can't see him going there, but losing Jay Wright would be a major blow to the BE. Am praying it doesn't happen.

Majerle's done a great job at Grand Canyon University. Small school, but they pack the gym for the games in Phoenix.

Wright going there is laughable.

If I were Lavin I'd stay at Fox.

I agree completely on both points. No way Wright is even talking to UNLV with his current team now in the top ten. UNLV should make one of the assistants the interim coach and start looking after the season is over.

They did name an assistant the interim coach. If Lavin could get UNLV to hire him close to what he got at St. John's he would take it.

Wright's not going anywhere. Never say never, but he loves the area, loves the school, has ties there going back to their championship season, and his wife was a student there. He has a great relationship with the school and is loved from the President down to every student. If he was interested in money, there are much better jobs and he's never entertained them.

id be shocked if thunder dan left phoenix. He has alot of buiness interests there and lives in paradise valley in a gorgeous area.

I loved him (and the nickname) as a player. I had no idea he was coaching.

Can't see Jay Wright leaving for Nova and if he did, not for that job.

Agree Beast, although if the Kentucky job opened up I could certainly see him having an interest.

He was prominently mentioned before they hired Calipari, and she squelched all rumors by saying he already has his dream job, and wasn't interested. I asked his wife about those kind of offers, and she replied, "We aren't going anywhere. We love it here." For what it's worth, they both said they loved Long Island and would have stayed there. If fate had dealt SJU a different hand back in the Wright-Hofstra days, I suspect the program would have been more than restored a long time ago.

Also maybe Fraser comes here and never gets injured. So many what ifs.

Yeah, but St. John's is never that lucky

The fact that he wasn't interested at one juncture doesn't mean he make not be interested at another. Roy Williams wasn't interested in the NC job when Dean retired, but he was a few years later. I know Jay is immersed in everything Villanova, but if he stays at Nova years from now he will likely be looked upon as a very good college coach. If he winds up at Kentucky, years from now he could well be looked upon as one of the greats. Plus his personality and sense of style seems like a perfect fit for Kentucky.
