Uconn to ACC: RUMOR

if Yukon leaves the Big East prior to completion of its 6th year then the exit fee is $30M.

I doubt that the ACC is looking to expand at this point in time. If the ACC is in fact looking to add one or more teams at this time is because there is one or more teams looking to challenge the enforceability of Grant of Rights in Court.

It has been long thought that the ACC is being held together by duct tape and will implode when the Grant of Rights expires in 2035 which is the only reason why UMiami, Florida State, Clemson and others have not already fled to the SEC or B1G for substantially better pay days and added prestige.

The value of UConn football to the ACC is near zero. ACC already has that region covered through BC and Syracuse.

Once ACC loses their top football programs [ie. Clemson, FSU, Miami, etc] it is over for them. There is no replacing those programs, at that point the ACC will be like the AAC - whether or not UConn goes to the ACC is irrelevant, media value is next to zero.

If this happens (and I am hoping it does), how big of an omelette does Ackerman have on her face?
Was thinking about that. I’d go so far as to say that if this happens, Ackerman should resign because clearly she was played by UCONN. And if it was Fox Sports that demanded she accept UCONN back, then she should go back to them and rip them a new one. And then resign.

Other than it's basketball program Uconn brings very little to the ACC table. What has the ACC membership done for Boston College? Syracuse? Louisville? Pitt?
Sure, they got a few extra million from revenue sharing but their programs have taken a back seat to the traditional tobacco road schools like Duke, UNC, NC State and Virginia.
Finally, if Hurley leaves Uconn and the basketball team falters, Uconn will be another northern bottom feeder in a southern conference.

Do you really believe that Ackerman made the decision herself ?

The tell tale time for the Big East brain trust is coming with the negotiations of the Big East media contract which expires after the 2024- 2025 season.

Buck always stops at the top no matter who else may have been involved in the decision. I do agree that real test will be the new contract.

Frankly I wouldn't blame UConn given they could probably triple their TV money in the ACC.

That said, their public begging for an ACC invite, from their football coach to their AD, has been embarrassing. Teams that are actually desired by a Power conference don't need to do that, they just join and everyone finds out after it's official.

My guess is UConn has received signals that they'll be invited once the ACC is poached, which could be anywhere from a few months to years from now depending on when the top teams can figure out the GOR. It'll still probably be worthwhile for UConn to join just due to football $$$, but it'll be more like an AAC+ at that point rather than a P2.

If St. John's decides not to hire a Pitino and we ultimately get left behind in realignment (say: Nova and Georgetown go to the B12 or whatever), then the school will fully deserve it. The landscape is quickly shifting and now is not the time for another "maybe" hire.

Things can move quickly and it's up to Cragg to realize that and best position the school for the future. I hear a lot about Dayton replacing UCONN in the Big East. If we are not careful we may be joining Dayton in the Atlantic 10.
