UCONN and US a recurring nightmare!

Interesting opening post. It made me wonder if the change in the direction of the two programs coincided with Nadav Henefeld mysteriously ending up at UConn, after being brought to the US, from Israel, to play for the Redmen. Never got the full story on that recruiting loss, which was far more damaging than the Wiggans loss.

Bingo, bingo, bingo and ST.Johns never understood how that happened either. No one said life is fair and we really came out on the short
end of the stick on that one which coincided with the beginning of unconscious rise. Hopefully a poster other than me will be able to spill the beans.

I believe his exact quote as translated was "After St. John's brought me to the U.S. I went to Yukon. It was a happy place. They had flowery meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate, where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles."

Right now UCONN is a nightmare for every team that has to play them.

Great guard play & coaching = success in college game. Even with our talented guards returning, the absence of sideline ability screws up that equation.

We have no one like Deandre Daniels. Sampson and Obekpa should wish they had half of his basketball ability.

I said it before the tournament began when we had that "who are you rooting for thread", this UCONN team is fun and easy to root for. Once the BE schools were laminated, I was pulling for UCONN.
Ollie seems like a good guy, I'm happy to see him have success.

Should we look for a UCONN avatar next? JK. :ngrin:

Don't forget Daniels was a top 10 recruit

I am a very long term and actively interested alumnus in the St. Johns entire athletic program.
I flew to the Garden last weekend and I cheered on UConn in their victory over MSU; I was even more impressed at their victory over Florida tonight.
Frankly, I see it as a win for basketball from our region, an homage to the very tough type of bball we see in every game up in the Garden , as well as a statement of respect for the culture of the Big East. Yes UConn is gone but they have predominant Big East genes at least for a year or two. I think it was good for all of us that they are mowing down competition. They also are a great team to watch play. I hope they win it all.
On an entirely other front, I watched the game on TV in Tampa tonight and thought the two announcers were the two biggest "homers" for the gators I have ever heard in any championship. I just wondered did we, in Florida, get a special feed on TNT that didn't go out to the rest of the country. They repeatedly opined that calls were not being made against UConn, that Florida had 2 championships, fully ignoring the fact that UConn had three, and continuously praising the efforts of Florida both ways until under 2 minutes to go. They made no effort to balance praise for any efforts of the opponents. After the game, they interviewed Donovan, and seemingly ignored UConn. Was it the same elsewhere? I can't imagine that the NCAA would use two biased guys like them.

Good observation. TBS has been trying something new tonight. The games are being broadcast nationally on three networks, TBS, TNT and TruTV.

TBS is where you will see and hear the national broadcast, with Greg Anthony, et al. TNT broadcasted from the perspective of it being a Florida home network. And TruTV broadcast the game from a UCONN perspective. So yes, the TNT broadcasters were most likely the usual Florida broadcasters and that's why you noticed what you did.

They are doing the same thing with the UK - Wisconsin game.

This Kentucky team is going to be really good next year when these guys are sophomores.

These are one and doners. New set of Freshman next year.

I hate UConn an their uneducated fans who for most part love the girls team like a cult and could maybe give you one of the guys name in the starting lineup. However, do not say they're Johnny come Latelys. (They were a great school in the Yankee Conference). That is always what old timers say about the program but, they have not watch the team play in 20 yrs too busy following Diana I am really Ralph Machio Taurasi. The worst, are the fans of UConn who did not go there and say it is state pride (These folks usually attended some D3 craphole and end up throwing up in streets of Stamford after a tournament game the first they watch of the year.) I do not like UK was rooting for Bo to get a title. I hope Cal takes out all his aggression and hate he has towards UConn from his days at Amherst! .

I can't hate Kevin Ollie, despite not liking UCONN. He worked hard to stay in the NBA for as long as he did. Now, he's doing it a Uconn, albeit still with several Calhoun players.
I thought Florida played poorly.

As for Kentucky -Wisconsin, it seemed to me that Kentucky got most of the calls and were allowed to bulldoze the interior. Several obvious charges against UK were not called.

And, give me a break with Greg Anthony. His commentary on the Technical foul against JOHNSON was unbelievable. To me, it was a flagrant foul with Kaminsky being slammed in the face. Not calling it flagrant was awful. Anthony was trying to sell it as a BB PLAY and even said, Kaminsky was at Fault.. Steve KERR, to his credit disagreed.

Jackson's missed free throw and his last second miss doomed the Badgers, who I thought deserved better. Kentucky could beat a lot of NBA teams regularly and its' bad for College BB to have this rampant one and done program at UK every year but, the rules allow it..

I'm not that all excited about watching UCONN-UK on Monday nite..

I've stated many times I became a fan during the norm years,

Honestly you deserve some sort of award for actually becoming a fan during the Norm years because you might be the only one in existence.

Lol I was young, but remember getting excited when they made the big east tournament with Amase, because back then it wasn't a guarantee to make the BET, so when they got in to that I would get excited.

One of my first years as a fan i remember us winning a game in the BET and coming very close to winning another one, losing to Marquette I believe in a close one.
You got excited when we moved up to 12th place to make the BE T? What were you 5? :)

Youre not the only one who became a fan during the Norm years. I went to my first SJU game when I was 13, Holiday Festival vs. NC State who was ranked. SJU won, I became a super fan, and now have 2 degrees from the school. If SJU loses that game my life would probably be a lot better right now.
