Transfers

If players are not released from their NLI at Marquette, What happens if they refuse to show up on campus? or Refuse to go to class and give the bare minimum at practice? Can they be sued by the school as a breach of contract?

They would have to sit out the year. They could try to sue but I would imagine the school protects themselves in the loi. The loi basically screws the student and protects the school.

They will be released eventually. Marquette, and most schools in the same circumstance, would want recruits to at least meet with the new coach before they decided to leave. Once they do that and still want to leave, it's unlikely Marquette would try to force them to stay.

True but they can say where they can't transfer.

If the school refuses to release them from the LOI, you might have to sit out two years. There is a kid who Zags has written about that signed a LOI at a small D1 School, but then "blew" up and tried to get out of his original LOI but the school refused. He went Prep this year instead (he was qualified) but still has to sit out next year if he is not released. School refuses to release him because they feel he was tampered with by bigger schools and they stopped rec

I am not sure if they can sign with another BE school. BE might have a rule like they do with inter-conference transfers where you would have to sit out two years instead of the NCAA mandated one year.

you should never recruit transfers within your division, creates lots of bad blood ie: UConn- St Johns

You are of course referring to Wiggins of course who was a verbal commit from Connecticut. Just before the fall signing period, UConn begged off on a kid who gave them a verbal, a chance meeting in a barber shop with a UConn assistant coach and Wiggins signs with UConn. Just another reason for bad blood between the schools.

I agree with you and that is why the Big East I believe put in that extra year on inter-conference transfers as a deterrent. I can think of one Men's basketball player who did it, Ray (?) Knight who went from GTown to Providence in the early 80's, prior to the BE instituting the extra year.

On the Women's side, a player from North Babylon (Carpenter?) a few years back signed a LOI with UConn, actually made it on campus and then left, transferring here. She only sat out her freshman year.

PS all things considered Wiggins going elsewhere was a blessing, as should have been apparent when he reneged and went to UConn. It takes two dogs with fleas to do the canine scratchy tango.

Kia Wright.

They take transfer season seriously in the state of Indiana apparently. Between Indiana and Butler you could field an entire team just of their transfers.

@ECoastBias: Sean Obi was BEAST of a rebounder as a freshman at Rice. Grabbed 30.6% of available defensive rebounds, 2nd best rate in the country.

Said to be intrigued by Robert Morris tape. Hmm

Is that last part serious?
Don't play games with me, Paultz! You know how much I like transfers.
