Breaking: St. John's adds South Carolina transfer Sedee Keita

South Carolina transfer Sedee Keita committed to St. John's during a visit on Sunday, sources told ZAGSBLOG.

The 6-foot-9, 240-pound Philadelphia native averaged 1.1 points and 2.0 rebounds for a Gamecocks team that reached the Final Four.

Sources said Keita is interested in playing closer to home.

St. John's previously added Quinnipiac transfer Mikey Dixon and Brewster (N.H.) Academy wing Sid Wilson in their 2017 recruiting class

Zach B: "Not a surprise Matt A. was point man on Sedee Keita. Coming up big lately. Dixon, Wilson, Keita. Not a bad spring". #sjubb

funny Keita was saying on his Twitter recently how he hated the GS Warriors. Mullin, Richmond, St. Jean...

Excellent roster balance in 2018-19
We should only hope that everyone on that grid will still be here then
If you believe that, I have some swamp land to sell you in New Jersey

Awesome news.

So in 2018 we add Diakite (4 yrs), Dixon (3yrs) and Keita (3 years). A stretch forward, a guard and a big. I love it. As of NOW we have 2 ships left for the 18 class. Let's get two studs!

St. John's now has one open scholarship for next year. Was told they're not necessarily done. #sjubb

Bet on a transfer in that mix

Funny how we were told we were done recruiting a while ago and since then we have already gotten 2 players and are now told we are not necessary done. Will wonders never cease? Oh, that's right, recruiting is fluid. Not that there is anything wrong with that. :)

What has impressed me most as of late is the staff's ability to bounce back and prepare for the future.
At seasons end our greatest concern was that our dynamic freshman point guard Lovett was leaving for $$$. Thank g d he stayed but in preparation for what may transpire in a year from now staff went out and got a very good pg transfer in Dixon. Maybe Lovett will leave in a year from now , maybe Federico , but either way we should have a deep and talented back court in 2017 and 2018.
Staff has followed Naz Reid from day 1 , gave it their all but unfortunately did not make the cut. 3 weeks later they get a commitment from Keïta. Is he the same talent level as Reid, no I am not saying he is, but he will have two years of division 1 ball before he takes the floor for us in 2018 and g d willing gives us 3 productive seasons while Reid will spend but a brief time in college. Again not the same talent level but a very good concilation prize who may prove better for us in the long run.
Congrats to the staff on this very good pickup and excellent planning.

I would imagine they only add if Mussini leaves or something amazing come along.

This is a great pick up regardless of the questionable stats. Important for Kassoum Yakwe to play against this type of physical kid in practices in a year without a natural 5. Never believed we were done with recruiting because as long as you have an open scholarship you keep recruiting. Hopefully we will do better with Sedee than with our previous Philly kids.

In addition, we will have both Owens and another big playing together. Should help us at the center position a ton depth-wise.
