Tough question….. of those who can, who stays?

Luis coming back healthy would be huge. He has been injured all year. Practicing helps reinforce fundamentals.
He has all the tools to be really good, just needs to work on handle and play smarter on defense.
And seeing his teammates vs 1 on 1 for 90 feet, and has to develop outside shot

Potential but we are in trouble next year if he's not the 3rd or 4th best player

RSNC, Luis shot 35% from three last year (same as Jenkins this year) on bigger sample size. He's never going to be a sniper from three but believe he is much better than he has shown this year. I've been as critical as anyone on his tendency to put his head down on offense and ignore the passing option and lazy defense but there is no question this kid is very talented (passes my eye test for sure) and Pitino is clearly high on his potential. To me, it's all about whether he makes the commitment to be a team player with RP pushing him in that direction.
If he makes that commitment and can stay healthy, I'd be OK if he was our third best player next year. If he's not ready to make that commitment, expect we'll see him playing somewhere else next year.

“But fortunately for us, we’ve got Zuby [Ejiofor] and Brady [Dunlap] and Sim [Wilcher] and Glenn [Taylor] who are all going to come back and love St. John’s and love playing in this environment. But it’s difficult on everybody and I don’t like it personally at all. I just think it’s not the game I’ve cherished for so, so long.”

Those 4 mentioned by Pitino, 3 high school recruits and 3/4/5 quality players from portal and that is your 2024-2025 Red Storm.

Think CRP would prefer 9/10 man rotation at most next year

I'm a little baffled here: we had our best game of the season with no contribution from Luis. Actually, his biggest contribution was being on the bench most of the game. Yet I keep hearing how we NEED him if we're going to have any success against Butler and for the rest of the season. No, we don't.

During our best stretch of the season (the three game winning streak against Butler/Nova/Providence), he averaged 20 minutes, 12 points/6 rebounds on 40% FG and 75% FT on 5 attempts per game (and only 1 turnover averaged!).

I'd say he was a pretty valuable contributor in our wins, as well as some of the games we should've won (@ Creighton, vs. Marquette, @ Providence)

I don't understand why people need to insist that he isn't a talented player or doesn't contribute to winning. It's just not true.

I haven't heard too many people here say that he doesn't have some talent, although I'm clearly in the small group who doesn't think that he was nearly as much talent as the majority do.

As for those stats, that's all good and well(although 40% FG ain't something to brag about) but the fact of the matter is that the large majority of the time he's been on the court, his play has left a lot to be desired. Anyone who has watched basketball to any degree, can see that.

Furthermore, the kid has not refined or improved his game one iota from when he first played till now. Doesn't mean he won't at some point, it just hasn't happened yet.

Kid still has time, although not much this season, but he needs to have an epiphany. We'll see if it happens.

I think the issue is that he is both our most talented player and (at least at present) our most flawed. I hope he stays and I hope he learns to play under more control next year.

There's absolutely multiple people here that have said "where's the talent? what am I missing? is he actually athletic?"

I'm not going to argue that he's not frustrating. But he absolutely makes winning plays and has helped us in crucial moments of games. I don't think we're better off without him on the team. We're better off with him playing well and under control, like he was in January.

Cut him some slack. He hasn’t been able to practice. He has a lot of tools to be be a really good player. He needs some refining. Pitno says he has tremendous potential.
Pitno has been honest about what he thinks and sees. Much to the chagrin of the board sometimes.

I can't speak for anyone else, but what I've said is to show me anything that Luis does very well. I'm not talking about occasionally very well, I'm talking about consistently very well.

And of course we're better off with him playing well and under control. But the problem is that he has played not well and not under control much more often than not. If he had, he'd be playing a lot more and we'd be in a much better position for making the tournament.

Cherry picking a few good games or moments over the course of a season does not change the fact that he has been a huge disappointment.
