Time To Man Up Posters-The Line Forms Here

There were plenty of naysayers on this board. Early on, the question asked was whether this team would make the tournament. Plenty, including me, said no way. Deeper into the season, maybe after the poor conference start, the question was asked again. And the answer was no way from some more posters, including me. I underestimated this team's will to win, to bounce back, and to deal with adversity like suspensions, missing players, and banged up players who could not, and would not, rest.

So man up and post if you were on the wrong side of this one. If you were a believer and put that opinion on the board, feel free to take your bows. Marillac and others believed, and put up with some crap for doing so. One or more posters said early on that our 3 guard lineup could create match up problems, and not just be victimized by them. They were right, some of us were wrong. Credit has to be given to the team and coaching staff. This was not an easy path.

I'll take a bow. Which just goes to show one need not have faith in the coach to have faith in the team.

Didn't make any prediction posts but no I didn't think we would make the T actually thought we would fall far short and it had nothing to do with Lavin it was the lack of a front line, ie. rebounding and inside scoring. So yes I think they overachieved this season. Thought we would have a much better season last year with two big forwards, and basically everyone we had this year. Anyone hear Lavin on The Red Storm Report say he thinks we are ahead of schedule. Guess he meant it in terms of getting rid of him because next year looks like we would be 5 years behind schedule.

I'll bite. I didn't think the team would get to the tournament. I didn't think they had the depth, health or consistency to make the run needed after falling to 3-6 in conference. Even though I felt we could get in at 9-9, i still didn't think it would happen. I was wrong. I'm glad I was. I'm happy that D'Lo will get to play in an NCAA Tournament game. It would have been criminal for him to miss this after all the heart and growth he has shown during his time here.

I didnt think it was possible I just didn't spout it every time I wrote something here. Weatherman shouldn't have even posted on this thread because he is one of the most even keeled normal dudes you will meet. And more importn;y weatherman rooted every game for them to succeed, I saw it. He sat next to me. You will find very passionate friends in our section

Couldn't have said it better.

Ditto, well said

predicted 18 - 13, with usual turmoil, injuries, suspensions etc, and a first round knock out in NIT

Crow parmegian is in the oven. Now, lets go get SDSU and then the Dookies.

Well said!
I had them going to the NIT and also said at the time our lack of depth and inconsistent play would lead to no NCAA bid. Although coach Lavin was never my coach of choice from day one because he had been away from coaching too many years once here I backed him 100%. I even empathized with him his second year when he fell ill. I knew that would set us back as the loss of what would have been a major force in our front court was lost to rumors. His record the past three years in terms of winning record have been acceptable regardless of inflated salaries. Where he has fallen far short is in the recruiting process and that is where he will be judged the hardest. He has been a good mentor to the players and D'Angelo Harrison, who you mention, owes his 2,000 point career to Lavin for his tough love. For all the disappointment we as fans have experienced with player suspensions and players with personal growth issues like Harrison, Jordan, Obekpa and Pointer, the biggest responsibility for a coach is that of teacher to young men. Only time will tell what his players will say of Lavin in that regard. I am happy for these seniors but it would be naive of me to think that their coach gets no credit at the end of the day.
All programs and fans expect great things with every new coach hired and every program issues the same press release when a coach is fired, e.g., he did not win enough games and the future success of the program was in doubt. We will soon find out what the St. John's press release says about coach Lavin.

SJU and the Big East as a whole exceeded the expectations i had at the beginning of the season.

With that said, i am still more worried about the future...

This is a fan board about a basketball team, not a confessional. I think there were ample threads and posts.about the teams success, ackowledging their overachievement by almost every regular poster. Yes, there were negative posts about the teams performance duriing our losing streaks and rightfully so, this is a fan board and posters are passionate or they wouldn't be here. Anyway, I never predict because I think it is silly and goes against the very essence of sport which is that you NEVER know what is going to happen. So yes, Marillac was more right than wrong this year but last year he posted essentially the same optimistic posts and he was wrong. So what, he doesn't know what is going to happen any more than anyone does but he likes to predict and that comes under the no harm, no foul rule as far as I am concerned; he should predict away if he is so inclined. But people keep confusing the teams performance this year with the state of the program and they are two entirely different things. So asking for people to "man up" because they were wrong in their outlook before the season began is as unneccessary to me as many think the "Next Coach" thread is.

I didn't think they would make the tournament and they did. I'm happy for that and I hope they can at least win a game. But, in light of recent events I do not like the direction that this program seems to be headed in. Of course, that all changes if CO cleans up his act and him and Rysheed come back along with a good recruiting class. All that remains to be seen.

"This is a fan board about a basketball team, not a confessional"

Well your quasi religious reference contradicts what most do here.

Definition of Pontificate:
"express one's opinions in a way considered annoyingly pompous and dogmatic"

All along I've maintained we'd be on or close to the bubble. I didn't give up hope and was vocal about it, and was the first to preach one game at a time here.

Even at 3-6, and 0-3, I posted that it wasn't as bad as it seemed because of the home and homes. I was right about that.

I was certainly correct about there being highs and lows, and preaching evenness as fans.

I won't say I predicted a bid, because prognostications in sports are often just plain stupid. But I did know what I was watching even in losses, and for the most part it was good basketball. I honestly don't know how some of you can enjoy sports when you are a fan of a good team with a dozen losses when each loss cause you some anger and mood-swing reactions about the substance and quality of a team.

This is a good team, nothing more, nothing less. I don't need to list their strengths and weaknesses, because they are obvious. But for the most part they are enjoyable, they've done well enough, and I was confident that they'd do well - the well enough part was within range, but not certain.

Beast,
On the money about anger and mood swing reactions. A lot of angry dudes here taking themselves way too seriously. Let's chill out and stop taking every word and blurb out of context. I for one m taking the rest of the day off and am going to relax with a few drinks and some great comedy CD's by the Weasles.

I'm a generally optimistic person but I thought no way we would make the tournament after our poor 2015 start and the injuries. Around the time of the second Butler loss I remember stating here 15% chance. Of course it took a miracle run (7 of 8 I think) to do it but the team did and they deserve a lot of credit.

Once again I feel no way we'll do any damage in the tournament with our roster and how we've been playing the last 2 games. Hopefully I'm wrong again.
