The Recognition Has Started

Even Canada's team has some opinions about us. They sound a bit bitter surprise surprise

The sad thing is many of the comments on that board are correct. Being good once every few years does not make you NY's college basketball team....

"Jumbo Peanuts", when I read your posts, I find myself wondering if you are really a fan of St Johns basketball. I am all about enjoying what is going on right now. I can't change the past but I CAN Root like hell for this team.
What someone is posting on Syracuse boards about the past is totally irrelevant as to what is happening right now. We whipped their ass at the DOME!!!! FACTZ

The Johnny crowd was a noticeable improvement over the NIT showing. The numbers are not yet there. By the end of the year, this team will be pulling in good size crowds and the average will be higher than we've seen since the our last BE championship team.

Agreed.

Student sections did a nice job yesterday. Numbers not all the away there yet, but a nice turnout for a Sunday game v. Fordham around final exams, and they were into it. I would anticipate those sections being packed for our big league games. Makes a big difference when the sections behind both baskets are full and rocking.

Students that are local will hopefully come out in full force for the Butler, Villanova & Marquette games. Unfortunately school is on break for our first 3 home conference games.

I don't get why people use the schedule as an excuse for not coming out. Minnesota, Gonzaga, St. Mary's, and even Long Beach State are better than our schedule last year. Last year our only "big" non conference game at home was Syracuse. Unless you count Penn St & Georgia Tech which were "neutral games" at Barclays & both teams were lousy (and we lost one of those games lol), Plus we also have Duke on the schedule. For me it's always been about St. John's, not the opponent.

Games at MSG.

I like the schedule. But to draw a huge turnout vs Fordham at MSG is not going to happen. And let's not talk about games at CA.

The invitational tourneys at MSG and Barclays proves that you can get a decent crowd there for 2 good teams.

But for him to try and put other factors such as college football as the reason for low turnouts is bogus.

He should look no further than at the AD and our marketing department. Let's just stop with the excuses.

If we want 3/4 of our student body, scores of alumni, high school programs and tourists in MSG, there are numerous ways of making it happen. We provide zero incentives for that to happen so we should look in the mirror and not pin it on other sports or leagues.

The Knicks tickets are probably double SJU tickets and they're nearly a sellout every game.

I hope our new president gets sick to his stomach witnessing this and totally revamps our internal departments.

Are the 4 schools in the holiday festival forced to take tickets? I was checking on Stubhub right up until the start of the game and there was very little inventory.

I am a huge fan...you don't need to worry about that.

But to your point, the past is 100% relevant to what is happening now. What is happening now is a direct result of what happened in the past.

Also, in your reference to the Syracuse game this year.....it was a 3pt game with a minute and a half to go. I wouldn't necessarily call that "ass whipping." Looking at the past 10yrs, who would you rather be? Syracuse, who has one bad year every 4-5yrs maybe....or us, who have 1 good year every 4-5yrs.

Like I said, I am a huge fan of St Johns. But I am also a realist too. So I apologize if I am not ready to name St Johns the kings of new york just quite yet.

Who gives a crap about the "State of New York "!? It is about NYC. May Syracuse enjoy a long downhill ride on Tobacco Road.

I agree with you and suggest we give Syracuse and its fans the Finger . . . . Lakes region that is, as well as the rest of Podunk. ;)

For the second week in a row, Syracuse has not been ranked in the top 25 and have received zero votes . If they keep going on this path, they may not be considered a "resume-building" win for us, or any other team.

Hard to disagree that they are down this year and our win might be bit diminished but beating that crowd in their football stadium (even if only in checkers) is always something to crow about.

Too bad we will have to wait until we meet in the Big Dance to unload on UConn. Then all the "noisy neighbors" will be quietened.

They sweated out La Tech 71-69 at the Dome lol. Avg at best.
Villanova should smoke em by 20.

So here's a question:

Do we want cuse to beat nova??

Yes. We want Cuse to beat Nova and be ranked. Nova is just so strong that they can afford to drop a game or 2 to the likes of Cuse.

Why do we want them ranked? To hell with them.
We'll be in the tourny wheather cuse is ranked or not.
Just chill, lounge on the couch with your feet up, and enjoy Fridays smackdown.
RELAX. we got this under control.

I don't know. The big east is tough. I wouldn't be shocked if we go 12-6 and I wouldn't be shocked if we pull a 9-9. So it would be convenient if Syracuse gets ranked so our win looks even better to help our case.

Exactly. If we are on the bubble again (and I'm not saying we will be, it's just impossible to say right now) having a road win against a ranked opponent will be invaluable come selection time.

How about 14-4 in the B.E.? To go along with 11 OOC wins.
That's no bubble, plus getting to the B.E. finals atleast.

We want Nova beating the Cuse because we will play Nova twice, possibly three times and the BE Conference RPI would be stronger if Nova wins.

If Nova beats Cuse and Cuse remains unranked, then will it really help the RPI that much? And what if we lose twice to Nova? It's all hypothetical at this point, of course, but I'd rather take the road win that's in the bag already and have it count for as much as possible.

Yea that's a scenario too. I just don't wanna get too crazy. Our best win is Syracuse and they aren't looking good right now. I know it is easy to get really excited but I don't wanna freak out yet. Don't underestimate the level of competition we will be seeing this year in conference play. We are ranked right now but it is a long way to even make the tournament.

A Syracuse win against nova will make our win look better, and Nova RPI wouldn't be as strong if they lost but it would still be top notch.

No.

You don't root for teams to lose OOC games.

You pull for Nova to beat Cuse and then hope Cuse picks up quality ACC wins down the road.

The BE needs Nova to be ranked as high as possible.
