The Recognition Has Started

It hasn't translated to higher attendance yet. A reporter asked lavin a question about the attendance and he stated that he doesn't expect the city to pay attention until January.

Would really like to see CA sold out for this big game on Friday night. Unfortunately, the 7 pm start time just opens it up for the people who work in Manhattan to arrive late.

People are aware of the basketball team's success because the Knicks, Nets, Giants and Jets all suck.

Schedule a school tougher than Fordham or LIU and people will show up.

Lack of attendance has nothing to do with what he tried to make it out to be.

The Johnny crowd was a noticeable improvement over the NIT showing. The numbers are not yet there. By the end of the year, this team will be pulling in good size crowds and the average will be higher than we've seen since the our last BE championship team.

Yup. But I think he hinted at that with his January comment? Idk, still a crap schedule, especially with a weaker BE conference (generally speaking, well aware of the current OOC BE win %)

Maybe this means there will be alot of new gear becoming available!

And this message board will get flooded with newbies, hangers-on and band wagoners... I am outta here until we lose a game or two and this place returns to its normal miserable self.

:) :cheer: ;) :p

Don't say that unless you are willing to wait until February, and yes that includes the Duke game.

I don't get why people use the schedule as an excuse for not coming out. Minnesota, Gonzaga, St. Mary's, and even Long Beach State are better than our schedule last year. Last year our only "big" non conference game at home was Syracuse. Unless you count Penn St & Georgia Tech which were "neutral games" at Barclays & both teams were lousy (and we lost one of those games lol), Plus we also have Duke on the schedule. For me it's always been about St. John's, not the opponent.

One of my favorites coming to LB St game;

@MoeHatten: St. John's game on the 22nd

I know i am getting ahead of myself, but its hard not to be excited with what we have seen so far....

Win the rest of the OOC games and the first two BE games (at Seton Hall and vs. Butler) and we are looking at a Top 15 (maybe Top 10) Ranking entering the game vs Villanova at MSG.

Agreed.

Student sections did a nice job yesterday. Numbers not all the away there yet, but a nice turnout for a Sunday game v. Fordham around final exams, and they were into it. I would anticipate those sections being packed for our big league games. Makes a big difference when the sections behind both baskets are full and rocking.

Agree 100%.

Really think St. Mary's and LBSU are massive games. Games we should win but both are teams very capably of beating us and will be revved up for an East Coast trip. If we can clear those 2-0, we could really make a move in the polls 2 Mondays from now just by virtue of others falling off.

I agree that they are massive games, however, with the body of work so far, we absolutely 100% should beat these teams. It may not be easy but to lose to them would be very very bad based on what we have seen so far. Syracuse and minnesota are both better than these two teams and if we bring our "a game" we will be fine.

Even Canada's team has some opinions about us. They sound a bit bitter surprise surprise :lol:

The sad thing is many of the comments on that board are correct. Being good once every few years does not make you NY's college basketball team....

Who gives a crap about the "State of New York "!? It is about NYC. May Syracuse enjoy a long downhill ride on Tobacco Road.
