The NCAA Tournament Thread

Local guy Mike O’Connell is not a shooter, but is a team first distributor really helping NC State. Had six assists and five rebounds in 37 minutes yesterday and playing well down the stretch

I am not very surprised by this. The NCAA, for their own reasons, now consider games played in November the same as a conference tournament final. Which is crazy and dumb and so of course they do. These teams are playing their best ball of the season right now, nothing wild about them beating the teams they were matched up against. A surprise would have been Virgina advancing. They have been awful since the calendar changed from 2023 to 2024.

Aztecs have a tough stylistic matchup with UAB today. They can’t score but defend extremely well. UAB can score, draw fouls, and play fast with Gaines and Yaxel.

Matchups make fights as they say.
Was literally just telling one of my partners at work today that’s my game of the day that I want to see

I am so jaded that I think the NCAA will flip back to “who is playing their best” if that is the criteria they need to get a certain school a bid.

I hate to hate on Yaxel but I’m not impressed by teams who make the tournament by beating teams who have a financial interest in losing.

I expect this to be his last game with UAB.

Charleston/Alabama - This one is on my radar. The SEC has shown us who they are already. And Bama has been shaky all year to me. This Alabama team has 11 losses. They went 21-11 this year. Does that really scream "4 seed" to you? This team is overseeded, plays bad defense, and is going against a solid opponent in Charleston. I expect this game to at least be close

I forgot Charleston is in the dance. I'll tune into that one as well.

NCAA has totally screwed up college athletics.
Tournament teams need to be the result of transparent metrics that can be followed throughout the season. No more Sunday night surprises to be broadcast on CBS. The only thing that they should have a say in is the venue in which a team plays.

Storr has pull n tee of athleticism see some of his put back dunks and blocks this season.
It was a comparison of Luis and Storr . I think Luis might be more Athletic than Storr but , that doesn’t mean Storr doesn’t have athleticism.

If it was understood differently this a better comparison . Plus , Luis is taller by a few inches .

Who’s better ? That’s a question in itself .

Can't wait for BAMA to get bounced. They were overrated the entire season.

Couldn't happen to a bigger contingent of scum. Truly loathe that program and all it represents.

Always nice to see Calipari take the L and with him and Kentucky. I wonder if they eat the 33 million and hire Jay Wright or just ride it out.

Other notes- Mountain West is a joke- we would have smoked any of those underserving tournament teams. If Creighton/Marquette make a stronger showing then expected this Big East debate should be over. I also hope they don't bring back the head of the committee that made these ridiculous assessments. The damage he has done cannot be remedied.

I hope Rick starts jumping on to this portal. NIT may have been nice send off but I guess there are prep time interests and timing. Or team may have just opted out.

My worry is- we (Big East fans) have been rooting in a vacuum that the rest of the Country doesn't see (not sure how with the past Champs) or they are actively anti-nonFootball schools... dunno... but this year's selection should be a Wake up call.

Stating the obvious here... but only way to ensure inclusion next year- make sure they Can't* leave us out... Win the Bahamas tourney... get another BIG OOC win... be top 3 in the Conf... and stay ranked for a majority of the season. Otherwise- we might be sweating next year with delusional hopes again...
