Said it all in one sentence.

Mullin is our coach and will be next year.

Mullin's biggest task will be to keep all players not named Ponds on campus next year. I don't foresee any reinforcements coming.

The AD's biggest task will be to convince Mullin to get rid of MR and get an X's and O's assistant. Second biggest task is to keep Matt.

I'll win and build the new Mike Zaun Arena!
I'm totally for you winning if that's the plan. We will have the cushiest seats in the country, with recliners and massagers

Great splash of cold reality in the face, fuchsia.
Thanks man.
... Teams like nova get multiple wins in the tournament every year, but we can't get one in 18years. I guess people are at the point where they don't care who it is, just get us back to the point where we can hold our heads high, and can say: " yeah, you're damn right I'm a REDMEN fan, and we are pretty damn good." ...
Thank you, Stuart Smalley.
People recommending Pitino should be referred to the fable about the scorpion and the frog.[/quote. RIGHT there is example A of why this program has been rock bottom since 2003! Make excuses instead of excellence! Its why everybody basically stopped putting up money!! Why not Pitino? He would come without a doubt! And we would win! It would be a win-win for the school and for Pitino legacy!! If the Pope can forgive him why do people keep bringing up his past? Doesnt our bible teach us forgiveness? Keep posting negativity and we will be in the A 10 if they take us in no time! We are at a cross roads!!

The A10 is not right for me but it may be good for us. The Big East is 'dead man walking' based on our collective 20+ point losses in this tourney and the lack of a force in NYC makes that future even worse. What do you say to 1 or 2 bids next year?
Pitino is not the answer. He is another celebrity name coach to follow several celebrity name coaches. Yeah he has won and he adores NYC and the Garden but the luggage is not ours to carry. Nobody knew Lapchick, Lou, or Mulzoff, when they got the call but all three had instincts and knew the game. They learned in place. No matter whom we get, we are lost for the next two years or more so it might be wise to get a working stiff . This tourney has been full of them and many have made super showings.
Were going to eat dirt through 2023 so why not give a guy a chance. As an off the wall suggestion, I'd get Fraschilla back as he knew how to coach and recruit. If it doesn't work out this time, there is always the A10 if they will have us.

What am I even reading? These posts are insane. We are not going to the A10 (everyone besides the A10 would lose in that scenario), and the Big East will be just fine. Despite a down year (as predicted), we still had the highest attended conference tournament and sent 4 teams to the Dance (more than the Pac and same number as the Big Ten last year). Nova won it all 2 of the last 3 years and the one year we lay an egg people freak out. Next year will be a better year.

Seriously, this site has gotten too dumb to read over the past week. Suggesting the A10 should be bannable. It seems like trolling and not genuine discussion.

There is a big difference between forgiveness and expecting people to behave differently than they have always behaved. We have no evidence of Pitino changing; i.e. great coach who if his characterometer breaks down would be connected to our Catholic university in the middle of the biggest media center in the world.

I agree with everything except "we have to keep Matt". Maybe is it time for a change. It would be nice to recruit some non-transfers for a change. Sometimes necessity can fix something that you would not otherwise fix. Also, just like Matt has some recruits in his bag, a replacement would surely have some in his. Hoping we can make some big staff changes and build a more balance roster.

My theory on Matt and the transfers (aside from the fact he’s had success with them) is that these kids don’t have the luxury of being patient and ultra selective. They are usually looking to make a quick decision (at least compared to HS recruits). Matt pounces and it doesn’t take as much time/effort from Mullin. Where as HS kids need to be constantly monitored and a long lasting relationship built between the player, assistant and vert importantly the Head coach. With what seems like a close to completely hands off approach from CM, my guess is Matt doesn’t think he can convince the HS kids to commit without much presence from CM. And please everyone spare me with the “well then CM needs to get out and recruit”, I get it and ageee.

If that is the case and CM does not want to put in the work than there lies the problem. Transfers are nice to plug in as needed but you want to build the core of your team via HS recruits, so they can grow and get better. As some players graduate than others are ready to step in and take their place. If CM's philosophy is to be hands off on recruiting than I am for ending this experiment sooner rather than later.

If CM can change and be a bigger part in recruiting perhaps this can still work. My guess is we will have a year to find out and then we move in a new direction. AGAIN!

Whatever happens is completely out of our control.
I haven't read the JJ board in weeks until today and was mortified by the vicious attacks by a couple of posters here on Paultzman and Fordham. How Dave tolerates it is beyond me. In the past it was clear that sarcasm was a part of the game until folks started to take things too personal. I've basically abandoned that approach. I recommend a couple of posters here do the same.
We are not debating the rise and fall of Duke, Kentucky or Kansas here. If we keep it realistic our aspirations and discussion will not border on sociopathic levels.
Finally, no one thinks things will remain the same so find some comfort in the thought that soon everyone will have new material to digest before we turn on each other.

And the worst part is the vicious attacks were led by one of our own on this board who also happens to post over there. What a disgrace.

I'd never read the Johnny Jungle board before I saw Class of 72's post. What an absolute cesspool...Makes me appreciate this site even more!

Actually JJ is a often a cleaner site. The freedom of speech allows us to move on quickly from disputes instead of letting them linger, and there is no special treatment. All comments are about the poster and not the person behind it.

“All comments are about the poster not the person behind it.”

I looked at JJ for two minutes and saw this being said about Paultzman:

“You have described Putzman correctly. I think he probably sits in his Mothers basement searching the internet all day for St. John's related stories.”

Yea not personal at all.

Can you stop this act, that you’re this guy who looks at all these posters taking St. John’s basketball too seriously, shaking your head from above.

You take it so seriously that you posted you were “in the process of removing your affiliation with the program” after we lost a road game to Villanova this year!

Get off the high horse. You aren’t some level headed guy overseeing the madness on here. You PM’d me trying to physically fight me after I hurt your feelings on here once.

A lot of people take St. John’s basketball very seriously and you are one of them. And there is nothing wrong with that. Sure the conversation can a little out of hand and overly emotional sometimes, but don’t pretend to be the guy who claims they watch the madness from the sidelines when youre in the game shooting 3s. Stop trolling

Fans of irony, once again, please take note.
Thanks for the personal insults, Jack.

I can’t speak for the poster you referenced but it seemed like a blatant joke to me. I don’t know what Delaware is like but in NY we grew up busting each other’s balls. Paultz is obviously not a teenager living in his mom’s basement...he’s made it clear that he’s retired. You’re in freaking college man, RELAX. Go get laid.

I’ve met dozens of guys who post here in person and I liked them all even if I disliked them as a poster prior. I don’t think any of them would say a bad word about me as a person (different story as a poster). Within an hour we were doing shots and busting each other’s balls.

It’s true, I like to troll. At the height of my posting I was averaging one fight challenge a month from posters. It was hysterical to me. I’ve made no secret of this and have posted it dozens of times. I even asked Paul if he could delete the handle Marillac so I could post seriously. My best friend is a six year old who I’ve never even raised my voice around. I am a volunteer on the advisory board of one of the largest children’s charities in the world. I get all my inmmaturity out between this and my fantasy leagues and group chats with friends You would probably be very disappointed meeting me in person if you think I’m like the hulk real life.

I’m very relaxed. Listen, sounds like you’ve been on message boards for a long time, so let me explain that me challenging you in my post above doesn’t mean I’m over here hyperventilating waiting for your response. It’s a simple back and forth.

I love writing and sparring back and forth with posters, especially ones who I think are trolling, it’s fun for me. I’m sitting in a 3 hour night class on a Thursday, I got nothing better to do. Philosophy is boring. Challenging marillac for being a troll, little less boring.

Back in high school I used to look forward to whatever trash “jumbo peanuts” was gonna post on here, because I looked forward to dispelling it paragraph by paragraph. Again, i enjoy it.

So I’m very relaxed. But I think this new persona you’re trying to push the past couple days is BS, and I’m gonna say so. As for what happened on JJ just being “busting balls”, that’s fine if you think that. But Dave, the head of that site, didn’t seem to think it was that playful, posting in the thread himself that he thought the posts were pretty lame.

I’ve disagreed with your posts in the past and picked up on some of your trolling too. And it’s all good. But I’m gonna call you on trying to be the coach from bad news bears. You know, when he tells the girl, Amanda that he doesn’t wanna spend time with her, yet he secretly loves her like a daughter.

You love St. John’s basketball and these boards and you’d never leave. As much as your threaten that you will. You live for this just as much as anyone. Even if it’s amateur athletics like you say, you care just as much as every emotional poster thats been on these boards the past few days. Don’t pretend you don’t. And that’s all.

P.S - if this board was keeping me from getting laid I wouldn’t be on it lmao. It’s worked out fine for me for 3 years and will continue to, don’t worry bout me champ :)
