"Thank you" Mike Repole

All of us on here want the program to be a success and have suffered through 25 plus years of mediocrity at best. That's our perspective. Somehow I don't think that Gempesaw, Oliva and the BOTs have that same perspective. Agree or disagree, they look at the overall picture. Maybe you don't think they're doing a good job overall and I don't know enough to form an opinion.

Repole's rant yesterday was from his perspective and skewed primarily toward the basketball program. Many of you agree with him, and to an extent I do as well, but overall I don't feel this did any good

Who on here realistically believes Gempesaw, Oliva and the BOTs are going to step down because Repole went on the radio and ripped them a new one?

As section 9 writes unfortunately nothing will change except Repole will be banished to Siberia as far as the SJU basketball program is concerned.
Some day in the future there will be a new president and maybe not too far in the future the way things are being run at SJU and the new president's first move should be to install Repole in a position of importance.
I suppose the current president would not approve of hanging a Mike Repole banner at CA prior to next season. That would guarantee a sell out.

From the interview the Law and Business dean are not thrilled with the president and BOD and not getting the support required. As much as I love the redmen, that is more important. Get rid of the bums.

This might be a good time for me to fulfill my dream goal and become a walk on. I assume the way things are they would allow former alumni to try out:)

This embarrassing coaching search shows the futility of having very successful people in their fields, finance, justice etc. make important decision involving their institution in matters they have no expertise at all, in fact seem to be as dumb as rocks.

I agree. Thank you Mike Repole, for saying what needed to be said. As someone else said, "Sunlight is the best disinfectant" To watch a school which I gave four years of my life, and thousands of my father's and my dollars to, (Worked in the fundraising department as a student as well,) It is beyond depressing to see how small we look. Instead of the school that President Regan visited, that sits in the greatest city in the world, we have been reduced to such a small time, Podunk operation that is not only frustrating, but extremely maddening! Unaccountable, out of touch, meddling "leadership" running this program and school into the ground on purpose. The world's longest suicide note indeed. We deserve to be demoted to the MAAC.

You people are 100% wrong, the people will always have the power. If they don't care, then if the students walk out, and the professors all unite and strike until chang.yeah still be in charge, in charge of an empty school.
Now i know that's not gonna happen, but my point is, if everyone really wanted charge, then they better be willing to do whatever it takes to get the change that they want.
Dont ever let anyone ever tell you change isn't possible, but you gotta be willing to sacrifice.

Do you honestly believe that the students and professors are going to walk out because of a fiasco in the hiring process for our next basketball coach? Do you think they care? The vast, vast majority of the people you're talking about don't give a rat's ass about SJU sports in general and Bball in particular. They're not going to jepordize their jobs or education because of what's happened in the last two weeks.

I guess you missed the part where I said: " I know that's not gonna happen"
Of course they dont care, there's no school pride with half of them.
Maybe the school deserves to be kicked out of the b.e.

This entire mess is bringing out the worst in many of us, a basketball Pandora’s Box:
a process that generates many complicated problems as the result of unwise interference in something.

How apt - the President and his sidekick
Mr. Oliva and their extremely unwise interference!

Wow. What a trying time for anyone who cares about St. John’s and it’s basketball program. As has been posted, a successful basketball program brings positive publicity, more students, more revenue, better morale.
It affects the entire SJU Universe not just sports.
All the best.

So far this sounds like a good hire. Especially if they bring in a top notch staff. However, I want to know if Mike Repole is happy with the choice.

Mike,
I don't know if you read our board or not, but I want to thank you for appearing on the radio and telling it the way it is. What you said I believe, was on the minds of many fans that simply couldn't find their voice.
A lot has gone on at SJU since you went on the radio. I am sure you had an effect on both the program and the fan base. I once again want to thank you.

Our “yes men” win an award[/quote]

Our "yes men" had the collective strength to remove Harrington from the school, something unprecedented at St. John's in terms of a BOT being the catalyst to remove a Vincentian priest from leadership. You are likely unaware that in smaller schools in remote places, the board of trustees often have had little of the enormous career success that many of our lay board (SJU alums) have had. Many of them have risen to the very top of some of the largest and most prestigious corporations in the world. To call them yes men is just idiotic.

If you want to take reasonable shots at Gempeshaw, at least don't be ignorant and myopic, like Repole. I've heard from several SJU administrators that top notch academics like Norean Sharpe and Katerina Paserini would not have come to St. John's except for the deep respect they had for Gempeshaw. This is helping to transform the university into a school that superior students will attend.

For the record, spoke to some decision makers at SJU last night, who expressed that the decision to hire Anderson was very far along when Repole went on his rant. So thank him all you want, but because of it, we will likely not being seeing Repole or his money around SJU for a very long time, if ever again.
