Thank You and Good Luck Sim

Relax man it was in reference to the entire thread. I believe it was you who said “yeah I just don’t know what it is about this team, but I find them hard to root for.” Maybe not verbatim but pretty sure that was your sentiment halfway through a HISTORICAL season. Let’s not cast dispersions, when you point a finger there’s 3 pointing right back at you!
I'm impressed that post stuck with you. I actually said I was having a hard time getting into the team because it was half brand new players, they didn't seem to be gelling as a unit, and there were rumors of internal tension. I also made a post about a month later saying that I had noticed a massive change and it appeared the players bonded, so it was easier to get behind them.

Zach on Sim:

"I really gave my all and I was super proud to be part of Coach Pitino's first class to rejuvenate the program. I'm extremely proud and I'm happy I could be a part of such a great thing. I love the fans and I love everybody that I've met through these last two years. Those relationships are something I will cherish for the rest of my life."

He is wide open in his recruitment. Staying close to home not a factor, he said.
Moose posting his good numbers against Xavier and Miller playing PG in college make it seem like Texas is a good spot, even though Miller looks like a fat pud these days.

Yes, yes a thousand times yes. These “kids” are now professional athletes playing in a wide open free agency system with almost ZERO rules. Anybody remember AJ Storr. Kid played for SJU, Wisconsin, Kansas and will end his career at Ole Miss. Yup, that’s 4 schools in 4 years!

You can love it, like it or leave it but THIS is the NEW system and it’s more corrupt than the old system. My guess is the whole thing will collapse at some point because it is making a mockery of “Education” system.
It will have to be regulated in some manner at some point. Just don’t know how or when. But, it’s obliterated the sport I loved.

SJU85, I am not sure that the courts would not uphold that arrangement under the current (semi)pro system. Tose cases, I believe were under the old amateur system. Now, it seems, guys will probably be free to negotiate whatever they can/want. If that is what they negotiate, then so be it. Maybe the NCAA would be free to impose a sit out under these circumstances. I just don't know if it's been determined if that is something that would or would not fly under this wild west system. Some means (maybe not that) needs to reign in this craziness. I am not sure the old cases would be definitive under this kind of playing field. If the NCAA can't impose a sit out under these situations, then why can they impose academic standards, class attendance or other requirements of the rules? I think that it is unknown where it winds up.
The proposed settlement includes unlimited transfers.

Ok, thanks for explaining this. Then, I’m not sure how you stem the current dynamic. As they say, once the horse is out of the barn….

Sad demise of a system that mostly worked. Instead of tweaking it to be better, they obliterated it and destroyed a very good thing. They should just get rid of the charade and separate sport from education and go with minor league basketball. To continue to have academic standards, attendance requirements or any other sham rules is ridiculous. But maybe the settlement addresses those things too.

My continued fandom is in the balance.

Ironically I have more of a chance to root for guys for two or three years on the Knicks than on St. Johns. That is the transition we are all struggling with.

Wish you luck Sim!!! Just need to learn when you make a bad play or miss a shot forget about it don’t let it linger just play your game, and don’t complain after every call. Hope wherever you end up you do well and become the complete player your capable of being!

I just dont get it. Last year was awesome as a st johns fans. Who cares if we move on from guys quickly. I just want to win and we are doing that now.

I am much more excited for Sanon, Sellers and Jackson than I am disappointed about Brady, Glover, Sim.

I mean, you guys want to go back to the mike anderson days?

I am enjoying the hell out of this!

As Sly Stone famously said different strokes for different folks. If you can't understand people's preference to root for guys for a few years at least respect it.

I understand your questioning. It’s a matter of perspective. I enjoyed winning this year after so many years of poor performance. But it wasn’t the same as it was when I first became a fan. That was even before I attended. My father attended so I became a fan when I was a kid. When I attended, it was the Mullin, Berry, Jackson, Wennington et al teams. It was amazing. Yes, Walter was a transfer in, but he was a Redman regardless. And he was here multiple years. And was expected to be here for a few years before.

I had players in my classes and I even was supposed to sit next to Reggie Carter in law school before he was drafted by the Knicks and he never became a law student.

So, my fandom is intertwined with the school and emotional attachment to the university and with developing attachments to players wearing OUR colors.

Now I know that’s quaint and outdated but for me that’s how it is. If I root for pro basketball (I do) it’s for the Knicks. To me, rooting for SJU was different. It isn’t so much any more.

I’d like nothing more than to win a national championship. As I celebrated every win this year. I’ll celebrate as hard as many will. But it’ll be different.

I know I’m in the minority. And saying my fandom is in the balance is probably an overstatement. But it’ll be different.

Sim , in my opinion will not have any trouble attracting attention from other high level teams .

Other Coaches , possibly from the BE saw him extensively this year . Miller in Texas might have seen enough to recruit Sim . Or , if not him, maybe elsewhere .

I would say this , Wilcher is not some second tier talent . He will land where he feels his best opportunity .
