Thank You and Good Luck Sim

Fair play to all with their opinions that’s what this is all about!! With that said, it’s BULLSHIT for anyone to sit here and say he wasn’t good enough to be a key player or starter.

You guys let 31 wins get to your heads you’ve forgotten the dog shit we had to watch for decades. Now all of a sudden Simeon Wilcher is surplus to requirements!? We developed him as a Frosh/Soph and now when we really could benefit from his growth he’s out the door.

If this is in response to my post, I put emotions aside, I guess you didn't. Sim could have definitely been a key player on next year's team. But by no means did he prove enough this year to have a starting spot locked up for next year. If you feel otherwise, I'd like to hear an argument why.

Relax man it was in reference to the entire thread. I believe it was you who said “yeah I just don’t know what it is about this team, but I find them hard to root for.” Maybe not verbatim but pretty sure that was your sentiment halfway through a HISTORICAL season. Let’s not cast dispersions, when you point a finger there’s 3 pointing right back at you!

Sim moving on is a result of the system the players sued for and won. Prior to the transfer portal the players transferring into SJU this year and replacing Sim would have stayed at the school they were enrolled in rather than sit out a year.
Now Sim will sign on to another school causing a player to lose his job. Pitino didn’t create this system. He is just trying to adjust to it and this is what the players wanted and got but there is a downside.
Realize that Pitino was an NBA coach and is running the Repole franchise like a professional sports team. I hope whomever comes next has the same skill sets and chops to compete in a money game environment.

We got 31 wins in a bad big east and got upset in the tourney in rnd 2.

We have bigger aspirations than that and upgrading over a shooting guard who scored 8 points a game and shot 29% from 3 in BE play was a no brainer.

I have no clue how you guys arent thrilled w/ whats going on here.

I wish Simeon well.

My last post on this. The current portal recruiting indicates to me that the staff wanted to reduce his role. And not from the starting job he inherited by injury, from his original role last year as third guard. And I will take a wild guess that the three guards/wings brought in over him were getting paid more than he would be, or else why bring them in over him? So any statement that the staff valued him and wanted to keep him, well the actions this spring showed they didn't value him all that much. He noticed, and took the hint.

Good move, bad move, that will be proven on the court. We will see what he does in his new environment. We will also see how SJU does this year. With Wilcher playing major minutes the team was a two seed. For me if the idea is guys like him were not good enough then the new hired guns need to exceed that.

That doesn't seem as easy to me as it is being portrayed and I think there is more to a winning team than just throwing together the most highly rated transfers. But I never got paid a cent to decide these things (for good reason) and Pitino is in the HOF.

In other words I am probably overly concerned and a one seed is all but ordained.

Yes, yes a thousand times yes. These “kids” are now professional athletes playing in a wide open free agency system with almost ZERO rules. Anybody remember AJ Storr. Kid played for SJU, Wisconsin, Kansas and will end his career at Ole Miss. Yup, that’s 4 schools in 4 years!

You can love it, like it or leave it but THIS is the NEW system and it’s more corrupt than the old system. My guess is the whole thing will collapse at some point because it is making a mockery of “Education” system.

what about a 6 seed that goes to the elite 8 lol. Just saying I think there's a lot of ways to view a season and us being a 2 seed or higher isnt the only way I think it will be as good or better than last years.

Understandable that there are lots of upset RedFans on here today. The best part of rooting for a team is getting to know the players and seeing them grow individually and collectively over time. I was really looking forward to seeing Sim blossom after another year of coaching from RP. This version of college hoops is getting harder and harder to embrace, but I’ll be on board for another season that should get better over time (hopefully) as we get to know the new players and see them mesh with our core.

Zach on Sim:

"I really gave my all and I was super proud to be part of Coach Pitino's first class to rejuvenate the program. I'm extremely proud and I'm happy I could be a part of such a great thing. I love the fans and I love everybody that I've met through these last two years. Those relationships are something I will cherish for the rest of my life."

He is wide open in his recruitment. Staying close to home not a factor, he said.
