Tariq Owens - article
It is interesting that many of us think Steere made a great decision transferring here, but Tariq heading to Texas Tech did not. Fandom! :)
That's different.....we're the good guys. :p

Don’t see Owens doing better at TT than he would of done here, but wish him the best. Off the top of my head, I can think of 2 kids who transferred out and really thrived elsewhere. Roshown McLoed who was completely misused by BM, and the Norm kid who went to Cleveland State and wound up getting drafted. I can’t remember his since I pretty much blocked out the Norm years. I’m sure I’m missing some players, but those 2 come to mind.

His scoring and rebounding numbers are down. What him and his father failed to realize is that since he can't create for himself, he needed players around him to set him up. We saw that last year when he started to come into his own. The guards got him the ball in spots where he was most efficient. It takes time to develop that type of chemistry. Instead of sticking around to build on last year's accomplishments, he chose to believe that he was better than he is.

Another casualty of the microwave generation.
It's important to remember that this Texas Tech squad is much better than us right now (11th on KenPom), especially last season. The numbers and MPG are obviously down but the efficiency is also up. I think W/ Owens this year we would have been an elite team, but to say this move isn't working out for him is a bit premature. Especially if Tech has a better year than us, which they are currently on course to do.
Not sure what you mean by efficiency, but his FG%, FT%, 3Pt FG%, and blocks are all lower than last year. What I was trying to point out is that I don't believe that Tariq would have transferred if he thought he would only be playing 20 minutes a game.

I appreciate what he meant to St. Johns and wish him nothing but the best in the future.
Efficiency meaning that Tariq is doing more with the minutes he's being given at Texas Tech than he ever did at St. Johns. His 40 MPG stats at Tech has shown increases in every category except assists while committing less fouls. His minutes have essentially been decreased by 33% yet all of his numbers aren't down nearly that much. Percentages may be down but the analytics say he's better this year than his last season at St. John's so far. He would not be averaging 30.3 on this years squad either.

I too wish him the best and fully expect this move to work out for him in one way or another. As long as we don't play them in March :).

So he has 1/3 less opportunities on the court.

Difference is steereinis more of a banger 260vs210 he can live near the rim or go out and shoot .He just seems more aggressive .Owens could not handle top centers Steere I think can and fits with system

Yes, exactly. Surprisingly he's playing less minutes for a squad that handily beat two quality tournament opponents in USC and Nebraska by 33 points, than a team that lost its first 11 conference games last year. How much time would TO get on this years roster?

Don’t think it was as much about the PT as it was about how he was being utilized in the offense. Having said that, I dont think he ever expected he’d be getting less PT at TT.

I think he also wanted to make sure he'd be in a position to potentially get some exposure in March.
