Tariq Owens - article

Good luck to him, I wish him well. They should have a good year and Beard is a good coach. He should thrive there playing his natural position as a 4 man where he can play more to his strength of weakside shot blocker instead of low post defender. Wish he would of stayed with us, the kid always played hard. Thankfully we should be good regardless.

He is a good kid who always gave 100% when on the court for us. Wish him all the best at Texas Tech. Some of my most enjoyable moments watching us over the past two years involved his blocks and alley oops. Yes, he shot too much from the outside, but there were plenty of pluses. Hope this year is good for him and better for us!

So Marillac food wasn't enough?

The TT official roster lists him at 6'10, 205lbs.
He seems to weigh the same but shrunk an inch.
Good luckto him but I'll take Heron and Figgy any day.

I’m really happy for him and I hope he succeeds at Texas Tech.

You can say something negative about how the relationship ended but you cannot deny Tariq put 110 percent effort on the court.

It’s nice to see a young brother getting his bachelors and his masters degree. If the NBA doesn’t work out he’ll have many opportunities off the court.

But if he had stayed, we'd probably have all three.

That would have been a problem at the forward position. Two's company, three is a crowd.

He might not would have liked it, but he could give us much-needed size and depth inside.

I think we finally made a change in regard to our conditioning regime and staff. The following is a sad indictment of where we failed.

"With the guidance of strength and conditioning coach John Reilly and sports nutritionist John Boesch, Owens has already gained 25 pounds, is more conditioned and is jumping higher than he ever has in his career.

"They have done so much for me in the short amount of time that I've been here," Owens said. "The work I've done with them is going to help me the most. My body is stronger, I'm moving better and am jumping higher. I've increase my vertical and my maxes in the weight room. The work I've put in with them is what I've lacked in my college career so far and coach Reilly has provided what I have needed and more."

Our strength and conditioning coaching position was combined with our nutritionist position and was manned by the guy who flips burgers in Marillac cafeteria.

I always liked Tariq; he gave 100% on the court for us. Wish him the best and looks like he's primed for an excellent senior year. As someone who lost his Mom at an early age I know that's tough and it's clear his Dad did a great job raising him.

I wish Tariq well.

I watched the Video and he has not put on 25lbs.
For the last 3 years Tariq put out videos of him working hard in the off season. He is a good kid who thinks he should of had a bigger role at St John's.

In the Video he also talks about fan support. Is that a dig at us?

LOL

If he's really put on 25 pounds since leaving here and still managed to increase his vertical, I'd like the name of the steroids that he's been using. Hopefully I keep my hair like he's managed to, though.

Or maybe we should fire our strength and conditioning staff.

looks like he did gain a bit, but I'd bet that 25 lb gain was from post season to pre-season, not a full 12 month comparison. players are generally going to be considerably lighter by end of year with all the burn they are getting.

His big gains can't be put entirely on the new TT S&C team, or deficiency of ours. Our other guys got stronger. Another year of personal growth/genetics, plus a greater incentive for him as he enters final season have to come into play too.

I hope he has a good season.
