Syracuse

I don't understand how it's not a must win. With limited opportunities for us to pad our resume, a very tough Big East that will definitely beat up on each other and inevitably not get the credit it deserves, this is one of our few chances. Especially since I don't see us beating Duke. St. Mary's and LBSU, while nice wins, are not marquee wins.

I don't believe Syracuse is a must win, but losing will obviously raise the bar for us on conference play, assuming we don't beat Duke. If you look at Xavier last year, they got into the tournament (barely) by beating just one ranked team - like us, they split with Creighton. And also like us, they lost twice to Nova. But they beat us twice. If we take care of business in the conference, we can get into the tourney.

Agreed. If we go 3-0 in CUSE, SMU, and LBSU games, 10-8 in conference should do it. If only 2-1 or 1-2, gotta go 12-6 or better in conference.

Remember the Bootsy Thornton (42pnt?) game, ot loss against Duke at MSG?

I'll predict a 32pnts game for Green, hitting 7 3s at Syracuse.
Will be his finist moment in the SJU uniform.
SJU 82 Cuse 71

This game on Saturday, Dec. 6th, ignites the whole team, and everyone including the bench players picks up their game, and we don't lose again until sometime in February.
This game could give us the spark that we need.

OldSchool Redmen,

First off, since no one else said it, welcome to the chaos & mayhem that is Redmen.com.

Second, I like the optimism of your debut.

Third, so we can get to know you better, please tell us where you stand on:

1) Lavin’s sense of fashion. His wife (hot or not?). His recruiting record, his Xs & O’s, his use of time-outs, benching players, etc.
2) CA: dimly lit dump or glorious throw-back?
3) Our fans: passionate, loyal and knowledgable, or crusty old goats who like to backstab and contradict each other?
4) MSG: should we play there? Are MSG and NYC really effective recruiting tools?
5) Keady: valuable mentor or only here for an easy buck?
6) All-time favorite Redman?

None of the above will be used against you, we promise.

I am kidding of course. I sincerely hope you enjoy this site as much as I do.

I'm hoping they receive their NCAA sanction tomorrow and lose to the Johnnies Saturday. It's a long shot, but it possible as their two day hearing was completed about a month ago.

the NCAA doesnt like to hurt the big draw big conference teams so Cuse has that going for it. But it would be nice to see some real sanctions to put Jimmy and his crew in their place.

I hope we just show up ready to play on the road in the big game for once. @xavier, @villanova, @creighton, etc. last year what was the common occurrence???

Came out dead, went down early, comeback attempt comes up short. Let's come out and get up early, cause then the fans will be quiet, the young cuse team will get nervous, and we will win.

I agree with your take; not going to happen.

I was at the Nova game and saw a team that came out of the gate fine. The Johnnies failed to execute down the stretch in that one. They played well for the first 35 minutes. They started well with Creighton as well and in the New Years Eve Xavier game they played flat from the end of the first half through the start of the second half.

Besides, this is a new season and much different team. We'll see how they do against a Cuse team coming off a loss that will come out strong on their home court.

I agree that a strong start is a key for this one.

Boeheim is already in his place: the Basketball Hall of Fame.

well that is how it is when you win so many games at the helm. I just dont like his personality. I suppose if he was with st johns I would like him because then he would be OUR S.O.B. But as long as he is their S.O.B. it is nice to see his team struggle and lose. The more loses the better

The issue here is academics and student eligibility. The NCAA thinks it is hard on this front. They put two years into the investigation and the two day hearing has Cuse pretty nervous. I'm also not sure the ACC is lobbying behind the scenes for a NY team. Their commissioner is not in a good position. He has his own troubles as he was the AD at UNC when they conducted a wide scale academic fraud on the NCAA and it's member schools.

We'll see what happens. The Cuse ruling should come down within 30 days. I would not bet on them walking away clean on this one.

We have the win vs. Minnesota.
St Marys s/b a "quality win" for the committee.
As long as we take care of business in the BE - i think 11-7 minimum and win all other OOC games exceot Duke, we will be fine, even w/ a loss at the Cuse. This game would just pad the resume.

Assuming we lose to the Cuse and Duke, we will be 9-3 OOC (not counting Franklin Pierce since they are D-6).
11-7 BE puts us at 20-10 heading into the BET where we would need one more win to give us 21 wins....with the BE significantly improved from last year it would be criminal to leave us out with that resume.

20 wins heading into the BET I feel puts us where we were last year, and as we found out, even if we had beat Providence in the BET we were not in. Also as I remember, the Big East had the 4th best RPI last year so how much improved is it really?

So you're saying that since the NCAA completely ignored UNC's fraud thay are going to come down hard on the Cuse. Anything can happen I'm not saying it shouldn't but I just don't see it. IMO, the NCAA will not do anything against a Big Five conference team. They are too busy trying to figure out how they can keep a piece of that football TV money long term.

Stealing a line from Jerry Tarkanian ,the more violations uncovered against Syracuse the worse it is going to be for Colgate.

we also had losses last year to depaul and penn state which killed us.

Our OOC schedule is better this year with Duke, Gonzaga, Syracuse, Minnesota and St Marys as the top five compared to last years Wisconsin, Syracuse, Penn St. G-Tech and Bucknell.

Overall, from top to bottom, strength of BE is far superior than last year's.

Nova is a top 10 Team.
Butler, GToen, SH, Depaul all improved.
PC & Creighton solid clubs
Marquette and Xavier down

Mix all that up and 20-10/11-7 heading into BE we are in great shape....

Have you been following college basketball this season?

I think the NCAA decided to re-open the investigation of UNC. If the NCAA caves on the UNC thing then they really have no teeth at all. I agree with you guys that the NCAA always comes down harder on the small schools.
