Syracuse, Sun. Dec. 13, 12pm, FS1 & 570 AM

Being a fan is not a pissing contest. What someone decides to do with their tickets is their prerogative. I'm 27 and working late some nights. the last few years I've only been able to make it to 5-6 games a year mostly on weekends. I'm putting food on my table, not the SJU program. So as much as I love them we all have to make grown-up decisions at some point and not meddle in petty hubris about Syracuse. Those dingbats are in for the dark ages any day now anyway, let them enjoy their last year of being better than us for all I care

The Jets are playing for a playoff spot in a December game, the Johnnies are down this year and are playing the 10th game of the year. If you are a die hard Jet and Johnnie fan the Jet game is a much bigger game.

I have had Jet season tickets since 1980 and St. John's season tickets since 1972 but I am going to be at MSG on Sunday. My deeper rooting interest is with my alma mater.

I would have done both though if the game times were further apart. Did that a few years ago in 5 degree weather after watching us play Providence and then going to Giants Stadium to watch the Jets play the Bengals for a playoff spot.

Have a feeling Yakwe starts Sunday.
This appears to be his kind of game.
Lots of offensive rebounds available against that zone.

If you guys don't stop this insane argument and wasting everyone else's time, this thread will be locked.

Gotta admit that Redskyfox pic is really funny.
Any idea what the spread is on sunday ? For us to have any shot we are going to need miracle like shooting from Mussini

And agree on Yakwe. We will need offensive rebounds

Zags blog;

Alkins and Maker aren't expected at the game, but Tucker is.

"Right now, I think St. John's is showing more love," said the 6-foot-7 Tucker out of Archbishop Stepinac, who also holds offers from Arizona, Syracuse and Maryland, among others.

Jordan's fellow 2017 prospects Nate Pierre-Louis, Hamidou Diallo, Andre Rafus, Eric Ayala and Myles Cale are also expected at the game.

In the Class of 2018, the Red Storm is expecting the Sports U Fab Five of Naz Reid, Louis King, Jahvon Quinerly, Luther Muhammad and Atiba Taylor, along with 7-foot-2 center Emmanuel "Manny" Umoffia, Bryce Willis and Samba Diallo.

Seton Hall recently made noise by offering the Fab Five as a group.

St. John's assistant Matt Abdelmassih has been making the rounds, including visiting Hudson Catholic on Wednesday for the 2018 guards Quinerly and Muhammad.

"He's obviously recruiting both guys, likes both guys a lot," Hudson Catholic coach Nick Mariniello said.

"Seton Hall's also done a great, great job with recruiting these two kids."

Roselle Catholic coach Dave Boff, whose team has won two of the last three New Jersey Tournament of Champions titles, said St. John's has also been active for the 6-9 Reid and the 6-9 Rafus, who have attracted many schools to the gym.

"St Johns has been active at RC this fall," Boff said. "They are recruiting a few of our guys and have been in our gym and also invited us to their campus. Matt has been very active in his communication."

The way I see Sunday's game against a smothering zone is accurate, crisp passes. I don't want to see steals off lazy passing that leads to easy fast break layups. We have to make them earn their baskets.
Teams that beat their zone utilize the best passer on the foul line who can hit Sima underneath and hopefully the open shooter in the corners.
Can't allow them to break out to a big lead, don't like our chances to fight back against their zone.

Good thing we will have all these kids there and our fans sold all their seats to syracuse fans............................

On offense I think we could play with them but the big issue to me, is going to be defending their speed and length on the perimeter. Unlike last season we have the advantage in the front court but we don't have the size or athletic ability in the backcourt to defend. 4 of their primary rotation guys that can kill it from 3. Their best shooter is 6'7 200lb. Their starting big man at 6'8 only plays about 15 mpg anyway. Unless we have some answers there, I could see them having a record day from three.

I would put Sima at the foul line. Hes a big enough target for our guard to get him the ball and hes got poise and passing ability. Him there with Jones on the block could connect on some high low passes.

This nails it. It would seem that Matt A. is doing everything and more that we hoped for when he was brought on board. Hitting the HS gyms regularly, he probably has a roped-off reserved spot out front. You can tell by the quotes from Boff and Mariniello above that the coaches know and respect him... One reason (among many) to be optimistic.
