What is the estimate on attendance for this game? I am hoping that the reedmen fans will have a lot to cheer for and will keep it loud. Watching there Georgia Tech game was a little depressing in front of 1,000 fans. Although it was empty enough that we could yell at the team to stop dunking in warmups and shoot some three throws. I think it helped.

I plan on going to stubhub in NYC the morning of the game to purchase 4 tickets. Do you think it will be a sellout?

Andrew, the only way to silence the Orange fans is to play them close, take a lead toward the end and WIN.
If we are behind all game and lose it will unfortunately sound like a Syracuse home game.
The Barclay attendance was a disgrace and embarrassment to the school.
The Providence UK game had over 8,000 fans and it appeared half were Friar fans.

Barclays is just not an exciting place to play. Some people don't realize how big the Garden and Manhattan are. UK fans would have filled MSG.

Anyone who thinks Barclays is a great arena didn't sit in the upper section. You are looking straight down onto the court. Jamal White's bald spot was blinding from up there last year. Not to mention the lack of elevators and escalators.

i agree the barclays is such an overrated venue. the seats are steep and they try to darken the arena like the garden and the staples center. nevertheless people like the venue because it is brooklyn. if used properly it can be good recruiting tool but an empty arena is not going to cut it.

Kentucky will make casual fans come to games.... Casual fans of the opposition they're facing and casual fans of college basketball in general.

I'm sure the casual fans of college basketball were rooting for the underdog, which was Providence. Not to mention, the true fan of college hoops, whom were attendance, were more than likely rooting for Providence, as well.

You combine those numbers with the Kentucky-faithful then there'll be decent numbers, even with a Providence squad on the floor with them.

I agree, there should've been a better turnout, per the tournament we participated in during the weekend. Oh, well....

Two years ago, Uk had about 12,000 fans at MSG. Uconn had about 5000, SJU about 2000 and UGA about 500. When people go on vacation in NYC (and fans use the NYC trip as a vacation) they don't think about Brooklyn. Brooklyn has a special place in the hearts of...Brooklynites. Tourists, not so much.

That was during Norm's last season, right?

Those fans had Providence shirts, the UK fans had UK shirts. That is not casual.
The arena was fairly divided. Maven was there as a casual fan but he was he was clearly not pulling for the Big East school. LOL!
My personal opinion as to why our games were sparsely attended is that since the exhibition games there has been mostly negative buzz about our play and those that attended our home games left deflated with our performance. That does not inspire the many casual St. John's fans to interrupt their holiday shopping or whatever they were soing. NY area alums and students need some motivation and hopefully that will begin with a big win over Fordham.

No. I think it was with this freshman class. Lavin's 2nd year. I'd have to look it up. I remember sitting in the UK section next to a very attractive and friendly female fan from Louisville during our game. I had to move when the UK game was about to start because the arena filled up. I literally sat in the last row in the nosebleeds during the UK-Uconn game.

EDIT: i think you're right, Dink. It was December 2009. Man, time flies when you're getting old. Seems like yesterday.

Well my redmen brother I gave my dad two tickets to see Andrea Bocelli. My guess is there will be 19,000 St. John's fan there next week. LOL!

It doesn't necessarily mean they are hard core, true, or diehard fans because they had on Providence shirts. I know plenty of casual fans who come out for big games.

Regardless, my point was when a team is playing someone like Kentucky, then all kinds of fans come out.

Tell you what.... Send Kentucky to MSG to play St. John's and you'll see how many St. John's fans will turn out. Or, even Barclay's. What we did in the exhibition and early games wouldn't matter (IMO, which is overplayed, per this discussion).

A friend of mine is Providence grad and went to the game. The top was tarped off and he said UK fans outnumbered PC fans 15 to 1 FWIW

If they dont include Barclays in the season ticket package the attendance will continue to embarass

I think we should be thinking of the Fordham game first. That is the easiest way to lose to Fordham, ie to have Cuse on the mind

Well, the fans can think ahead. It's the team who should focus game-to-game.

I have been to two Nets games and the arena when full holds just under 18,000 for BB. The top does not hold 10,000 seats so I am not sure what the tarp point is all about. I just went to my DVR copy of the game and do not see any tarp.
That said, it may have sounded like 15-1 in the second half when the Friar fans went silent but scroll your DVR to the 19 minute mark of the first half when Providence made a run. Scan the crowd and listen to the crowd. There were 8,000 fans in attendance. Does it sound or look like there were 7500 UK fans and only 500 Friar fans to you??
I was actually impressed with the Friar effort and their 7 footer did a good job, as did most of the undermanned team against a UK team with likely 5 NBA first round picks....maybe 6 if we look at the Mock 2nd round.

Part of the problem is that a healthy part of our attendance at games are season ticket holders. These games weren't part of the package, and with a team that has proven nothing, its hard for a season ticket holder, already committing to attending a bunch of games, to commit to Thanksgiving weekend. Yea, it It is embarrassing to be NYC's team, and not show up for a game, but it shows that our fan base in unconvinced, if it exists at all. Certainly it lends credence to the reality that Syracuse has more of a local fan base than we do.

Don;t worry half the Syracuse grads that work at WFAN will ballyhoo the game led by that moron Craig Carton.
It will be wall to wall fools from Orange land.
