Syracuse Fans Very Upset With St. John's

The more important question is.... why the hell are we playing Fordham at all this season ?!

Because Tom Pecora and Fordham are good for NY college basketball.

We should also be playing Hofstra, Manhattan, and Niagara on a regular basis instead of the Dartmouth, Longwood, and Youngstown State

You're 100% right. This is what we used to do 15 years ago. It is much more interesting and would drive a lot more fans to come out/ tune in on TV. Local rivalry's are great for college basketball, especially us. i would so much rather watch SJU play the former teams you listed than the latter, and the competition would be a bit tougher but not that bad.

Think the problem is those teams would want home and home series while we can load up on home games by playing these random teams on a one shot basis only but I agree it is much for fun to play the locals who the fans may actually know something about. maybe we can convince some locals to at least go 2 out of 3 home games for us.

I fear that the fans on that board aren't wrong about Syracuse going directly through MSGa and scheduling their own 'home' games in the future.

What's stopping MSG from booking 2 or 3 Cuse games every year ?

Because their admin and most fans don't want to give up Carrier dome dates. I see Cuse continuing to play in as many MSG tournaments as possible. And therefore not sacrificing home dates. Could they squeeze in a game on their own? Yeah sure. But not more than 1 'home' game.

We should be playing none of those teams on a regular basis. We are a BE not A-10 team .

We should maybe play the little locals on a rotating basis, one or two of them per season, but never more than 2 in one year, and never same team consecutive years.
The team should use the out of conf schedule to play bigger names like Michigan, UNC, Ohio St..... more often.

Oh and Fordham & Pecora are non entities in NY basketball and will continue to suck into the forseaable future.

Tobin, even schools from the Big 10, ACC, SEC, etc all play pre-conference games against local rivals. Just to give you some examples:
This year Syracuse plays Cornell, Colgate, Binghamton, St. Francis & Fordham. UConn plays Yale, BU & Maine. Duke plays Davidson, UNC-Ashevile, Elon & Gardner - Webb.

Everyone has local schools on their pre-conference slates, we are no different. I'd much rather play a school like Fordham, Manhattan or even Hofstra or LIU than Youngstown State or Longwood.

For the 20th time (and this is not just directed at you nycredman, but for everyone who conviently forgets), we are only playing Longwood as part of the regional round of the Barclay's Classic. We did not schedule them, nor Monmouth.

In general though nycredman, your point is correct.

Thanks for reminding me. But its also a matter of scheduling the right locals. I would be much more excited about playing Manhattan, Iona, or Hofstra than Wagner.

Giving Fordham a game is that awful? I'm thinking they might be the second best city team. They'll bring some fans and take the beating as well as we took ours in the best season we had in many years.

I actually did forget that 1982 but I was referring to in general, not just this year. Last year it was Florida Gulf Coast (although that turned out to be a quality win for us lol), & UNC-Ashveille, the year before it was Texas Pan-American. But at least we agree on the main point.

But back the main issue, suck it up Syracuse lol.

They should be happy that SJU is putting them on the schedule. They should have to buy an SJU season ticket to attend the game. IF they are so pissed, let them petition the school to drop out of the ACC and show their unhappiness by not donating to the school.

I don't think Syracuse fans are pissed that NY's team is now playing in the best college basketball league against the very best competition in the country. In fact, I bet the fans of NY's team are very excited about that. No, what they seem to be pissed about is that MSG thinks that Saint John's fans suck so much and are so disloyal that there's no way that the Garden is even half full for the SJ Fordham game on December 7th so MSG is forcing the fans of NY's team to buy tickets to a game between what they call "mid- majors," which they will not attend, so that MSG doesn't lose its shirt. It's like they want to go to a particular restaurant for a meal but the owner of the restaurant tells them sure you can eat here but you have to pay for a meal at this crappy restaurant called Chez Louie's first, because no one's going to go there because the food's sucked for 20 years.

You aren't wrong about that, but remember Syracuse lost a game to D2 Lemoyne just a few years ago, and they schedule their share of marshmallow games. Buy a ticket or two to the game, and I'll buy you a few beers.

Please stay home for both games if that is your attitude.

Hey Buck, maybe you can afford to spend $30+ for Wagner, Bucknell, Monmouth, Longwood, Sf, and Youngstown St. I guess you`re the man.
For some people making 4-600 a week, we gotta pick and choose who we want to see, so hey hate me if you want but that`s the way it is with me so get over it. Not everyone is making over 1,000 a week.

I understand your financial position. However, the Mets/Yankees have always wrapped Mets-Yankees single game tickets around a package of games. Their attitude is that demand for the game outstrips supply, so to maximize ticket sales, anyone wanting to see that game should buy 4-6 tickets. Of course, if the game doesn't sell out that way, you can wait till they sell it as a single game. While I appreciate your financial situation, it's not unheard of for the Garden to do this. At least they aren't creating Platinum ,Gold ,and Bronze tiered pricing based on opponents yet. I understand how it is for you - you have limited resources, so want to spend your money carefully to see the best game(s) possible. However, Syracuse tix in a good location will sell for $200-500 on Stubhub. So the value in a single game ticket is greater than face value - in that case if the Fordham game is worth less than face, when you average it out, you are still way ahead.

A lot of this fan base only wants to show up to certain games. You know what, if you want to be considered a big time program get your A$$ to every game possible. Stop complaining about coaches or Lav didn't do this or that, I am sure recruits love coming to half empty MSG or Carnesecca. MSG has plenty of deals leading up to the season, buy one get one free, 10 dollar student tickets, people need to get to games and stop with all the execuses. A few years back I was making 400-600 a week and you know what? I budgeted my money to make sure I got to all games, if that was a 15 dollar student ticket or a 20or25 upper ticket that's what I did. So I don't feel sorry.

When did I ever complain about Lavin didn`t do this or that?
Yeah so I guess you went on trips during the season huh? Guess your life revolved around Home, work, and SJU for 5 months. I know I`d rather go on vacation for 3 nights then go to a game for 2 hrs then go back home until the next game. Yeah if I was making 2,000 then money wouldn`t mean shit to me either. So don`t tell me how to spend my money. I`ll pick the games I decide to go to, no one else.
I`m not gonna apologize for it either. Say what else you want but I said my piece so I`m done with this subject

Damn it, get your priorities in order and get to the games. Your landlord won't notice if you skip paying the rent once or twice. And you probably don't need to eat breakfast and lunch.

Not telling you how to spend your money, your just another typical member of the fan base who posts on message boards like they really care about the program but does not make it to games. Do what you want I just don;t want to hear your bitching.

Not everyone can make it to games for a variety of reasons. This does not make them less of a fan. If I am able to go to a game I do. If not, I try to watch it on television. I still love the team.
