Summer get together with Matt / JohnniesPride Tweet
I was trying to lighten the mood with the FYI on the Incarnate Word center grad transfer news but it flopped terribly
Probably no chance. He doubts he’ll get much PT or ‘touches’—too guard-heavy. LOL
I actually I give him a lot of credit for it. He’s still an assistant coach and the most visible coach we have outside campus. I give him a lot of credit for it especially it’s not like we are coming off an NCAA season. Kudos to Matt for offering to do it
I initially thought he was just being sarcastic and pissy because people are questioning the strategy, which a small part of me probably would have applauded anyway.

Ok I’m going on record right now. F everyone who wants s to trash Matt and I haven’t been easy on staff but if matt wants to meet us out contact me and I will set it up and welcome him with open arena but will have some tough but respectful questions

If he's half as chatty on the record as he is off the record, it should be fun. Someone should ask his thoughts on the current recruiting structure and April no-shows.
So, you going?
Will it be in Oakland? If not, I'll just wait for Mullin and Mitch's, since they'll be closer to me this summer than Matt will.
Deputize, ask bama fan and '72 to stand in, better yet why don't you just tweet Matt.

Totally agree MJM. I think it’s a great idea. Fair, respectful questions keeping to the forefront that we are all diehard St. John’s fans, bleeding red and white.

1) Don't know either of those guys
2) Don't have a twitter account.

My question is whether this is done independent of Mullin's approval. Just a very odd offer by an AC so far removed from actual coaching.

True, but he's our main recruiter and knows our 'strategy' the best!

Here are some things that you could ask:

1.  What are the factors that would make a talented Big man like Kofi decide to choose St. John's over other schools?
2.  Who on the staff can develop a big man's talent the best?
3.  What is the biggest recruiting challenge facing St. John's in the New York City metro area?
4.  Why does he think players have been leaving the program?
5.  What does he think of the absence of Slice?
6.  If St. John's were to hire another assistant coach who are his favorite candidates.
7.  Does his wife enjoy living in NYC and does she attend the games.
8.  Has he blocked the Maven on Twitter?
9.  How often does he visit redmen.com?
10. Is he actively looking for another job opportunity?

If this is real I hope everyone realizes you're not going to get much from him. While he is chatty with many a forum like this would be a disaster if he opens up. At the end of the day it's like a pre game red white reception just without the money barrier.

It’s not like I’m gonna kill him or I hope and one else would be disrespectful. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. Doesn’t mean you can’t questiins and we might not like the answers but be respectful and if they aren’t then there is your answer. But if Matt is willing to show up show him respect and ask legit questions: if he doesn’t answer them or lies we all know anyway but at least he was willng to sit down with us. I really respect that

If true, this has got to be one of the stupidest things ever. Under no circumstance should a coach EVER be taking advice/suggestions from fans regarding how the program is run.

This has to be a joke, right?

I agree that it's hard to believe.

Not like he's meeting fans at a school sponsored community outreach, alumni or athletic program event.

Meeting a bunch of Twitter fans at a bar or restaurant so they can pepper him with tough questions he really should not be answering is just very odd. He'd likely have to give generic answers that you could already guess the responses to.

Can't imagine this would be considered by other AC'S or condoned by other HC'S or AD's.

I agree Matt's 'offer' seems unprecedented. And I wonder if he went 'solo' on this or has a tacit 'nod/wink' from CM to do it.
Maybe Matt is frustrated at the criticisms on this and other Boards and wants an opportunity to vent and set the record straight. Maybe he wants to reach out and assure us the Staff is on the right track. Maybe CM will scotch the effort. Dunno.
I also agree this would be best, if held by the HC and might then have precedents in the vein of taking Q&A from event participants in a 'talk show' format.
I admit I do not know why he may hold this event, but I applaud him for it.
St. John's hoops is in the midst of a woefully poor W - L record for most of the past 20 years.
While fans disagree on the current status and the outlook for the program--all of us want St. John's to recapture its winning tradition.
Maybe Matt and the Staff realize that and want to include us in 'clearing-the-air' as to what they see for the program and how they plan to get it back to reviving its legacy.
Matt may have volunteered for this. He may have gone 'solo' with it and/or CM may have approved of it.
I do not know the 'why' of it or if it transpires but I want it to succeed and love the sentiment.

I might have to find different stand-ins. I'm polite in real life, but I'm not sure if those guys are.

Let's not forget that most keyboard warriors won't have the balls to speak their mind in person like they do on the internet.

Like others have said, I imagine a meet and greet with Matt giving very PC answers.

Many of the comments in this thread are among the most humorous I have read in a long time.

Repetitive posters on this site enjoying the anonymity of this public forum criticizing Matt’s offer to meet fellow alums and fans of St. John’s basketball..... priceless.

I’m amazed with the reaction to this. The thought that will will give out information that he is not allowed too or take advice is comical. It’s comical people even think of this shit. Instead of questioning or freaking out be thankful that someone from the staff is willing to meet the fans and talk basketball and answer questions that can be answered.
