Stop the negativity...Please

Listen I fully understand that this year has been disapointing....I get it! WE all had high hopes of an NCAA bid...I get it!!!! We all defininitly understand that this forum is for the fans......we all get it...BUT PLease there has to come a time when you realize what you are and in our case is a mediocre Div I basketball team. I love this team and enjoy going thru the threads and commenting during games but it has gotten to the point where the negativity is festering and making me not want to read anymore topics. Fans ROOT for their teams and root for their coaches. All I have seen and read in the last few weeks is negative. The concept of a "FIRE LAVIN" thread mid season is pathetic. Do you really think they will fire him in January...really. What make you think we are getting a more qualified coach to replace him. Oh yes...I loved when someone mentioned Jay Wright and really love when we all have to re-live the Calipari/Louie crap! When the season feel free to sphew your venon..but not now...we still have basketball to play.

I have to say my favorite one was when a poster stated he would boo Lavin at a game. Dear poster if u do please stand up so we can all see what a jackass on two legs looks like!

Recently I have read that some posters claim that they/we have "gotten the word out" that Lavin is a bad coach. Nice job.....and u wonder why we are having trouble landing recruits.

I have never see a collection of former CYO coaches claim to know more than a div.I coach with a talented staff. If you know so much how come your name isn't mentioned in the "we should hire" thread.

I know I will be beaten down with numerous responses who claim "I dont get it" "I'm blind...blah...blah ...blah" The point I am trying to make is if you have nothing constructive and somewhat positive to make think twice before hitting send...I think many on this board will say a collective "Thank You"

So tonight I am going to go to the game as I always do and Root for my team. And I will try to drown out the many negative sighs, groans, moans, crying, screaming that I hear with my cheers. Trust me....I wish the players had the same ability....maybe we would play better.

Although I haven't been happy with what I've watched this season, I completely agree with plandome4 on this one. No matter how much we bitch and complain, none of us will be the final decision makers. I love St. John's basketball and I respect whoever the coach may be. The team got a win last night. Yes, it was an ugly ending. Nobody is debating that. But at the end of the day, we can chalk one up in the win column. Let's hope the team can build off of it and win a few more in the coming days.

I'm done talking about firing coaches and who replacements could be. The fans haven't been heard in a long time and that isn't going to change anytime soon. I just hope to see some exciting basketball games over the next few months and maybe make things interesting by the end of the year.

Shirley you've read a soccer board?
They make this place look like everyone holding hands singing Cumbauya

Of course, every message board has its types that fly off the handle. But, when any team has had the type of season our Johnnies have had I don't recall people being told by other posters to knock it off or stop feeling a certain way (EDIT: unless they cross a line or something like that, insults, profanity, etc). Sad truth is, most people join a message board in the first place to either gripe about something or piss and moan about something and have a sounding board or like minded fans to respond to them.

As cheery as I like to be on a message board (I'd rather laugh, then bitch), I'm not in the business of telling grown men what to type or how to feel. I, also, stick to the game threads when it comes to posting here because, my posts on a message board are not going to change the way anything is done around here, I hate speculation and I know next to nothing about most of these recruits, except for what I read on rivals or scout, and that's not always too accurate.

Oh...and don't call me Shirley

I say Shirley because our esteemed buddy Fun uses it instead of Surely. Arguably his greatest contribution to that site that I will use for eternity :)

I know I'll get destroyed for saying this, but I think he's a hoot, he's intelligent and, most importantly, some people take him way too seriously. Some of the boards I've frequented he'd be relatively tame on.

Check out his game recaps on bigeastboards.com, very entertaining.

Agree, now is NOT the time for this. We all need to support this team and coach. Is it frustrating? of course, and only because we all have seen bad teams that overachieved with less talent. This team odes have talent, and say whatever you want about Coach Lav, but he's been around basketball more than 99% of us. Let the talks of "Fire Lavin" end. This team still has a chance. They are frustrating to watch only because they have guys that can compete with anyone IF they gel. I say, wait till the season is over to grade anyone, and right now....."Go Johnnies"

Yes the team has "talent". They just can't shoot. When you miss open jump shots and layups you look bad. Even last night we built a 17 point lead w/ 9 minutes to go, what was our shooting % from that point forward? If we make open shots and layups the game never gets close. Not being able to make an open shot this year, especially at crunch time has killed this team, and unfortunately will continue to do so.

They may not be a high percentage shooting team, but depending on who you consider the starters, here are the guys who can make 3's.

Harrison
Greene
Jordan
Sanchez

Only Sampson and Pointer are not threats from out there. When they move the ball for wide open looks, we can be a pretty good inside out team. Now, if we could only make layups.

I do. And, yes, they are. Hilarious at times, actually.
