Stop the negativity...Please

Phil Greene is the worst player we've had here in awhile. Deal with it tools. Big Sean Evans was easier to watch

And some people wonder why they aren't taken seriously.

I don't wonder that at all. Maybe as an old man you have certain insecurities but caring about what people think is not one of them for me.
When I say he's the worst player I don't mean the walk on at the end of the bench is better. I mean of the kids who have a role on the team. Look at his plus/minus tonight I believe it's around -15 right now. Kid is an awful player I wouldn't start him on my HS team. Can't get in the paint if his life depended on it.

Gibbs has dropped 8 on him in 4 minutes to start 2nd half.. Smh how could you be positive about a coach who continues to give a player of this lowly caliber major minutes

At this point I'm not positive on the coach nor PGIII and didn't say I was. I was just pointing out how your use of infantile hyperbole severely weakens your credibility.

Maybe it is hyperbole but not infentile. That petulance is fittingly exhibited by people like you and ljsa who take it upon themselves to go after people instead of taking things in jest the way they were intended. I stand by what I meant, minutes-to-talent he is garbage and has done nothing for this team for the better part of 2 years.

OK that's just hyperbole. ;)

Should he play more than 8-10 per night as the backup 2G? I don't think so. But he's also contributed at times. PS I'm not watching this game so I can't comment on tonight, I'm still in the office.

True haha, hyperbole aside we are going to win our first conference game tonight! And Branch will be starting over Phil for the rest of the season. Even Lavin will be capable of making that move after this drastic display of skill by each player

Wow I was way too confident up 15 with 8 min left.. Awful choke job, so much for being positive!

Although the last eight minutes were horrible and we should have lost. We won. The best part was seeing Greene ride the pine for most of the game. I can be positive now. Bring on Butler.

Sirvoo, wasnt it you who said Branch was terrible last year and should basically never play in a game? Right after the OT loss to Nova?

And BTW, I am with your current stance that Phil should never be running the point in favor of branch. Have been since his first minute here.

Lol I agree with most of you about phill ou should see what I wrote on the seton hall game thread. Phill is a cancer to this team . He should get no more than 10 min a game if that off the bench . For phill it's always pull jumper after pull up jumper , never goes to the basket . How many assists does he have all season ??? 3 maybe ???? This guy never passes the Ball,he makes no one around him better , he is about him self and the box score. This guy hurts our offense , example: 1:26 left in the nova game, sju down 4 , sju has the ball ( phill has the ball) what does phill do ? Even with us being in the double bonus, he takes a pull up jumper so nova can grab the long rebound . That's just one game I got a whole lot more where that came from . No more phill please no more lavin !!!

I'm not trying to step on anyone's shoes, but this is by far the only board I've ever seen where people get crapped on for expressing their opinions. I don't get it at all.

I consider myself a level headed guy, but are people supposed to be dancing in the streets with what we've seen this season. Tonight was ugly, but now we have a winning streak, lets see if we can build off it.

Haha, I remember sirvoo's posts after that game. He said that Branch's technical in the first half cost us the game even after that dumb garret foul at the end, Sampson not showing up, etc.

But, branch has improved vastly since then, and with that I'm sure sirvoo's opinion has been altered.

I thought Lavin coached a good game tonight despite the final few minutes.

Over and over it seems lavins timeout usage is awful, and that is one thing that just doesn't go away with him.

But on the other hand i thought the subs were good, lineups fine.

We utilized the pick and roll on offense tonight a lot which I haven't seen all year from this team.

Lavin turned our guys loose and pressed for periods of the game, which was smart. We forced turnovers, had better ball movement, and overall had a good offensive game plan.

Only other complaint I have about the coaching was when we went up we got complacent. Lavins gotta tell our guys to push the pace even with the lead. If we went up 17 with 3-4 minutes left, fine, milk the clock. But there were eight minutes left in the game, we should not have taken our foot off the gas pedal. This team needs to deliver a knockout punch and push the lead to 25, not back down to 6.

Just to play Devil's advocate here Phil had 4 assists tonight in just 14 minutes. For the season he has 23 assists with only 7 turnovers. A better than 3 to 1 assist to turnover ratio. That is by far the best on the team and better than most guards in the country.

I do agree with the fact that Phil is not a point guard and there are games where he does not play well. He does dribble too much for my taste and is not the best passer around. However whether it is Jordan, Branch, Harrison or Greene that plays, they have all played badly at times and well at other times. Greene was our best player in the Dartmouth game.

The problem with our guards and the players on our team in general is a lack of consistency. There are no definitive rotations because on a night in and night out basis there is a Jekyll and Hyde aspect to most of our player's performances. The optimist in me is always hoping for the Jekyll in their play. However only in the Fordham game have I seen that come to fruition.

Agree re: taking foot off pedal...i am big believer that when you go up big with a lot of time left...you work for layups and get fouls...it saps the energy and resolve out of the competitor...

You can't just go all Jon Rothstein and pick stats off of page.

He has a good assist-to-turnover ratio because he never passes the ball.

How many fastbreaks has PGIV just ruined by stopping at the FT line and pulling the ball back out?

Kudos to PGIV for having a good game vs Dartmouth but as someone noted he said he was going to shoot every time he touched the ball.

He simply is not that good of a player to be given that kind of green light from a head coach.

I don't disagree with you that Greene has definitive flaws to his game. My point is that there are moments where each one of our guards has been our worst player and there are moments where each has been our best player. While Jordan may have a huge upside and has looked great at times, he played abysmally in the first half of the Providence game and Greene was much better than him on that night. In fact the same inconsistency applies to Harrison and Branch. That is what is so maddening to me. The talent level of all of them is vastly superior then when we had Eugene Lawrence, Malik Stith or Malik Boothe as back court members.

It is just hard to know on a given night who is going to play well for us. Game in and game out our guard play and our whole team is very inconsistent. In the opening minutes tonight and again at the end we were drubbed 41 to 15. In between those two brutal stretches we outscored Seton Hall 62 to 35. Who are we Dr. Jekyll Or Mr. Hyde?

Hahah this is why I love reading/posting with you guys. Mase and Jack I give you guys a lot of credit for remembering that. I was quite crestfallen after that defeat to Nova last year. In my defense that wasn't a basketball play Branch made so I was very ticked off!

As a self-admitted wet blanket I appreciate it when you guys bring up something like that. I was wrong, a lot of guys make mistakes in the heat of the moment.

Is Branch the ideal "experienced" point guard you want, that's debatable. But he has somewhat consistently shown he can get into the paint and either finish or create for a teammate. That's valuable for us to get some offensive continuity. Add to that Jordan's talent and we could gain some positive momentum down the stretch through our backcourt.

I also want to vow that I will not rag on Phil anymore. He seems like a good kid. Every time he puts up a midrange J instead of driving I curse his efforts midway through the shot. That probably won't stop, sorry to whoever is in my section. But I'm not going to beat a dead horse here and just hope PG improves.
