Stop the negativity...Please

Listen I fully understand that this year has been disapointing....I get it! WE all had high hopes of an NCAA bid...I get it!!!! We all defininitly understand that this forum is for the fans......we all get it...BUT PLease there has to come a time when you realize what you are and in our case is a mediocre Div I basketball team. I love this team and enjoy going thru the threads and commenting during games but it has gotten to the point where the negativity is festering and making me not want to read anymore topics. Fans ROOT for their teams and root for their coaches. All I have seen and read in the last few weeks is negative. The concept of a "FIRE LAVIN" thread mid season is pathetic. Do you really think they will fire him in January...really. What make you think we are getting a more qualified coach to replace him. Oh yes...I loved when someone mentioned Jay Wright and really love when we all have to re-live the Calipari/Louie crap! When the season feel free to sphew your venon..but not now...we still have basketball to play.

I have to say my favorite one was when a poster stated he would boo Lavin at a game. Dear poster if u do please stand up so we can all see what a jackass on two legs looks like!

Recently I have read that some posters claim that they/we have "gotten the word out" that Lavin is a bad coach. Nice job.....and u wonder why we are having trouble landing recruits.

I have never see a collection of former CYO coaches claim to know more than a div.I coach with a talented staff. If you know so much how come your name isn't mentioned in the "we should hire" thread.

I know I will be beaten down with numerous responses who claim "I dont get it" "I'm blind...blah...blah ...blah" The point I am trying to make is if you have nothing constructive and somewhat positive to make think twice before hitting send...I think many on this board will say a collective "Thank You"

So tonight I am going to go to the game as I always do and Root for my team. And I will try to drown out the many negative sighs, groans, moans, crying, screaming that I hear with my cheers. Trust me....I wish the players had the same ability....maybe we would play better.

Dear Plandome4:

While I will not be at the game tonight due to a personal engagement (Damn, I'm missing out on the Chris Mullin bobblehead!!!), just know that I share your sentiment fully. Every thought you expressed is exactly how I feel right now. And if the jackass does stand up, I hope someone takes a picture and posts it (ash that will never happen).

Just know that if the rest of the board challenges you to a fight, I have your back.

Sincerely,
Simplyred

Do you think the rest of us boo when Harrison makes us jumpshot? Honestly, do you? We're at the games, we're fans too. We have our red hats and sweatshirts on, and we cheer, and we want the team to win.

It's pretty insulting for you to imply otherwise.

Also, having a job doesn't mean you're good at your job. You give deference to Lavin simply because he's a D1 coach. Judge him on his merits not on his title.

And apparently you and I have different definitions of "constructive". I think discussing persons who might be a good fit, and would improve the program is constructive. I think discussing which lineup would be most productive is constructive. And I also believe discussing what plays we should and should not be running is constructive.

You on the other hand seem to think cheering until the results are somehow different is constructive. That's an interesting understanding of that word, for sure.

All they have to do is win and a lot of this crap goes away.

People seem to forget these kids are between 18-22.

Direct it at coaching but lay off the kids.

If I hear another person complain about Phil Greene, enough is enough after a while.

I feel the same when people complain about Harrison.

Everyone has their favorites.

First off, I'm not the one who said I'd boo Lavin. But I wouldn't expect you to know that because you're oblivious to what is going on around you.

- No one thinks they'll fire Lavin in January. The Fire Lavin calls are general in scope. Some people are convinced he's not the right person for the job.
- Jay Wright was used as an example of a coach that gets it right, others rightly pointed out that Nova fans gave him some time to get things going. No one talked about hiring him here now.
- Many posters are pretty confident we'll get someone more qualified, because the essence of the argument is that Lavin isn't qualified. So the average D1 basketball coach would be an improvement.
- What sense does it make to wait to analyze/criticize until after the season? Am I supposed to wait till August to point out that it defies reason to have Hooper in the game up 4 when you have other ball handlers on the bench? You observe things in the games, you comment on them... that's what the board is about.
- And posters were only glad that word got out because the media is starting to take notice of what's going on here and putting some pressure on coach and hopefully the administration.
- We may be former CYO coaches, but the critiques are obvious ones, and if they're correct then why should it matter who the speaker is? Your argument is based on this: "Your wrong, because... you're not experts! And, well, because I say you're wrong!@! Arggh". Our arguments are based on failed experiments with the lineups, poor uses of his timeouts, and terrible substitutions late in games. Specific examples. You offer nothing to rebut any of the substance that the posters criticizing Lavin have given. You just attack us. Yet we're the bad guys in this warped story of yours?

The coaches are fair game here. For them, this is a business and when you are being paid north of $1.5 million/year, you understand full well that when things go off the rails, you are going to get some harsh feedback. It is no different than any other business in America.

And as fans who are being required to shell out $50, $100 or more for a ticket to see this team play at MSG, we have paid for the right to voice our discontent as we see fit.

“'Why don’t you write an anti-glacier book instead?' What he meant, of course, was that there would always be wars, that they were as easy to stop as glaciers. I believe that too.'”

You never know....but If you continue to shine during the halftime CYO game...You just might get your chance to coach this team. This staff can spot talent!

Unlike NR,Lavin will likely be back next yr........He has a better record than Norm, bigger contract, and supposedly better players..And he has said next year will be a good senior year and a good recruiting year...Would wait upon events.....Should that not pan out,Lavin moves on....

If I hear another person complain about Phil Greene, enough is enough after a while.

I feel the same when people complain about Harrison.

Everyone has their favorites.

There have been players over the years that I wasn't fond of. Last year it was Harrison, deservedly so. This year he is one of my favorites - deservedly so. I cheer for him this year, and I cheered for him last year.

Am I fond of Lavin? I really don't think so, but other than constructive stuff, I am rooting for him too.

I believe most posters, maybe not all, were ecstatic when Lavin was hired to replace ROBERTS. And, that spirit carried over into the 2010 team with HARDY, ETC.

Many thought, with Lavin's recruiting class that we were soon to become BE championship challengers and ultimately, NCAA tourney participants.

Those rose colored views dimmed a bit when recruits like Pelle, Lindsay, Samspson's ineligibility, left us without some of the tools we thought we had in gear.

The Harkless TEAM was coached mostly by Dunlap and while we all gave Lavin a pass for the youthfulness of the team, signs began to show that putting these talented pieces together was going to be a chore. Dunlap, I thought did a great job , with Lavin's rookies

The next year, last year, had some early season blips with losses to UNC-ASHVILLE, SAN Francisco and, generally a team that underachieved, without a really significant victory.

This year, the hype about our talent, fueled even more so by adding Jordan and Sanchez, created the basis that a BE championship and NCAA bid were not beyond our reach.

The European trip began to show more negatives than positives and while hopes remained high, the early season was disappointing with losses to Wisconsin, Penn Sate and many near losses to Wagner, Monmouth, Longwood in games where we were generally not impressive.

Then, all optimism vanished with the 0-5 start to the new BE schedule, bringing us to where we are now, desperate.

i do not agree that fans have turned on the team. I think many have had , or now more so, doubts that Lavin can Coach winning basketball consistently..

The results on the Court are very disappointing and few can deny the team looks lost, disorganized and plays poorly at key points. Who bears responsibility?

The last I looked Lavin is where the buck stops, as it does for all Coaches, regardless of level of competition, CYO included.

I don't think fans should be expected to embrace poor results, regardless of their loyalty to the team and school.

Losing COACHES get booed, it's part of the business. Lavin is not immune, nor was Norm.

This team is flawed, poorly Coached and underachieving badly. Maybe results for this team change with a NEW coach? Just like Steve did with Norm's players.

It is something to think about.

This is NY, fans are the most impatient on earth. We all want to win, but I do feel some fans on here are a little out of control with the negative comments about our coach. I keep saying wait for the year to play out entirely and see who he brings in next year.

Some of you are acting like Coach Lavin has been the worst we ever had. If you believe that, then you weren't here during the mid 90s and the years before Lavin got here.

Support our coach and this team. I agree with the need to stop spreading the word about how bad you think Coach Lavin is. It's ridiculous and makes me wonder who is really behind the keyboard for those posts. NR's family and friends? Just saying.

I realize we are in some trouble, but I still think Coach is a winner and will figure this out. I don't see a lazy coach like some of you are claiming. Again, it makes me wonder what your agenda is if you are calling him lazy.

Chill and root. Let's grade the season in March.

Phil Greene is the worst player we've had here in awhile. Deal with it tools. Big Sean Evans was easier to watch

He's not even the worst guy on roster, much less in a while.
