Look I was the first one all over Mullin here the first year for sitting on the scorers table and letting a kid who hadn't even coached before basically coach for him during the games and yes this is probably the most painful season for me as a fan ever and my friends from here who I either sit with during games or group text our misery can verify my angst. Heck right after the game today there was a point that a thought was going through my head not to get my season tix next year but I like seeing my friends from 114 so I've already gotten that out of my head

BUT That being said I hope there are no fire Mullin chants at the games. He isn't getting fired the school has way too much money invested in him ( overpaying ) and ex assistant he wanted who isn't even here anymore.

As crappy as this season is we are way undermanned ( his fault this year ) but we have had some extremely close games without our second best player who is off the team. Next year assuming we have everyone coming back at least our main guys and we have all our recruits currently coming in and hoping Keita and Dixon have been developing this season off then next year the team is full ( I'm not saying stacked or even going to remotely overestimate talent like we do here all the time ) but full and that is the season that should really be the biggest barometer of coaching

As mad as we all are it's in all our best interests to root for him to succeed next year and hope he turns this around. Now venting on the boards I totally get since it's basically complaining amongst friends and I do it too but at the games I really hope no-one chants fire Mullin

And the kids are all pretty much good kids so dont even think about booing them.

I wouldn't have written this 3 hours ago. LOL

I posted this on the Georgetown thread, but it probably belongs here. It's from Marvin Clark's Twitter account.....

Nice find !! Good for him. That kid is such a quality person

Felt same way before nova game. I have tickets for tues and was gonna skip it. But I think these kids play their asses off and deserve us to show up. They are gassed every game due to lack of a bench. I went to nova and ill be there tues.

MJ and Valgoth... thank you for your considered posts.

Yeah, I am as disappointed and the next Redmen.comer but I do like these players. There is a lot of fight in these kids; they don't give up. I am told by someone who deals with the players that they are good - nice kids off of the basketball court.

As disappointed as we fans are, I am sure that the players are more disappointed the way the season has played out.

These St.Johns players deserve the on court support of the Redmen.com community.

"Don't even think about booing them."

Post of the year, and it's only January, and I didn't even write it. Kudos.

These kids didnt ask for Lovett's dad to pull the plug. They didnt ask for the slimy Sid Wilson fiasco. I still think its a fun team to watch. Heck, we sat through the games after the strip bar fiasco with all the walkons. Chris knows this needs to be fixed ( staff) and it will.

Anybody who would even think of startig a “fire Chris” chant is not a fan of the program and more importantly, lacks class.

Well said Mike (and others).

Over the past 30 years, we've suffered through some truly horrendous teams with rotten coaches and people with questionable ethics. This group doesn't fit any of those categories.

I hate the results so far this Big East season, but can still root for Chris and this bunch of players. I believe Chris (and staff) will continue to improve. I think attracting kids like Ponds, Clark, Owens and Simon will continue to attract more quality players and quality people.

So, yup, frustrating right now but this is far from a nadir for the program. Better days (and wins over the bleeping Hoyas) ahead.

I'm disappointed like the rest of you, but this is great perspective. This IS a great group of kids, and they are so easy to root for. They never give up, and they keep fighting.

As for Mullin, judge how you want, but I'm not even close to thinking he needs to be fired. Listen, the season was effectively over once Lovett went out for the year. We knew coming in we had a razor thin margin for error, and that pretty much ended it. Blame who you want, but we didn't get any favors from the Sid Wilson fiasco and how the Zach Brown situation played out. If all 3 are playing this year, imagine where we'd be? It's also sad that Yakwe hasn't progressed and Amar effectively gives us nothing.

Finally, I'm not totally upset with the play on the court. We've been under manned and still played the majority of the ranked teams we've played so far even for most of the game. I mean c'mon, UConn just got blown out by Nova by 20 on their own court, at least we played Nova very close. You can see how gassed these kids are by the end because we have no bench.

This off season will be critical. If we can retain Ponds and the incoming recruits, I'm excited to see a big step forward.

Don't think anyone has to worry about there being any booing of the home team in Carnesecca Arena as our next few games have late starting times so the students probably won't even show and the rest of the geriatric crowd will be too tired and lack the energy to boo or will leave early before the game gets out of hand. For those worried about booing of the players I don't think our fans have ever booed or blamed the players rather they may show dissatisfaction with the adult coaching staff for being responsible for the product on the court. That's not to say there may not have been catcalls directed toward a particular player at some point in our history but I don't think it is ever warranted to get on a college kid for his performance.

Should never boo a kid who is not getting paid to play. Seems like great kids and they work their butts off.

Coaches are fair game. The head coach is the CEO of the program and he is doing a terrible job. We fired a coach who had us relevant for this.

There's no quit in this team and none in us, because We Are St. John's. And it's premature to boo Mullin--he inherited an empty locker room, and has attracted great talent and great kids to the team. Yes, it's frustrating we didn't persuade Ellison to stay a year and Wilson's jumping ship also hurt. Mussini was gone. Nothing to do there.
I agree that Mullin should've gotten 1 - 2 big body types here. He has not--but that's no reason to boo the guy--that would be a class-less act. The guy is a battler. I'm certain this is killing him more than it is us.
This is OJT for him--frustrating to watch, but i'm confident he'll learn how to coach college ball.
Let's continue to root hard for the team and for the players.

Well said, MJ. If Mullin can't get it done here...no one can. Not in the Big East...maybe in a lesser conference. We're not getting the five stars needed to compete against the blue bloods. Our margin for error is small. We lost eight games by seven points or less. Had Lovett not gotten hurt...Wilson not bailed...Brown not gone off the deep end...we might by top five today.

I'll keep rooting for these kids...but I'll admit, it's tough to watch.

So there is nothing between competing with the blue bloods (which at most are 5-6 programs) and changing to a lesser conference?

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!! Lavin had us relevant? Lets see.
Year one was Norms seniors, only reason they got to the NCAA tourny was because Mike Dunlap is a x's and o's guru.
So he inherited the kids while someone else drew up the play, Yep, what a genius.
Last year they made it again, but the 2 times they made it they were one and done.

To bad he got lazy recruiting.

The problem with fans in general, and some posters to be exact, is that they are feeling sorry for themselves instead of for the players and staff that are still putting in a lot of hard work while having to endure this nightmare of a season.

I love how people keep making believe that Norman Roberts' "seniors" coached themselves that first year! I don't recall Mike Dunlap drawing up the plays during games, do you? As for that guru, the players hated him. About that first year the archives read:
"Lavin inherited a team that finished in 13th place in the Big East Conference in 2009-10. The next year the same players finished at 12-6. A jump of similar magnitude had previously occurred only one other time in Big East Conference history.
The Red Storm finished the 2011 season ranked 18th in the Associated Press Top 25, marking the first time it qualified for the postseason as a ranked team since 2000-01."
Poor Chris Mullin! He's just been unlucky in 3 years. That Lavin guy he only had cancer! Poor Chris Mullin he will have three losing seasons. That idiot fat necked Lavin only went to 2 NITs and 2 NCAA tourneys. Thank God Chris Mullin, a direct descendant of the long Lou Carnesecca coaching tree, has come home to save the program from the quagmire it was in. Chris is our "LAST HOPE". There will be no St. John's university basketball program should he fail. There will be no St. John's in the Big East should he fail. Lavin left the program in shambles. It could take 5 or 6 years just to recover.
BTW, some morons are actually saying that crap! Apocalyptic blind followers of a guy that brought nothingness to the program other than his name. Lavin had his Lavinwood disciples. Mullin has the walking dead as disciples. The problem is Lavin never considered any of his disciples friends while Chris Mullin does. Show me who your friends are and........
