Starting Lineup Next Season

I was thinking of asking this last week, but there were not as many variables out there. So with Powerball approaching a billion, I thought I would give us a chance to try something with much better odds. OK, this is SJU basketball, so slightly better odds. A lot of posters should be right, but the first decision will be predicting the Lovett outcome. Get that one wrong, and it's like having your final four in your NCAA pool all losing the first week of the tourney. Next, you have to be right on Freudenberg signing. For extra credit, also predict the first player off the bench. That can't include Mullin chasing down a referee. Here's mine:

PG: Ponds (I can't go against Paultzman's shoe avatar, despite my hope Lovett stays)
SG: Mussini
SF: Freudenberg
PF: Yakwe
C: Sima
First off the bench: Ahmed
I filp flopped on Mussini Ahmed, but figure Chris will be like Looie and give the start to the guy that was here longer.

Starting lineups from scrimmages and exhibitions don't count.

Ahmed starts day one in my opinion.

I had him written down over Mussini, but switched to Mussini as the starter. I know Ahmed is more of a 3, but the Lovett situation is throwing everything off.

My dream

PG - Marcus Lovett
SG - Shamorie Ponds
SF - Bashir Ahmed
PF - Kassoum Yakwe
C - Yakuba Sima

Bench: Mussini, Freudenberg, Ellison, Jones

Aren't you like 18?
You should be having better dreams ;)

I'm waiting on the first post with Rawle Alkins at SG. If anyone has Thon Maker in there, they definitely are trying to be the only winner.

Like me and Tuesday Weld the only survivors of a nuclear disaster?

Shoe avatar was just my sense of humor getting best of me. With rumors out there, I still hope he is staying.

That's the way I see it. Lets hope Lovett is here. Like the idea of a true PG . Also think Ponds is a more well rounded player than Mussini. Paultz. Cant joke w your avi, us fans take it as gospel LOL.

PG Lovett
SG Ponds
C Sima
PF Yakwe
SF Ahmed

Bench - Mussini, Owens, Freudenberg, Ellison, Jones

If Lovett leaves, would suspect they will go for PG from abroad, fifth year transfer or Juco ranks. Who starts at PG would be determined by how good the latter guy is.

Wild card - fifth year transfer interior player.

PG LoVett
SG Ponds
SF Ahmed
PF Yakwe
C Sima

6th Mussini

Somebody hit the fast forward button. Those 6 guys on most nights will give us the following: Quickest player, best shot blocker, 2nd best shot blocker, best shooter?, 4 threats to shoot or attack the rim. We deserve this.

I don't want a fifth year guard on the team unless they are significantly better than Durand Johnson. Fifth year players are useful if you need a final piece to a strong team. Otherwise let the guys who are here play and get better

I will go with the following -

Ponds
Ahmed
Freudenberg
Yawke
Sima

Bench -
Mussini
Ellison
Brandon Sampson - eligible second semester
Owens
Amar

PG Lovett
SG Ponds
C Sima
PF Yakwe
SF Ahmed

What is your feeling re; Ponds at PG if Lovett is not here?

Fifth year players are like David Cone. They come in as the final piece in the puzzle, help you win it all, and then leave. I would like to see a pg that starts from day one and grows with his teammates for 3 or 4 years. Most of the proposed starting lineups will feature a whopping 2 years of NCAA experience under their belts. Combined. And not even a full year, as Yakwe missed the start of the season and Sima will miss a lot of the season with injuries. Lovett is the right fit. I hope he sees that.

Not my preference, like Mussini, he is better off the ball. That said, perhaps he could grow into the role.

I think Mussini will start, at least at the beginning of the season.
