Staff Change

I no longer expect Mullin's time here to end well. I am extremely disappointed in what Mullin has done versus what he said he would do when he was hired.

This is the first time that I have said this openly but my frustration has been building and I had to come clean.

Mullins ego thinks he can make it work just fine the way it is.
So let him keep his staff as is, and if Ponds does't return, and they don't make the NCAA in his 4th year as coach. Guarantee no staff changes next April too.
Lets see if any of the ass kisses change their tune then.

If he fails this season to get to the ncaa tourny, especially after no changes to the staff.
I'll say ty for those moments 35yrs ago, but as coach, you're hurting us, so you need to go.

Everyone would bitch about nothing in 4 years, but because it's Chris he gets a pass?

I'm with you on this. From afar it appears stubbornness, ego, and lack of willingness to put in the work required to recruit effectively are going to do him in.

Don't we have enough of those threads?
C’mon man, we’re NY fans!
You make a good point sjc88, and most of us are surprised and excited to have gotten LJF. And looking forward to the 2018-19 season.
No doubt about that.
But we’re anxious and frustrated and concerned about what is looking like a ‘no-show-for-no reason’ by our HC at signature high-PR April HS recruiting events—featuring our top targets for the critical 2019 class.
No problem so take your comments about our no show head coach to the Mullin thread or the April Events thread , but why does the same crap have to be repeated in each and every thread ?
We got it, we need a big and Mullin is not as present as he should be.
It is absolutely nauseating to have the same garbage pollute every thread.
Last weekend we got 3 very good commitments. I choose to be happy with the recent surprise commitments and look forward to a better product on the floor this season.
Hey redmannorth, I hear you and am as excited as you about the upcoming season.
But we’re rabid and frustrated fans of St. John’s hoops and gripes spill over.
It’s human nature. It’s not diabolical and doesn’t have to be mean-spirited.
But I too will reserve my gripes about our ‘mystery big’, a new AC, and our coach’s lapses to specific threads.
(I’m pro-Mullin btw.)
You’re right. Thanks.
ChicagoDays has definitely been a positive poster nearly all the time, although to be fair has expressed frustration lately with the lack of a stud recruit. While some of the anti Mullin posters don't surprise me (a few that are generally negative about everything) , I've been a little surprised at some of the folks on here I totally respect who appear to be close to off the rails with disdain for Mullin.

Look, everyone knows that Mullin has some immediate family in California, and that was not the plan to begin with. If you want to crap on him for going home to spend some time with his wife and kid, I think that's way off base. No one here has any idea of how hard he is working the phones, or any other coaching activity performed from there. You guys (or I) have no idea if he is actually on LI or in California right now. Thew family situation will self correct soon enough.

Look it's not brilliant to say Chris wouldn't have been hired if he wasn't our best player in our history. It's reasonable to say maybe they shouldn't have gone that route - that's fair also. By the same token, Ewing would not have been hired by Georgetown either.

In my opinion, St. John's tried a lot of things: Promoting the loyal assistant, hiring a mid major gym rat (emphasis on Rat), hiring another well respected D1 coach (Jarvis) who turned into a bigger rat and divo, a big time recruiter with Queens roots and no HC resume, a tarnished luminary coach, which brought us to Chris. You know what? You could fit all of those guys into a basket, and together they don't bring what Chris could bring to this program. We are two seasons away from a 1-17 Big East team, and year 3 projected NCAA bubble until their number 2 player chose not to risk injury and sat down.

You may not be okay with that, and I respect that opinion, especially out of guys on here I respect, but right now I'm pleased with his progression as a HC, and still am confident we are heading in the right direction. Could he fail? Yes, and I'll be saddened if that happens. But it almost seems like some people here wold rejoice if Mullins coaching career flames out. I'll be patient, because we have no choice anyway.

Everyone on this site, despite self proclaimrd insight and inside info , are Amateurs . The Staff are professionals , including 2 HOFamers and 1 up and coming Highly regarded Young Coach, St Jean and a seasoned Major College Recruiter , Matt, who nearly every major team would like on their staff . Yet, the continuous noise from self annointed experts is the performance stinks on the Court, Recruiting wise and that Mullin isnt doing his job right . I mean it is truly laughable that any of us know more about Major College Basketball than Chris Mullin. Throw in Richmond and what other School has 2 HOF players on their Coaching staff ? None ! Recruiting High School players is a Risk heavy endeavor , even for the elite programs . I am satisfied Mullin has brought in Figueroa , Dixon, Keita, Williams, Roberts , Diakete, and next year Wright and Carraher plus a good chance on Gaffney and other players that the know it Alls dont know about . Ponds will return and have a big year . It makes no sense for him not to play another year and both, he and his family know it . And , while it never gets a nod here, Mr. Ponds and Shamorie trust Chris Mullin and the staff to advise them properly . They have more faith in CM than the10 or so Kryptonite hurlers do combined . How many teams beat Duke and Villanove in a week’s time last year ? One ! Sure , the 11 game losing streak was tough but, 4 of those games could hsve easily gone in our favor . And , just think if Lovett didnt quit on the School, Coach and teammates mid year , what might the Season’s record been? What BE team could have flourished if they had lost a pretty much guaranteed 18-20 point per game scorer ? Like we did ? But, none of this is evaluated fairly .

I luv Mullin, Beast. No change there. Just frustrated with ‘no mystery big’—an addition I think would’ve greatly enhanced our 2018-19 prospects.
I’m over that, still frustrated over seemingly little progress in fixing what I view to be the easiest problem to improve—our undermanned recruiting efforts—but now focused on rooting big things for the team we do have and hoping some solid 2019 seniors break our way.
Let’s go Johnnies.

I am not that pessimistic as to what Mullin has done. If Lovett had come back from the "injury" and I am convinced he could have, we would have won 5 or 6 of those games we lost in that 11 game losing streak. That would have put us in the Big Dance. It is true that we were short on the roster and that hurt us. To that degree Mullin is responsible.

You don't know what the hell you're talking about. Matt A. has been responsible in bringing in every player you've mentioned above. Besides, Diakite likely won't log too many minutes, if he's actually here to log any at all.

Wow! We're suppose to throw a party for beating Duke and Villanova, huh? Good wins, no doubt. But, I expect to challenge AND beat those teams, as I feel we should be competing with those programs.

Yeah.... Let's continue to lay blame on LoVett, and not at the feet of the head coach. There was a small faction of posters who felt we were going into last season shorthanded, and was an injury away from things derailing. Let's say it came to fruition. We still shouldn't have lost 11 straight games even without the services of LoVett.

We want the coach to put forth effort on the recruiting trail and hold some accountability. It's only the lifeline of collegiate sports, so no biggie, huh? Either some of y'all are ignoring some folks or conveying we're liars. If it's the former, then shame on you. If it's the latter, then you could potentially get my goat up.

The only amateurism here is your brain.... It's incompetent, full of hypocrisies and contradictions.

I just don't get the reluctance to hire another assistant. It's clearly an issue, but Mullin won't budge. Extremely frustrating and head-scratching.

You have to be kidding me Paultzman. With all the negative bullshit repeated adnauseam by the child-like snowflake posters on this board against our coaching staff, you call out Slyfoxx for his positive comments. C'MON MAN!!! Or are you nothing more than someone with a semi-reliable source.

It makes no sense to retain Richmond and pass on any number of well-connected local assistants. As for the Lovett excuse for last season, Mullin brought him in knowing he attended four high schools, had academic issues and an overbearing father. The kid was here for three years and probably played in fewer than 30 games.
That all said, one thing that our staff can't control is the number of schools that are paying players to enroll. We don't know how many recruits were lost in this fashion.

Getting close to locking another thread with the attacking comments guys.

AlBovini, Beast and a few others here are the posters i support and i think they are expressing the views of the majority of St John’s Fans overall . The possibly 10-12 others who differ are speaking only for themselves and they support only themselves . Beast , you are 100 percent right ! Even a few of previously well respected posters , Paultzman, mjmaher seemingly have dumped over the edge in to Kool Aid land . Whopper, you accuse me of beating a dead horse yet, you and the others are way over the limit yourselves in pushing the Anti Mullin BS . I have to question your siding with the long term poster MJD who , for years, has been the most personally offensive and off the charts person on this site, BEB and Johnny Jungle . He most definitely is in the same category as the now quited Fun . Has been forever and is a nasty SOB besides .

Shut up, moron! All your whining, fabricating, hyperbole, and BS to attempt to paint me a "bad guy" falls on deaf ears, Mr. Incredibly Stupid.

You come on here talking like you're aware of what's going on, but you're as clueless as a wooden log. Stop crying so much.
