St. Mary's Game Thread

@yelbeeez: After losing at home to Northern Arizona last night, St. Mary's went from 57 in RPI to 142. #SJUBB

That really sucks

Yes it does

With the conference slate looking very challenging this year plus a game vs Duke, nothing to worry about w the RpI/SOS as long as we take care of business.

Btw Tulane is 8-1 but their schedule is not anything to write home about. They play Washington a few days before they play us

It will definitely rise as the season goes but it is a little disappointing how low our rpi is considering our great play and multiple games against big name schools. 57 is a good win. 142 is a potentially bad loss.

Stay ranked in the Top 25 and your RPI will be moot.

That RPI-watching is what perennial losing teams do.

Winning teams concern themselves with seeding.

Pre-game discussion is light on their forum. Not much insight, except CO needs to watch out and not get "goated".

Now whether these are mountain goats, billy goats, or Lord help us, unsuspecting scape-goats, the author fails to elaborate.

If any of y'all see CO between now and Friday, pass the word, "Four legs baaa-d"

A smattering of their fans will be there based on another thread.

And their team got food poisoning after the Creighton game. Maybe the Marillac cafeteria can do their pre-game meal?

This is a huge game for them. Unlike us, they do not have an opportunity to face multiple ranked teams during the regular season. Only Gonzaga, for which they will be major underdogs.

Not to be trite, but I hope the players feel the same way I do: Every game is a big game for us. No letdowns, full throttle, from now till our last moment on the court this season.

I truly feel that this team, lead by D'Lo, has the "eye of the tiger", big time! Now that's not to say that the won't have some games where they come out flat, and/or have an occasional stinker, but I honestly don't see it being as a result of lack of effort. Go Johnnies!!!!!!

That really sucks

It does. But maybe Long Beach State can help offset that. They have had one hell of a OOC schedule. They just lost to #18 San Diego State by 1 point. They play #9 Texas this Sat. Then they play us, followed by Syracuse and then #4 Louisville.

LOL. And the San Diego States of the world are playing with fire, a la Michigan. Long Beach State has beaten Xavier already. And lost to them too. Not sure why they have played them twice.

They played them twice because of a pre season tournament had it work out that way. Weird quirk

Question for Friday's game. What are the security policies at the Carnesseca Arena? I'll be coming straight from the office and have a backpack and laptop with me. Is that ok?

They will inspect your bag but it should be no problem bringing a laptop in. Best to put keys and coins in the bag before you go through the magnetometer rather than having to dig the out of the little bin once you go through.

you will be subject to a strip search

I wonder what the spread would be if St. Mary's had won their last game.

I'm interested to watch Rysheed tonight. If I were to guess why he hasn't been starting, it's because in the Minny/Zags games he forgot a bit that he's part of a team - a very good team - and started to force things. He's been much more under control lately and in the Fordham game let the game come to him.. and put up some gaudy numbers.

Easy for a kid to think he can/should do that every night and go back to forcing it... I'm hoping that's not the case tonight.

I still remember feeling that Ron Artest thought he needed to take over the Ohio St. game.. and by the time he settled down and let one of the best point guards we've ever had (Barkley!) take control, it was too late. Always thought Jarvis should have taken Artest out to settle him down. If that's Coach's intent with Rysheed - and I think it was - I'm all for it.
