St. John's walk-ons jump through hoops

Wonder how the talent evaluators distinguish between the 4277 and the 4276 ranked player?

Settle for another Paul Velander (neighbor of mine here in Blacksburg). Walked on at Nebraska in 2006. Got into 2 games for a TOTAL of 3 minutes as a frosh. By his senior year tho, he was getting 23 minutes a game as the teams 6th man and 5th leading scoreer (a 40% 3pt shooter and an 83% FT shooter)...

By the way, Steves last "recruited walkon" at UCLA had some success - a 6'3 SG named Janou Rubin. Coming off the bench his junior year after injuries hit the team, he was TWICE Pac 10 player of the week.

I'm told its the nature of the beast that I'll be feeling worse before I start feeling better :(

By the way - a follow up on Janou Rubin - he's been making a very nice living playing ball in the Hungarian League since leaving UCLA. Put up 19pts, 5 rebs and 5 assists last season. Their 2012 season started last weekend - he had 22 in the opener...

Steve's kids make money playing ball. An INCREDIBLY high percentage of them.

Tony Chiles says he will not announce the names of walk-ons, as not all have worked their way through the clearinghouse yet. #stjbb

Wow short bench tomorrow.

If NCAA takes it glorious time on this too I might just go to Indy and take matters into my own hands.

I was hoping we wouldnt play our scholarship players too much tomorrow. Just first and fourth quarters. I dont want to see anyone get hurt with limited players.

Haha, no worries....i though I mightve missed a memo. I think it will be good for them to get a lot of minutes since they need to build up to it anyway. Season starts soon, need to build up strength...we just have to hope for no injuries
